Terraforming, subways and bigger cities all might be coming

I found an interesting article on softpedia, apparently some users have gotten a survey...

The development team at Maxis and publisher Electronic Arts are asking the fan base of SimCity to offer their feedback on the features that they might want to see in a potential expansion for the game, which has not yet been officially announced.

Edit; someone else already posted this. sorry.

This looks promising.

I'm sure that this will be an expansion pack and it might be years away though.

If they implement these I will buy this game!

Yes if they add this it will THEN be worth it, sadly I am thinking this will be an expansion, that they will charge for. Friggin EA. should come free considering how bad this game really was at launch. Tile size alone is ridiculous.

As much as I hate saying it I would be willing to pay the price for an expansion if it includes all that in the list plus some more. Does anyone know who sent the survey out? Who it was sent to? Etc

If/when these changes happen (specifically, larger city sizes, freeways, teraforming), then that's when I will start playing again.  Until then, I'm out.

This is a very pertinent question. A significant proportion of fans will be on this site, so assuming this is real I'd expect the odd user from here to say they've received it. If that proves a negative then I'd assume this is vapourware for the moment.

I really, really hope not. Implementing that lot would go a long way to sorting several significant issues. Then, fix the agent system and we have a game!

I'm sure they will implement these. Surely they must know that this is what the community wants. They must surely be on these forums constantly, reading and observing?!?! I have criticised this game relentlessly but like I said make these changes and you will win over lost fans hearts and more importantly their hard earned cash however, continue the way you are going and well this games fan base will drop dramatically and interest will fade out. I have noticed this forum going very quite until updates etc and that goes to show sc2013 needs something major to boost it. The suggestions on the questionnaire all seem priceless. Lets hope they are out by September. Maybe the new EA GM has realised the potential cash cow this game has to offer if he wins the community over.....

Too little too late. I swear I was suggesting these same features almost 2 years ago now. I'll stick with SC4

The issue is if EA charges for it. It would be an insult to the sim city community, these things should have been there from day 1. Instead they were more concerned trying to shove the always online crap which has limited and crippled the game at launch. If they charge for this I will officially never play an EA sim city game again. I speak with my wallet.

THe community wanted these things 1-2 years before launch and EA ignore the fans.

EA drops features already in the series, then re-introduces them and acts like it's doing something.

No wonder that it consistently earned the worst company in the world status.

    That is hilarious!

They took so much out of the game. Now they are asking us what we would like put back, and on top of that we are to pay for it! They have been doing the same thing with DLC's for months now.

They are just trying to look like the good guys now, how they are asking us what we want. AS IF there aren't threads on the forums about what is missing from the game since DAY 1.

I don't know whether to be more disgusted or offended.

I think they will implement all those features we want anyway. But probably in an expansion pack, this way they could make money twice. I'll wait until these features are included in the game. Simcity 4 is still much better, Simcity 2013 is promising but it has too many limitations, if they take care of those limitations it will be awesome.

Can anyone confirm if this is legit or not? The changes sounds amazing exactly what we wanted even though they should have been in the original game! That being said I am willing to pay a expansion pack fee! No one have a inside line to maxis? Please

I don't think Maxis has confirmed any of this yet.

They want to change the tile size to a bigger tile [link], but the problem is that most normal computers can't handle this. We got to wait a bit longer I guess.

Does this sound to good to be true or what?

If this is legit then I think it is fair to say that they have been listening to the community or at least trying to figure out where they went wrong (which I don't think would have taken much work).

That said I am not as outraged as some of you seem to be. Lets not forget that they were trying to give us a multiplayer city building game. Unfortunately they have been pitching this at a community that is accustomed to playing a single player game whilst creating its own content and not paying for the privilege.

My gut is telling me that this could be a troll so I am not going to get my hopes up until I am playing offline on a huge map...

PC's can handle this fine...............you don't know what you are talking about. This game is not demanding, and users can turn down some settings on bigger maps. The always online is why this game is so limited, not local PC;s.

I agree. Most modern gaming PC's have at least i5, 4GB RAM, and NVIDIA GTX 650Ti / AMD Radeon HD 7770. Perhaps EA made SC13 for kids under 10 who usually don't have a gaming PC

I'm pretty sure that kids were their targets anyway. Considering how childish the game looks with its DLC's as well.

Like one of the posters above mentioned if this gets implemented it shows they have been listening and they will save the game. However I am getting more pessimistic with each hour.

The problem is that with a change of the map size there is a lot more simulation to calculate. Since the Glassbox engine simulates every citizen separately this could mean that the requirements of the game changes a lot. And even if most modern computers have i5 processors, the game should also be accessible for people with dual cores and i3 (the i3 is also a very common processor for most modern computers).

And I agree, the online mode is a serious problem and should absolutely be optional but I think it is a combination of always online and local pc's. For EA it is most profitable to make the game accessible to as many computers as possible without lowering graphics (since that is a big selling point for most people). The main reason to develop this game for EA is to earn money, that's part of the reason why they have such standards for compatibility. System requirements are the things people look at first before even buying the game so if you lower those requirements you have more potential customers.

Don't get me wrong, I really think they should implement bigger maps and my computer has also the requirements to run those bigger maps. I just think that people with older computers should also be able to run the game properly.

Chances are the expansion will be targeted towards SimCity folks like us and not the general consumer as I doubt the general consumer will buy the expansion pack only die-hard fans will, therefor they are probably listening to you guys.

If that were true then conga lines would be impossible. If every sims was simulated separately then each school truck, bus or dump truck would find his own way around the city and go where it's most needed. Instead they all do the exact same thing and only break apart because of other traffic that gets in the way of the conga line.

The engine simulates each GROUP/TYPE. That is why every vehicle looks like it's being driven by monkeys.
