Id prefer if they spent the time on regional stuff considering thats the main focus of the game. Id like to see how it functions on large regions.

I watched it today and it was lots of fun.  The guys moderating were a hoot!

The invention of beer and the wheel were the foundation of modern civilization & together were the catalyst that split humanity into two distinct subgroups: liberals & conservatives. Some men spent their days tracking & killing animals to B-B-Q at night while they were drinking beer. These men were called "conservatives". Other men who were weaker & less skilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly B-B-Q's & doing the sewing, fetching & hair dressing. They were called "progressives".

We're a week away from everyone being able to play the game, but this isn't like an MMO where being able to play WELL on day one is important.  If we get the game and just flail around a bit on our first cities for a week or two, is it really a problem?  I'm planning on playing a small (say, 3-tile) region by myself just to get a handle on the basics before I'd even consider playing a large region (by myself or with others).  And given the sheer number of hours people will end up spending on games like this (as opposed to so many other games where one good playthrough is all you want), starting over after a week or two is really not a big deal.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that people shouldn't watch these videos.  Just that you're going to learn little from them that you wouldn't have figured out for yourself within the first day or two of release.  And frankly, I'm looking forward to that trial-and-error learning process...

Also note that the game probably only has about 20 hours of content max.

Watching other people play the game, that has gone Gold, yet we still can't play because of a specific release date?

It's even more pointless than that.

I poured 16 hours into the beta's and I barely scratched the surface.

Same here (time spent in both betas).

As far as the Disaster City live stream today I found it interesting not necessarily because of the disasters but instead because we are getting good looks at stuff that was locked in the betas.

In this episode I got to see a more detailed look at the larger fire/police stations, the nuclear power plant, avenues with light rail, the municipal airport, and more. I am definitely interested in seeing the episode focusing on regional cooperation between cities.

It might not be enough extra info to convince someone to buy or not to buy the game but it definitely gives you a good idea of its scope.

I played the beta with 90% of the game shut off for almost of 12 hours. It will take me at least a week or two just learning all available features and building a city specialized in one or two of them. I expect to be playing this game well into the third month before I've experienced all the regions. After that I will start working the leaderboards and challenges.

There is enough content here for 6 months of play or more.

It certainly looks like they are trying hard to give the game some overriding purpose other than 'build a city'. I have to say that all the previous titles suffered from being too non-focus, sandbox type affairs IMO and eventually I got bored and stopped playing them - usually after a couple of months at the most. I like the way they are going with the new game, should give it lots more life to the old city building scenario, as well as pulling the Simcity community together. Its exactly what the series needs.

I watched them build the casino city today... I think it showed that just by plopping stuff down your not going to make any money.  Your cities are going to need to be well thought out and planned or your going to fail.  They had a grasp on how to play the game and still couldn't get their casino's profitable in the 4 hours of gameplay they had.  Granted, it was more of a PR stunt than city building but I think it shows the game has some difficulty to it.

I think this is what will make this game last ... You can't just create a city in a sandbox (well I suppose you can in sandbox mode). You have to deal with issues constantly, and there is no guareentee that doing something will work.

These are the same guys that had a red power warning for over half an hour while they were trying to expand their population. They either did not know what they were doing or were to distracted to run their city right.

I watched some of the going green last night.

What is going on with the traffic at 1:08 till about 1:11 in that video? Just after they built the tram roads? It looks like the traffic sim breaks and just sorta bogs down and creates a massive traffic issue...

It seems to show 2 lanes of traffic trying to turn left onto a one lane road and bogging down because of it. I dont know if they ever did or not, but the traffic then stops moving even on green lights and everything just sorta goes to poo traffic wise around that area because traffic has just stopped for the most part for several minutes...

I've been watching (and enjoying!) the live broadcasts all week.  One question:  The hosts have been taking Twitter/Facebook comments from viewers and allowing them to re-name buildings and landmarks (ie: The University, the baseball field, etc.).  Does anyone know if we will actually be able to edit the names of buildings, businesses, landmarks, etc. like in SC4?

I didn't see them doing it in their live sessions but if they did I see no reason you can't.

I don't believe so. I think the only name you can actually edit is the city name.

Well that would be a shame since that's always been something I've enjoyed doing in SC4. Back when my parents used to own car dealers in California, I'd rename the car dealers in SC4 to their company name, and an assortment of other businesses that I'd visited in my life.

I too am getting the impression that you can't rename the buildings.  The webcast guys would let Twitter and Facebook viewers vote on a name, but I noticed they weren't actually editing the building names in the game.  Must have just been an 'in theory' activity.  Quite a shame, because I would really love to add that personal touch to my landmarks.

Anyone else getting annoyed by the guy clearing his nose by snorting every 5 minutes? Haha. I'm enjoying it otherwise!
