So, did you pre-order the game and are still enjoying it? Do you regret your purchase or do you think you've more than gotten your moneys worth? Do you have every DLC available? Personally, my only regret is not buying a physical copy and going the digital deluxe route. Even though the game is still bugged as hell, I would gladly buy it today had I not pre-ordered it. Your thoughts?

I pre ordered and still play.  I play less then when I did when it first came out (or first became playable i should say), but that is normal with any game.

Other then the launch day issues, I have no problem with having downloaded through Orgin.  I dont like the always online thing, but Oragin does not need to mean always online so no beef with Orgin specificly, I buy everythign through digital download these days, I cant remember when I last bought a physical copy of something.

The only DLC I have is the Amusement Park set which I have really enjoyed.  I have the Heros and Villians thing that came with the download, but have basicly ignored it after my first week of playing, its really just annoying.  I do use the Leaf, Plumbob and Launch Park freebies quite often.  I would buy the city sets if they didnt require plopping a building to activate them, I would rather something you set when you claim the city.  I will grab the Airship thing down the road when its on sale or sold as part of a transportation bundle, on its own its not enough for the money.

I wasnt as upset or dissapoint as most were with the game.  I mean, I knew ahead of time that tile size was small and always online was going to be there, I bought the game know that, even if its not how I wished it was, so I cant call that dissapointment.  The bugs did make some of the first weeks pretty frustrating, but i kept playing and still had fun.

As for paying $50 for it, yes, I would do it again, the number of hours I have gotten out of the game and knowing that I will continue to get many more hours out of it, its a huge bang for my buck.  Few games have the long term replayability that a SimCity game has.  Sure SimCity isnt as flexable as SC4, but with DLC meaning continued revenue for Maxis/EA it also means continued development and support, the game will only improve with time and I look forward to it.  Worth every penny I spent on it, hands down.

I preordered off Amazon, used a credit I had and also got a lower price due to it being on sale before launch so I only paid around $25 for the game total. (Limited Edition Hard Copy

That makes the DLC downloads a little more affordable. I am an advanced gamer but also have a life and wont let a few flaws ruin my experience. So far I have purchased the city and amusement park sets and downloaded the Nissan and Crest DLC. I think I will wait just a bit to get the Airships but it is tempting.

I do feel like they rushed the launch but they are also continuing to support the game through patches and such.

I enjoy this game. It is a shame others are giving up so easily.

I completely agree with you about the city sets. I wish there were simply a theme option and you could start out your city in one of the themes, and you make some other interesting points. Thanks for your input!

Yeah I also think they rushed the launch by at least a month or so, and they didn't do any beta testing. They did marketing demo releases, not beta tests.. I didn't know Amazon did a pre-sale sale! I wish I had taken advantage of that, but at the same time, I'm not complaining. It's worth the money.

i'm happy with my purchase I quite like the game I bought the theme park DLC but haven't used it yet I will buy airship set. I would like more DLC including bigger maps and new specializations such as agriculture, manufacturing, finance etc. I think they did a good job.

Okay I'll pass that along to the devs.

    :D

Just kidding. I can't really agree with you on the agriculture though. I know it's been said many times, but agriculture just seems like it wouldn't be able to provide as much profit per square foot as the other specializations. Maybe I'm not seeing the whole picture, but that's my thought on the matter.

This game is lacklustre and the novelty fades after about two or three weeks. Contiguous city tiles, larger map sizes and terraforming would have kept me playing for far longer...

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

    This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

It does not always have to be about profit per square foot, its about the fun of building the city.  I build coal cities, even though it would be more profitable to build an electronics city, I do it to do something different, I play with all the specialization types, if every city built PCs and TVs the game would indeed get boring.  An agricultural city wouldnt rake in the cash like a high tech city, but it should would be a ton of fun to play.  Granted small city tiles limit how a proper rural agricultural "city" would look, I think they can make it work and I am sure we will see a DLC in the future, but hopefully a big one, not just a ploppable farm, but an entire specialization with lots of building types, different crops, animals and processing facilities.  New commercial buildings to fit the theme, farm supply, vegetable stands, etc..  Sounds awesome to me.

The cities do need to be larger... But once you get past that and become addicted, there's no turning it off, for me anyway. I can never get my cities to behave the way I expect them to, and that in itself is actually a very appealing aspect.

I can see your point, but while the game does need to be fun, it also needs to make you feel like your being productive. Many people wouldn't be turned on to the idea of using large areas of land for unprofitable reasons no matter how fun it may be, because that won't help you "win" this game. If agriculture had more uses such as health benefits, it would make more sense. But I can't see a field of corn the size of two large industrial buildings making as much in taxes. Sure you can add more stuff like veggie stands, but all your left with is less space and not enough income. IMO of course.

True, but by the design of the game that they gave us, in most cases we are forced to utilize other city plots to achieve cities with different specializations. I personally think it would be utterly ridiculous to have larger plots. If we are going that route, dont ask for just larger map sizes but the region as a whole! Allow us to see resources (layers) when choosing a region and then allow us to plop where we please, as close or away from the highway connection. Maybe have a general "radius" where building can be plopped in relation to others to prevent people claiming a huge swath of land.....but all that s for another thread.

To your comment though, adding Agriculture would merely involve someone claiming a new plot of land and making a small town with agricultural output for the whole region. It is speculative right now and I am further de-railing the topic.

Overall. I am still pleased with the game. It s one of the only PC games I play.

Pre-ordered because I was really in a mood to play a city builder. SimCity delivered on the promise of being a TOWN builder, I went past that. It works in general, not specifically, never meant for hardcore gamers like myself. So I just try to get the most out of it. Got 400 hours out of 50$ or so, a good deal in my book.

No DLC's no thx. Not worth an extra penny.

Didn't expect a brilliant game from EA, not even a fully working one thx to their now standing reputation. I probably still play only because I didn't expect too much from it to begin with.

As for the future of it, I see myself doing a few more vids about some things I haven't covered and then "shelving it" to be played from time to time to scratch my building ich.

I pre-ordered at the last minute, literally a day or two before release, because, hey, I was excited for a new Simcity, and I figured I could get past the Always Online and the Small Maps. Of course, I was faced with the initial wash of problems of not even being able to connect to the game for a few days, which infuriated me to no end. Once I was able to play, I  chugged through it, having some fun with the game, until something started making the experience frustrating, most likely traffic or neighbor connection issues. The most fun was one city where there was little traffic at the single border connection. I played for about a month or two after release.

Then...well, things just became boring. I've barely touched the game since. I haven't bought the DLC for the game beyond what came with the Digital Deluxe edition, and I don't see myself buying them ever. The game has basically told me to never, ever pre-order an EA game ever again, and the Maxis brand does not stand for quality like it used to.

I don't really know what I was expecting.  I'm disappointed in how poorly things run within the city and with all of the very basic things (well basic in my opinion) they left out.  Overpasses, subway or above street rail, traffic direction signs or something to help with traffic and the size of the cities.  It just seems there were a lot of things left out that are very important to make the a game a long standing player.  Also the DLC, I've purchased all of them and feel terrible about myself for dropping 100$ on a game that I play maybe once a week, then get annoyed and go back to another game.

I still think it could be a good game. But as for now I don't think it's worth my time. I still do play for about an hour a week so I haven't given up hope yet.

Since my vanishing trade, garbage etc trucks from patch 4 coupled to a handy disaster every time I make progress I've become very frustrated with it, so I've given up for a while. I'll fire it up again in a couple of patches and see how it feels then. Assuming there will be more patches, and EA hasn't killed the server. For the moment, the spark has gone for me.

There's very little variety in playing solo, and your town fills up fast.  When playing in a region with other people folks leave and don't come back, essentially making you play solo.

So I've become bored.  I don't want DLC's, I want bigger, more varied areas to work in.  The game REALLY needs to work on the "endgame" to make it more interesting for a mayor once they've filled their area.

I've preordered it for $40 on Amazon and also got the ME3 freebie so overall not a horrible deal, but I put down the game after a week. Tried it for a couple days after the 3rd patch and it's been again offline ever since. Didn't purchase any DLC's, not that I'm tightfisted.. for example I already shelled out $300 for Star Citizen - a game that doesn't even exist :D

Simcity is too much of a let down for me to spend any extra dime. I'm not part of the Simcity 4ever! crowd, but the state the current game is in doesn't deserve my $ support. It's a shame because I've been playing Simcity games for over 20 years now. I literally grew up with Simcity and Civilization, henceI want to throw money at these series so that my kids grow up with them too. Civ 5 has really pulled it together with patches and expansions, if Simcity does the same I'll resume my support.

Yeah, $10 for a DLC is steep.  It's a fairly large percentage of what you paid for the product at launch (was it 50 or 60 bucks?).

I am REALLY pleased with how they cleaned up Civ 5.  EA should take notes.  (Looking forward to Brave New World!)

There is ALOT missing from this game. And for some reason I feel that maxis won't be working on everything that should be added. So they need to add official mod support so we can play the game our own way. Not with farout DLC like airships that make absolutely no sense.

Leptooners, great job crafting the poll -- it's difficult to evaluate the love/hate relationship with Sim City right now in a binary yes/no question, so kudos on well-worded Q&A's.

I definitely stopped playing once the initial excitement and joy wore off from the bugs, the crashing, the connectivity, ... However, I am slowly, with every subsequent patch, enjoying the game a bit more and returning more often. In fact, just yesterday, I was so happy to have played an entire session with only 2 crashes!

But that's the problem, right there: I should not be glad this game -- three months past launch -- is only now just meeting my bare expectations.  What's more, it pains me that Maxis is whoring out development time on at-cost DLC, when there is so much still to be done with this game.  Just look at the airships DLC that is 1/6th of the original game cost... what an insult.

I love(d) this franchise.  After waiting so long after SC4, it's really tough to hate the game, but at the same time not possible to love the game in its current state, too.  SC had so much potential, and in many ways, still does, but it was squandered away by an unfinished product.  The only word I have for it is tragedy.

You need an option on the last question for those of us that bought the physical version only.  I had to put something so I ticked number three but I only bought one copy.

Contiguous city tiles, larger map sizes and terraforming would have kept me playing for far longer...

Pretty much this.  I enjoy the game a lot.  Feel I got my moneys worth but I've got to the stage where I want to be more creative and the tools are just not there.

I'm not interested in the DLC.  The amusement park is probably the most interesting looking one but not at that price.

The game is not what I expected but I'm finding the challenge of figuring out ways to work around the agent issues (amongst other things) is keeping me interested in the game.  Ironic?  Sure, but works for me.  I agree that the game has an awful lot of issues with it to really be considered release worthy.  For a product that was designed based on a vision dependant on cooperative play, it's an obvious concern that they haven't worked out the regional functionality yet.  It's just not enough of a tragedy to shake my fist in the air and express outrage, you know?  To be fair I never ran into the connectivity and roll back issues that so many others have.  Must be frustrating.  And I can certainly understand why so many people who have played previous SimCity titles over the years are disappointed with both the technical issues and the direction the intended gameplay has taken.  I've bought some real clunkers in the past so I feel their pain.  Eventually I'll get bored and hopefully by then the updates will have fixed the problems.  As far as DLC goes, I know two seperate teams are working on different components.  A DLC team and a bug fix/update team.  So I understand why DLC is being released even if there are still issues to be handled with the original product.  But I won't purchase any until I see some stability, if ever.  Good news?  By that time perhaps some of it will be bundled together with some new features a la Rush Hour.  One can only hope.
