Krasnovod

Population: 69000

Location: South-east Rodina, where river Jenilenska meets the Black Sea.

Past: 

During mediaeval times there were originally two towns, Samokovo on the western side of river Jenilenska, and Pansk on the eastern side. Samokovo was completely destroyed during the Ottoman invasion in the early 16th century, while some parts of Pansk were spared.  

After the 5th Russo-Ottoman war (1768-1774) Rodina was brought within the orbit of the Russian Empire, and czarina Catherine II in need of a strategic port by the Black Sea decided to build a city on the ruins of Samokovo. The new city was named Krasnovod (Red water) in memory of all the blood spilled during the war against the Ottomans. About a century later Pansk was incorporated into Krasnovod.

Present:

Krasnovod is nowadays one of the most important industrial towns of Rodina, though also heavily polluted. The port is mainly used for Rodinian grain export, but is also largely trafficked by Russian and Japanese contaner ships.

Hammer and Sickle Monument, a symbol for unity between the western (industrial) and eastern (agricultural) parts of Rodina, divided by the river Jenilenska.

Krasnovod Port

Coal power plant

Ugolelektrostantsija Krasno-1, one of the world's largest coal plants. Built in the late 80's it produces electricity for the entire city and exports to the surrounding areas as well as Russia.

The area near the plant is heavily polluted, and experts have issued several health warnings during the last decade... 

Waste-to-energy plant

Misorelektrostantsija Krasno-2, taking care of the city's garbage, the plant produces enough energy to provide the citizens of Krasnovod with heat during the cold winter...
