Comdude,

WOW! All those last pics, it's really like we're on a plane looking out! Just UNBELIEVABLE! That cycle dog mod is really paying of here! 29.gif
And NorthBeach state forest, awesome! 44.gif

Great work man!

PS Sorry for not posting regularly, that damn RLS! But I follow as frequently as I can. (I didn't think that my CJ would take so much of my time, and for that I can more appreciate how much time and effort you put into yours)

Regards.

Darmok: Thanks for the compliments. I'm glad you like the changes with CD's mods, it took it a while to get everything right. 10.gif

Don't worry about not posting regularly. I know how it feels. No problem if you can't get around to posting here except once in a while. 2.gif

King: Thanks for the compliments dude, I don't care if you started the page. 3.gif

gurrgkud: I'll try to fit it in before the hurricane hits.

RFH: Not everyone will have to evacuate there, though. Most will head west on I-31.

    To All:

Things are starting to get ominous in Ocean Point.

The hurricane's forecasted direct hit is less then 24 hours away. The huge storm looms to the southeast over the ocean as crouds flock to the beach to see the storm's distant clouds on the horizon as they prepare to evacuate the island.

By now, an estimated 73% of the residents of the island have either already evacuated the island, or are in the process of evacuating. Most of the region's population is located on the island, including the cities of Ocean Point and North Beach.

Some of the hurricane's outer cloud bands have started to slowly work their way into the region, as the brisk wind off the ocean picks up and is the only thing to be heard in the eerie quiet of the streets of downtown Ocean Point.

Some of the city's top officials were on hand to speak.

The Ocean Point Disaster Preparation Comittee had this to say:

We're currently working on evacuating as many sims on the island as possible. The hurricane is inevitable, and the sims know it. Most of the buildings have had their windows boarded, loose objects stored away and sliding glass doors covered up. We've made sure that the buildings are safe and will not be in danger of collapse during the storm.

The Pinewood County Transportation Department released this statement about the evacuation traffic:

At the time, we're looking at the highest trafic volumes we've ever seen crossing our bridges to the mainland. The I-268 Inlet Bridge has five hour traffic delays, the I-31 Marshland Bay Memorial Bridge has three hour delays, and the Route 82 and I-268 bridges over the northern section of Marshland Bay are moving very slowly as well. This transportation system just isn't made to handle thousands of cars on the same road at one given time.

The National Weather Service made a statement on the hurricane:

This will be the worst weather situation that Ocean Point has ever seen. We're currently looking at a near direct hit by a Category 4-5 Hurricane, which looks like it will make landfall about 30 miles or so south of Ocean Point. This would put Ocean Point on the worse, northern side of the storm.

Hurricane Hunter Aircraft taking off from Ocean Point Municipal Airport flew over the region, taking these pictures of the outer cloud bands of the hurricane:

Or, Make a horrible Flood with the Rain Mod!! 44.gif

    You're on to something. 2.gif

This will be a realistic looking update series. Everything from the flooding to the wind damage. I've got it all covered.

However, I won't be able to rebuild from this as I did with the Marshland tornado. Too much work.

In other words, Exit Without Saving. 3.gif

Those pics with the fog are really good...although I'm worried for the future of Ocean Point, I'm sure that only good will come out of this, for the region and the CJ!

Yeah, Thats what I was thinking! Use the Rain Mod, take a couple of snapshots, exit without saving, and come back to the city and say the hurricane is over, the city is also rebuilt... 4.gif Oh crap...I just spilled it all didn't I?

    hey comdude,

I am really looking forward to seeing more of the screenshots of this horrible diaster, and I am loving the story you have put together in the last couple updates. And, KOSC, lol, it's okay we are wanting to see some more pictures, 3.gif.

RHF: Thanks. Don't be worried about the future, remember who's the mayor here. 2.gif

King: Well, it's a little more complicated then that. You have to have the flooding in realistic places. And plus, it will be very hard to make realistic wind damage. You can guess how I do that, but I'm not spilling anything.

DA: Thanks for the compliments. It's nice to see that someone is reading my pictureless updates. 10.gif

To All: The hurricane shouldn't make landfall for another 12 hours or so, but it is close enough to Ocean Point to be causing strong winds and some minor to moderate coastal flooding already.

Really great, but the pictures are much to bright. I suggest you edit them slightly to make them darker and more gray. If you think you are really good with photoshop, you could even try adding some strong rain into the pics. They are just a little to bright and sunny to be a hurricane.

TMS: Thanks for the compliments. Great to see that you like the weather effects; the hurricane update series is no easy thing to do. And thanks for putting a link to this CJ in your sig, that's really cool. 10.gif

RHF: Thanks. You think those areas are nice? Wait until you see what happens to the multi-millionaires in East Point! 3.gif

Alkaola: Thanks for the compliments. Those clouds are't the hurricane clouds, they are just some bands of clouds rotating around the extreme outer reaches of the storm about 200 miles from its center.

    sloppet: Thanks for the compliments.

MayorTim: Thanks for the compliments. Like I said before, those aren't the real hurricane clouds; just some stray bands of clouds rotating around the storm.

Using photoshop is a great idea. However, the problem is that I am horrible at it. I use MSPaint to edit the pictures in this CJ. However, I can play around with the brightness values I guess. Thanks for the suggestion. 10.gif

Z: Thanks for the compliments. Most of the city should make it out all right, but not all of it. 11.gif

To All: The hurricane is expected to make landfall between 10 PM tonight and 12 AM tomorrow.

More pictures showing the advancing storm surge on the region will come later.

I've been playing around with the brightness, and have come up with this.

I simply went into Photoshop Elements and lowered the brightness of both pictures to -34.

These pictures are of the rising Marshland Bay is it begins to overtake low-lying sections of Bay Cove (On the island).

At the time, out of the 22,000 residents of Bay Cove, only an estimated 2,420 of the residents remain, or around 11%. The rest followed the evacuation orders and fled for the mainland.

The bay is just starting to creep up, at a few feet above the normal high tide level. Here is an area along Route 71 along the bay which is very prone to flooding:

    baycovecomdry8te.jpg

This neighborhood in northwestern Bay Cove may become the worst hit area in the town by the storm surge. This is a very nice area, but its elevation is only several feet above sea level in most places. A 10-15 foot storm surge, which is what the meteorologists are predicting at the time, would wipe out this neighborhood.

    RHF: Thanks for the compliments.

MayorTim: Thanks for the compliments, and for the great idea to darken the pictures! That really was a smart idea. It's going to make this update series so much better! I can't thank you enough for coming up with that idea. 10.gif

dhoppeii: Thanks for the compliments. In the areas of Bay Cove that I showed in the last update, cops were escorting the residents out last evening. They couldn't let some ignorant sims stay that didn't know how powerful this hurricane is going to be. However, there is a rumor that a few families are staying put there, in their houses by the bay. We can only hope that they will survive the storm, but at this point, it doesn't look very good for them.

To All: More updates should come tonight as the hurricane approaches Ocean Point. Expect to see some pictures of the cities, Ocean Point and North Beach, during their struggle with the hurricane.

    The coastal flooding continues.

Here's a little lesson about what coastal flooding is before the next update begins.

The overflowing back bay spills onto the surrounding land, creating a coastal flood. And that is coastal flooding in a nutshell.

Storm surge is more or less another name for coastal flooding, usually associated with tropical storms and hurricanes.

The landfall will be the most intense part of the storm.

For now, Marshland Bay and the tidal Pinewood River are filling up with water from the coastal flooding effect that I explained earlier in this post.

Here is Pinewood Banks, along Route 99 in the eastern part of town.

    rte998pr.jpg

South Inlet may feel the brunt of the storm. This is what it currently looks like on South Bay, with some very low-lying land that has already taken on a lot of water.

Noooo...I really like South Inlet, I'll be really sad to see everyone gone from there! Although I won't be as sympathetic towards the rich snobs in East Bay...

RHF: South Inlet being destroyed would be really bad. But it's not like anything is going to leave the town. Sure, a few houses will be gone/have to be torn down after the storm, but it's not like these places will be wiped out.

King: Downtown Ocean Point may not flood much, because it's far enough from the bay. You'll see.

LordoftheWise: Thanks for the compliments. 10.gif

To All: No more for tonight. Expect some more updates on the hurricane for tomorrow.
