Did a boat tour of Belfast Harbour on Sunday, was a great day and weather was fantastic.

Oh it's massive, 855 acres alone is used for port operations. The other 1095 acres are a mix of nature reserves and residential/commercial operations. 

 

Yeah the building in the second image is Titanic Belfast, it's a visitor attraction and museum and is located at the head of the slipways where Titanic and her sisters were built. Belfast's official memorial is in the grounds of Belfast City Hall.

I did indeed use a wide angle lens.  It wasn't terribly wide - an 18mm on an APS-C sized imaging sensor with a 1.5x crop factor made it a 27mm equivalent in "full frame" (35mm film).

 

As for the depth of field, I did have to manually focus somewhere in between the foreground objects and the cumulonimbus in the background in order to make everything appear in acceptably sharp focus.  Such a plane of focus is called the Hyperfocal Distance, and it is quite popular among landscape photographers who aren't using cameras with tilt-shift functions, such as large format view cameras.

@Nonny: I have been studying/practicing for quite some time.  I wouldn't mind becoming a professional, although I do have some reservations about turning my passion into work, if you know what I mean.

@Jazzmaster:  Once upon a time in my checkered career, I was a pretty avid amateur photographer.  I joined PSA and took part in some salon circuits, but this was a hobby and not my profession.  It is always good to have some avocation that you can practice for satisfaction on this scale.  I couldn't see myself doing it for a living.  After I got involved in other activities, photography sort of faded.  I think what killed it for me was that I was too busy to keep up with the digital technology when it came in.  I was really excited when I made my first dye-transfer print.

Awesome.  I'm actually experimenting with C-41 color negative film at the moment, I bought 5 rolls of Kodak Ektar and 5 of Portra.  I'll probably have to take it to a lab to be developed, but I'm still interested to see how they turned out!

In the bad old days, colour negative films were just over the horizon.  My print was made from a Kodachrome slide.  Lots of splashing around and very careful temperature controls to say the least.  Developing my first roll of agfacolour film was a big thrill when, after the reversal exposure and the final developing, it turned out a nice set of slides.  I think I was about 20 years old at the time, so that would be more than 50 years ago.  Now, it is getting hard to buy film at all.
