Due to a number of circumstances, I feel that my relationship with ST as a whole is falling out. I feel I can't stay because I feel too humiliated to continue posting. Give me a weak to cool down.

~ COMING SOON! Exciting new projects! ~

I'm not going to be here for 5 days. I will be camping in the northern California forests. It is said that Robert Gimlin, the man who was with Roger Patterson when they filmed the famous "Bigfoot" clip will be there, too.

Edit:

I have returned as of June 17th. It turned out Gimlin wasn't there, but Al Hodgeson was. Al Hodgeson contacted Patterson and Gimlin about finding giant footprints and then thought they are the footprints of Sasquatch. Then sometime later Patterson and Gimlin went hiking near Willow Creek and lo and behold, they found it and made the world famous Bigfoot Film. Basically without Hodgeson, the bigfoot film may never have existed.

I'm not exactly leaving but with my new job, I'm certainly not going to be posting as frequently as I have been. I'll poke in every now and then though. Love ya, ST!

DT, have you become the man who never returned?

Well, you know...real life and all that stuff happens, and you can never go home again. At least I'm almost done with uni!

Well, if DT will stop eating sea urchins (uni) maybe it is because home is never what you remembered. All memories are seen with some nostalgia, even the bad ones are tinted by your perspective. So, home is never what you remember. For example, my childhood home is now occupied by a Wendy's and my school is the site of a McDonald's. The peaceful street is now a tourist trap.

Yeah, it never is the same....memories are constructs in our memory of ideas and experiences gathered through the years. Over time, bits and pieces of them are replaced, or lost. This is why nostalgic events in dreams or stories told are always off; sometimes, you can't quite put your finger on it, but something has changed.

Of course, there's also the point when you have to leave home for a while, and you change alongside the place you used to frequent; this causes a sense of conflict and even dissonance upon one's return. The presence of strong reminders, artifacts, and remnants of the past seem like a mirage, or an untouchable, unalterable portal into the past. But alas; one can't always reconnect, particularly if any sort of connection was never maintained between the parties involved. There have been multiple times that I wanted to reconnect, but I just wasn't able to do it, for many reasons (time constraints, lack of connection to newcomers, other people I once knew who moved on, etc).

As for uni/university, it is just such a large part of my life, particularly since I went with an architecture major. The effort one has to put into it is all-encompassing, which may result in the detriment of one's health, social life, and participation in hobbies. In the process, new social connections and interactions are made, and many skills are sharpened and acquired, but at what cost? It may be a temporary phase in life, but the aftermath will affect the outcomes for pretty much the rest of one's life. And of course, perspectives also change...things that were once at the front of my mind are no longer an issue. Things I once enjoyed were eschewed due to their diminishing meaning, and the need to nurture various skills required to finish the assignments and projects. But once the projects are done, the outcome is an excellent testament to this hard work, and sacrifice.

Do I regret this? Maybe I do, maybe I don't, but it is still a thought of contention.

When do you finish DT? Being an architect has great trials and great rewards. Good luck.

I have two more years, out of a five year program. Two years is nothing, really. Before I entered the architecture program, I took some other classes (Core curriculum, etc) at a community college. With the 4th and 5th years of the program, you have opportunities to do study abroad and or travel to various exotic destinations for the studio projects. Even last semester, we took a short trip to San Francisco to look at a couple of projects (California Academy of Sciences by Renzo Piano, DeYoung Collection by Herzog & DeMeuron, etc) that were appropriate for our curriculum. Now, before the fall semester begins, I actually have a week and a half expedition to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, which combines elements of danger with a unique urban (and political, and everything else) history. Oh and yeah, I heard that Tel Aviv is quite the party town...so l'chaim! :thumb:

Have fun. Sounds like a great trip. Will you be looking at present or past architecture in Jerusalem? There isn't much before the Roman times because they took the city apart block by block, but everything else is there including the Dome of the Rock and the remains of the second temple.

If you get a chance, come to Toronto. There are some neat newer examples of modern public buildings. The City Hall is rather old hat now, but recent stuff includes the Art Gallery of Ontario's new facade and the Four Seasons Center for the Performing Arts. There is a new entry for the Royal Ontario Museum as well, you might find interesting. You might find the waterfront renewal worth a look. If you are interested in Victorian stuff, the Old City Hall, now a court house, will give you a thrill. It is not very new but you might find the glass tu-tu (Roy Thompson Hall, home of the Toronto Symphony) of some value. And then, the old standby, the CN Tower.

Ah yes, Toronto...the annual AIAS (Amaerican Institute of Architecture Students) Forum was there last year. I didn't get to go, but many of my colleagues did go. I could probably go there one day to check it out, but I've always been more interested in Montreal or Quebec City. I have been in Toronto once as a child, but I don't remember much, other than the suburbs (Either Brampton or Mississauga).

As for Jerusalem, we'll be looking at the older stuff, as well as some of the market places, and the general urbanity of it all. Same goes for Tel Aviv, which itself doesn't really have much before 1909, save for Jaffa, which itself doesn't have much from antiquity.

I will be leaving for the city of San Jose, CA on Sunday. I will be visiting there for the week and I will be able to access the internet while i'm down there. While i'm also down there, it is likely I will go to some car shows as well as doing activities such as going to Santa Cruz or finding a place to box.

No, I meant the water was cold. We went to a place called Rafter 6 Ranch near Canmore, AB. We went rafting on the Kananaskis River. It was 10 in the morning, so it was a bit chilly, 15c, but it warmed up by the time we were done.

You were in Kananaksis? Lucky fellow. That is reputed to be a beautiful, unsavaged boreal forest. It must have been great. Will you post a photo album?

I will try and get some photos to post. I won't have any shots of the forest itself though if that's what you were interested in, we never really ventured into it.
