What do we get for 3kb seems a tad small. I understand the bulk of game is online on servers. Do anyone know what the 3kb is? It seems small to me as I thought we needed some hard drive space. Must be a account setup file which will download more from a server.

Everything will go through Origin. Amazon, Gamersgate, etc just sell keys to use on origin.

The retail copy of the program is just the installer for the game.  Once you install the installer and press "play", the game will actually download and install.  The download and install is about 20 minutes on a good internet connection.

Like most cross-retailer dealies, the game will run through whatever digital distribution program is stated on the packaging/description. E.G. I can buy Anno 2070 on steam, but it will still launch Uplay whenever I try to play it. When I try to play AoEO by clicking it in the Steam Library, GFWL launches and asks me for another set of logon info.

Origin is the only place to download it - so why wouldn't it ? You would not be able to play it otherwise lol. Amazon is legit they are not a scam.

To clear things up for everyone.

 

There are TWO downloads.

 

The first download is effectively a light-weight installer. This installer will install basic components of the game, and will require you to have Origin installed with an active Origin account. 

 

Once you have installed the game, you will be forced to download the "rest" of it through the SimCity Launcher.

 

If you download through Origin it is basically the EXACT same process as the beta, where you install the game, launch it, then download the rest from the launcher.

 

The TWO downloads could be released at different times, so just because you can download the installer does not mean MAXIS will let you download the content. However my understanding is that as of March 1st both downloads will be available.

The game tile in origin is still greyed. Also, looking at the official EA Facebook page, some other person asked the official people and the reply is that the download is only available on 5th March local time.

My guess is they will start on the 1st of March at around 6:00am PST in the US.  So you will need to wait until then to download.  Best guess.

In my experience with this sort of thing, the date is where the company is located, not where the users are located.  For example when Steam does a release set for 10AM, it's 10AM PST (N. America), not 10AM time of a user in Africa, or UK etc.  Anyway, tomorrow (the 1st of March in the U.S.) is not far away to finally find out for certain.

 

I would think that if EA / Maxis has planned this right, they will be opening up the downloads to avoid a massive bottleneck on the 5th where users might get sub par download speeds when everybody that ordered is trying to get the game at the same time.  Seems that SC5 is a substantial sized game and presumably has sold pre-orders reasonably well if not better so...  Whether they'll open up the pre download on the 1st or the 4th or somewhere in between we'll have to wait and see for certain.

I upgraded the wireless to N and I have a 640gb hard drive with 2GB of ram. My other computer is an HP intel pentium 4 3.2ghz 2gb of ram 19in monitor. Hopefully one will  be able to play it.

No. With a boxed copy, you will probably have to download a small day one patch. However all of that 12GB will install from the disc.

I'm sorry, but you will need to buy a new computer.

The processor of the laptop doesn't meet the minimum requirements (Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.0GHz or better) and it has too less RAM (needs at least 2GB RAM, recommended are 4GB)

And I doubt that your other computer will be able to run it since an Intel Pentium 4 is a 10 year old single core processor. You can try it, but expect that it won't run at all. You didn't mention the graphic card, which is another important part, but I doubt that it will make any difference.

Think for the UK it is March 7th so if it's a 12 gig download it may take a week or two from that date. Don't know what my connection speed is but it's broadband...
