I've been hobbying in photography for a few years now, but only recently did I start to take it more seriously (about 10 months ago, I bought my first Digital SLR).  I figured I can't be the only person interested in photography on this website, and it'd be nice to share a discussion with anybody who's also interested on here as well.

This thread is open to any camera discussion including photos, photographers, critiques etc (just please no Canon vs. Nikon vs. Sony vs. Pentax vs. Olympus etc. type stuff).

I'll start off with some photos that I consider to be my best so far.  I'm interested in quite a bit of things so that's what I do: photograph what interests me.  I don't have too much of a "style" just yet but I'd like to some day.

These first few were taken in Florida, mainly Lakeland.  All on different dates.

(This was taken in Largo FL)

(This one is from Clearwater by the Gulf of Mexico)

And, these last few are from Chicago:

Ooooh, nice photos  :)

I haven't taken many, but I really enjoy photographing LEGO. My favourite of my pictures so far is this one.

Also, my new profile picture was photographed and edited by me to look like The Clash's infamous album art for London Calling.

You can view more of my pictures on my website. I haven't updated it in a long time, but I hope I can get around to an update in the near future.

Very good.  In my younger days I belonged to the PSA, and was a salon exhibitor as well as a participant in Salon Circuits.  In those days, colour photography was just coming in, and a lot of the work was in black and white.  I've been watching the evolution of photography for over 60 years now, and have not actively participated in quite a while.  This summer I was on the east coast and I've been using some of the best shots I got as desktops.

Sorry, but my web space is all taken up, or I would add a few shots here.

Nice to hear!  I actually shoot in black and white, and on a film camera too.  It's for photography class, but I really do enjoy it.  The applications for color and b&w photography are so different I think I could spend a lifetime with both and that makes me feel very good to be immersed in this hobby.

@Kabinator: interesting choice for macro shots, my only suggestion is to do something about the lens flare in the first picture, unless of course you wanted that.

@EB: great bird shots as expected from you. :)

Lens flare was deliberate. May not be everyone's cup of tea, but I felt it fit after I had brightened the original image.

Some more photos that I snapped the other day. No editing on the Violins one (other than the watermark), however the one with the guitar I edited the light to make it feel more natural, and have less of an orange tint to the picture. All instruments are customs from BrickForge, in case you are wondering, and are minifig compatible. The shield and axe are part of a collectable minifig in LEGO's minifig series 4. Also, both were shot on an 18-55mm lens (the only one I have).

Oh I really like the ones with the old trains, and the evening city scape. I have a real soft spot for urban setting photos.

I just got a mirrorless Olympus camera, because I travel quite a bit and I want a nice camera that's light and also dummy proof. I'm not really a photography hobbyist, I don't have the time or patience to learn about all the settings on a DSLR, but the Olympus is really friendly and easy to use. It produces great photos and really helps capture the travel experience.

Glad you enjoyed them.  No worries about using a smaller camera; yours is just as capable as a D-SLR, especially since it's not the tool, it's the person using it that matters.

@EB: Great bird photos man.  Got that D5100 yet? :P

@Kabinator: I rather like those macros.  You seem to have a knack for them.

Interesting shot.  What film did you use?  I think it is black and white, because you can't get that effect in any other way I know of.  Do you always sign your prints/negatives?

Thanks.  Believe it or not, this was shot on a digital camera.  I set the white balance to something I felt would make B&W look better; I think having some experience with film at least helped.

I did also have my Nikon F100 film SLR with me, loaded with Kodak TMAX 100 speed film.  I normally shoot with Tri-X 400 but being in the dark I wanted cleaner shots.  I still haven't developed that roll (or scanned any of my negatives/prints, for that matter).

I do sign all of my digital work, haven't signed any of my film prints yet.  I just like signing my stuff; I don't really have a need for heavy copyright at the moment.

Thanks!  I think some time in the dark room has brushed upon my preferences a bit, even in my digital work.

Hopefully, next week I'll have film scans to share.  But in the mean time, here's a couple shots from this evening (I hate to keep bumping my own thread, so if anyone else has stuff to share, please go ahead :) ).

Caught this little guy while out shooting some trains action:

    railroad_rabbit_by_somewhere1belong-d60l

And when the train I was following finally left several hours later, I was able to catch it passing through my old neighborhood just before midnight.

Pick it up in GIMP and use the Image controls to shrink it to something reasonable like 800 x 600 in jpeg format.  Then reload it on your image site.

I've taken over 21,000 pictures in the past 8+ years since I've owned my own camera.

Yeah, there are some nice ones. No, I'm not going to post them all here :P (I have them in a Facebook album, but that's private... maybe I'll reactivate my dormant dA account at some point, but don't hold your breath)

Anyways, here's a choice shot from my flight home last night:
