The State of Simcity - EA/Maxis speaks
CaribbeanSail replied to baertooth's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
What kept me playing was confidence that bigger cities would be coming eventually, since Maxis did seem to be listeneing and addressing concerns and that is the number 1 concern by far. Major disappointment to hear this official news that it simply will not be happening. I think I may finally pack up the game, offline mode may get me coming back occasionally, but I cannot see investing in any more expansions or DLC knowing that the map size will never increase. Looking forward to SimCity 6, where at least I am sure they will not make the map size mistake again. Perhaps somewhere around 2020. I did get a lot of play time out of SimCity and do not feel I wasted my money, so I wont gripe too much. -
New Red Cross DLC-for-charity
CaribbeanSail replied to reReticulated Spline's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I am eager to see more DLC, but I do not really see this as useful, disasters are not hard to recover from (bulldoze a few buildings). I really want to like this, but I cant see its usefulness, if it did something in non disaster times I might go for it, especially since one of my top feature requests is the ability to turn off disasters. -
Odd bit about the water park...
CaribbeanSail replied to Rufus Honker IV's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Its winter time and they are ice skating, hence the no swimsuits and people standing on water (its actually ice!). -
New Expansion Pack in November - Cities of Tomorrow
CaribbeanSail replied to macscfan's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I think it was leaked on the Brazil Simcity Facebook page first. Anyway, looks pretty cool to me. -
Electronics city is the easiest to make large amounts of money with so generally it can be a good idea to start with them (to help fund startup of the other cities).

I'm a Quadriplegic gamer & need help
CaribbeanSail replied to joey6957's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Its already on reddit and someone there already came up with a macro solution for him! Pretty cool, got put on BestOf reddit. Always nice to see good people willing to dedicate a few hours of their life to help someone else out. -
Opinions on update 7
CaribbeanSail replied to Catchin22's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Update 7 is certainly a huge improvement, I cannot wait to see what the next updates bring, as they are giving no indication that at any point soon they are going to say "the game is done" and walk away. -
The "Wish-This-DLC-Would-Come-Out" Topic
CaribbeanSail replied to GoingNumb's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I would like to see ordinances return, it was nice to be able to tweak the city a bit with them. Could even bring them up to modern times, a Legalize Marijuana ordinance, which reduces violent crime but increases the number of people late for work -
Broken Acheivements?
CaribbeanSail replied to CaribbeanSail's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I dont mind that, since the servers stabilized I have stuck to a single server. This also lets you, if you want to try to redo acheivements, jump on another server, say if you wanted to race with a buddy on "fastest to get X achievement". Or wanted to see if you can start fresh and get every single achievement in a single region. -
Broken Acheivements?
CaribbeanSail replied to CaribbeanSail's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Ah okay, but you cant plop the oil and metals HQs unless there is oil and ore or coal on the same map, guess I just need to find the rare maps that have both. I thought more about the Good Credit one after I posted, perhaps it doesnt work if you repay the bonds in full, only if you repay them over their full loan period? I always pay them off early, which may mean I am not getting credit for it. I will try letting 1m worth pay off over their full period and see what happens (thats gonna take awhile). -
There are two acheivements that i should have, but dont, wondering if they are bugged/broken, has anyone got them? You Mean Buisness: plop each of the specialization HQs. I have certainly done that, several times over. Certainly it cant mean in the same city, is that even possible? (never noticed if tiles exist that contain coal ore AND oil). Good Credit: Pay of 1,000,000 in bond debt. I have certainly done this, I even just now took out 2m in bonds repaying them, of course the max you can have at one time is 300k, so I assume it does not mean "pay off 1m all at once".

Does this game use a lot of bandwidth per hour
CaribbeanSail replied to 19citypug's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Depends on the laptop, my 2 year old laptop plays it just fine with graphics maxed out (though I generally play with them on medium and screenshot with max). Granted this is an i7 laptop with NvIdia video card, but even 2 years old it plays SimCity just fine and without heating issues (some other games do cause overheat issues). As for the internet, I play on 3G with a 5gig limit per month and it does not make enough of a dent in my limit for me to worry excessively about it. -

I launched my biggest city, 620K population RCI city, no specialization, to check out the traffic tweaks. Overall, I would say, at best, only a minor improvement in traffic. But in such a dense city, it may have been an unfair test, it would likely have traffic jams no matter how smart the agents got. Service vehicle clumping there is a very definately improvement. Garbage trucks there was no clumping at all. I saw a little clumping with busses, but that may be because they are actually being smart and sending 2 busses to a bus stop that has so many people waiting that it needs 2 busses. I was very happy to see Houses of Worship was a freebie DLC, I havnt placed any of them yet (the 620K city is "finished"). I havnt played with the bridge or tunnel tool yet either, I will start a new city now to try those out. -
On sale for $4.49, still seems to much to me (this DLC belongs in a transportation expansion, or should be $1.99), but I am slightly tempted. I am sure though that there are people who will want to grab it and may not notice it is on sale, so posting this FYI. Edit: actually looks like all DLC is 50% off, I only noticed the Airship one since its the one I dont have. Amusement Park is only $4.99 now, and I think that is very worth the price to grab if you do not already have it.
