Hello everyone. Well, I have been BATing for a while but I think that my productions could improve if I asked some help here in simtropolis, so I decided to start this thread in order to show some of my recent work and to receive some tips on how to improve it. So here is a house that I made last week, it's based on a house found in my home town in the countryside of Brazil, I would really aprecciate any comments. Sorry if I made any grammar mistakes.

Very nice BAT. I don't really see what you could need help to improve. I particularly like the roof slate textures.

well, first, bemvindo :)

secondly, i'm going to ask, for better and easy visualization of your pictures, that you host them on a web site outside ST (like photobucket or imageshack) and post here using the image posting function of the forum ;)

now the Bat, I have some consideration on it. first the colors. they are to my point of view a bit oversaturated. but not that much, as they are would be ok. the major issue is the roof. It stands too much from the rest. Let me ask you to make an exercise. take a look at the game's houses with a tiled roof as yours. you will notice that, not only their color is a bit more faded away, as also blurred. there are no sharp textures as yours. So I would or replace the texture for other more smooth or, take this one, scale it a bit down and blur it a lot. this second option I dot know if is the best though.

you have fallen into the same mistake as everyone who starts BATing, pick a texture and drop it into the BAT and it's done. that's not the best way to proceed. Good textures are not found, are made ;)

I hope I made my self understand clear :) and good start and good luck! ;)

Looks like a promising start indeed :) I'll have to echo others with regard to the roof if the tiles will remain that large, I'd suggest modelling them. They're surprisingly not that hard - just a bunch of tapered, sliced tubes achieve a convincing result. I'll be sure to follow this.

Ok, thanks very much for everyone's comments!

So you are all suggesting me to scale down the roof tiles, but I don't know what is to "blur" an texture as gn_leguim mentioned so I would be very gratefull if someone explained that to me. Also, I don't know if mentioned, but I make my models at sketchup and render them with BAT4max for 3dsmax 2012. Here are some minimal changes I have made. Sorry about the picture again, when I tried to use imageshack I received this message "You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community."

    Thanks for the help!  :D

well, about imageshack try to use .jpg files or maybe .png ;)

(Gaussian) Blur is a graphic effect you can apply to an image to smooth it out. I cant really explain in english so I leave an image that speaks for 1000 words :P

    300px-Gaussian_blur_example.jpg

Nevertheless, I am not sure if this will be good for your roof. Also, it would be good if you would add a gradient effect on the roof. i.e make the roof darker on the bottom and lighter in the top.

Given this may I ask you, how good are you with Photoshop or Gimp (or other image editing software)?

I really like the distressed roof texture on the pink building. Very well done.

I would say that the saturation of the textures is perfect for this style of building. Looking good.

Muito Legal! My personal favorite is the 4th one from the right. The wall texture is great and the tiles are awesome. As I told you I've never been to Brazil (what a shame) but I've seen tons of photographs from the Nordeste and most of the the time the walls didn't look that clean, especially on the side of the buildings.

Also, are you planning to make corner buildings like you did on the Casebres Coloniais pack?
Otherwise great job! Keep up the good work :thumb:

I will take it as it is, but one question left, how is the nightlight ? I can't believe that you are still new to this one, the BATs are just very good.

    Wonderful job, buddy !

I really aprecciate all the comments, especially Bastet's for his posted pictures of my idol Luiz Gonzaga, who is undoubtedly the biggest name in the whole history of brazilian music and a major icon of the Northeast region, and the beatifull city of Olinda. Well Bastet, I made the textures look clean because I wanted them to look like they were recently painted, I didn't want to make those houses feel so run-down nor old as those colonial houses in Olinda. I will make two corner houses for this little set, I hope to post a picture of them by tomorrow.

I wanted my houses to look clean as the green one on the left or as the red one in the right. Thanks for the comments everyone, I will soon post more pics :thumb:

Sorry for double posting but I just saw jason leo's comment. I can guarantee you there are night lights, when I finish the two pending corner houses I will show the lights for you. Thanks for the comment

Ok guys, I got a little excited and decided to make some new houses, so now I have 20 pros, 4 were designed for use on corner lots. Once again I aprecciate everyone's comments and I ask once again to feel free to make new comments and critics. So here are the pictures, I will soon start my work on commercial buildings as I am still in my vacations.

Those are looking quite nice; the illusion of the textured roof is working much better now.

Thank you all for the comments, I am really glad you all liked it! So I am guessing I can officially start my development on my small commercial set! Once I finish both sets I will release them here and at simcitybrasil.com, but this may take a while. I also have some few projects in my mind, like doing middle class modern buildings as well and a tiny set of historical houses, wich would contain houses in art-deco, neoclassical and neocolonial houses, and as matter of fact, I already did some

    49019091.png

The left would represent low wealth, run-down historical houses, and the one in the right would represent middle-class, recently restored houses. Please tell me what you think :D
