I agree that the pines definitely add now in giving this region a distinct Jersey feel. I've been through the Pine Barrens several times and I can say that you've really managed to create a similar feel, especially when I look at that overview shot of Pinewood.

oroen: Thanks for the compliments. I couldn't be happier about the pines, now that someone else who has been to the Pine Barrens has given the confirmation that what I have done here is realistic. 10.gif

To All: As I said before, an update is scheduled for tonight. It will include more pictures of what I have done (And what I am currently doing) with the Shore Pines in the region. CycleDogg, I offer many, many thanks to you for your creations. They have benefited all of us so much in our overall SC4 experience.

I may or may not integrate the Columbus terrain to this region. Since it is for a place in Montana, I'm not sure if it will be realistic for a New Jersey-based region, but it looks so awesome that I might just have to use it. Then again, it may be more realistic for this region then the default Maxis terrain anyways, even if the beaches have a different color and such.

How could I miss the update, 34.gif. I liked the pine trees and that looks good the mixture you have between regular trees and normal ones, great idea. Another nice Table of contents, btw.

DA: Thanks for the compliments. It's great to see that everyone likes the trees, I'm putting a lot of work into them and couldn't be happier with the result.

To All: Sorry, I can't get the update in tonight. However, I should get it tomorrow. It will show more pictures of the new Shore Pine trees in the region.

jacqulina: Don't worry, the update should come this afternoon.

    To All: EDIT: Nevermind that.

The next update should come this afternoon, with more pictures of the new trees.

No comments? All I can say is, the less comments, the less updates. No comments, then no updates. It's as simple as that. 14.gif

Anyways, the update that I have planned will show more towns with their transition to the Shore Pines. 10.gif

    Great updates!

About the comments. I think the reason you aren't getting many comments is that you set dates for updates, then push them back, then push them back again, ect. I can understand that you have a very busy life, but the last update was one small region pic, and it was 2 days ago. People don't usually comment when there is nothing new to comment on. From a viewers point of view, no comments, no updates turns into no updates, no comments.

I do like the new trees though. Good work, and I can't wait for the next update.

    sloppet: Thanks for the compliments.

MayorTim: Thanks for the compliments, and the great input about the comments. I definately agree that viewers of this CJ won't comment if there are no new updates since they last commented (I don't expect them to), but I'm mainly talking about the lurkers. The ones who view this CJ, and get a lot out of it, but don't reply. The ones who use things from this CJ in their own CJs, but don't comment here. Nobody needs to ask permission to use something that I use in this CJ. They just need to reply, so I can acknowledge that they care enough to reply. But yes, you're definately right about the updates. I'll stop making unreal expectations for updates in this CJ. 10.gif

To All: I do expect to release a small update by tomorrow. There should be something more significant by this weekend. I've been doing a lot of work with the trees. Getting the perfect balance of Maxis oaks and CycleDogg's Shore Pines is a major job, and I'm almost done with it. What I have been doing (Since all of the tiles were basically filled with the Maxis oaks already, at least where there wasn't development) is demolishing the right amount of the Maxis oaks so that there is a realistic and good looking balance of the two types of trees.

Date: 5/3/2005 10:18:22 PM Author: comdude21 ...... If anyone (Other than me, of course) is familiar with the Pine Barrens or a similar real-world region (Such as Long Island's Pine Barrens, which are similar to New Jersey's), I'd like to know how I'm doing with these trees as far as realism is concerned. Thanks.

While this part of New Jersey isn't officially classified pine barrens, there are some pine groves of about an acre or so in size . Can we see an extreme closeup of these Shore Pines ?

JJ: Sure, no problem. Actually, I had already started making the little update I'm going release now so it worked out, although the close-up of the pines was taken at night. Still, I should have day pictures tomorrow. 10.gif

To All: Here is an update showing the new Shore Pines in the city of North Beach. There was quite an amazing transition there.

    _______________________________________________________________________

A NEW LOOK AT NORTH BEACH

Getting the Shore Pines has changed the region a lot, for the better, of coures. In North Beach, the change has been big.

For example, here is North Beach, including downtown and much of North Beach State Forest, with the new trees:

    nbday6rm.jpg

Here is the same area at night, which I believe is the first night picture in this CJ:

    nbnight0hm.jpg

North Beach Country Club and vicinity along North Beach State Forest:

    golfcoursearea4bm.jpg

Here is the middle of the state forest at night. So close to the town, yet seemingly so far away, this place could be a continent away from downtown North Beach, but it's only a mile or two there:

    King: Thanks for the compliments.

Mexicanboy: Thanks for the compliments, those forests take a long time to make.

jacqulina: Thanks for the compliments, and if you like the night pictures, I can make more in the next update. 10.gif

To All: There are still some areas to show first, but after that, I will start the region's expansion to the south.

Wow, the mix of oaks and pines looks great in North Beach! I love the area near the golf course, plenty of suburbia, which I gobble up. Keep up the great work.

Looks great, I like the Burnt trees, and yes wild fires are very important in keeping a forest growing healthy. I also like the state park, great work.... Keep it up!

RHF: Thanks for the compliments. Yeah, getting the trees right in North Beach (I had to manuever around all of the stuff in the city of course) took a long time. So, it's great to hear compliments about it. 10.gif

Afro: Thanks for the compliments. I'm really glad you like the State Park, because I spent a lot of time on that to get it right.

    sloppet: Thanks.

palmgurl: Thanks. There aren't any palm trees in that area, but maybe a few will appear along the immediate coast in the region's upcoming southern expansion. Maybe I will have to stop talking about having this CJ be based in New Jersey. 2.gif

To All: Something in the way of more pictures should come today to this CJ. I'm not sure if it will be a true update like last night, or something smaller if I don't have as much time.

And BTW, palmgurl's question about palm trees is giving me ideas. Maybe I will indeed put in some palm trees in the southern expansion of the region. But then, this CJ would be based in Florida. Still, I've been to Florida a bunch of times driving through it, and there are lots of pines and oaks in portions of the state along with palms. But still, being that I'm from New Jersey and like the NJ feel to this region, I doubt that I'll want to change the place where this CJ is based.

gurrgkud: Thanks for the words on the CJ. Although get rid of your sigpic, it's very offending to many of us, (Including myself) and doesn't belong on Simtropolis.

EDIT: Ok, so it is for a CJ I see. But still, it's almost over the line.

dhoppeii: Thanks for the compliments. I really like hearing compliments about the State Forest, because it took a lot of work, and I'll post some more night pictures too. I wonder why I hadn't posted any yet before this. 10.gif

Mikeaut: Thanks for the compliments, and I can't beleive it either, this is going to be 30 pages! Only three CJs have gotten there so far: Nexis of Genesis, Sculpting Columbia River, and Edmonton. That's pretty good company, if you ask me. 3.gif

To All: Some more pictures should come tomorrow. I've decided to use CycleDogg's terrain mod along with the trees. It looks great, and I think it's very realistic for any region, whether it be Montana or New Jersey.

jacqulina: Good, because I like the night pictures too. 3.gif

To All: Expect some sort of an update today. Maybe not a big one, but I should have something. The re-foresting of the region and coverting it to the CycleDogg terrain mod is complete. I plan on going over most, if not all of the towns in the region, sprucing them up and making them nicer, then giving updates on these towns in the coming days. The main reason for this is that these towns haven't been seen in a while in this CJ, and they haven't been seen with the new tree and terrain mod either. So, I will start to work on that soon. 10.gif
