I will be moving over the period May 31 to June 30th this year.  It is a piecemeal move, and my new Internet hook up is scheduled for June 4th.  I may or may not move my computer system on that date depending on how things are going.  The effect of all this is that somewhere around the end of this month, I will disappear for a week to ten days.

If you do anything to the autosystem, ol' buddy, you'll have to make all the food and pour all the drinks your own self.  One nice thing about automation is that you don't have to think about it, just use it.

Oh, and did I say that the KK Dragon will defend the autosystem?  If you've never met the Kempenfeldt Kelly, you should look in the back room at the thing that looks like a very large leather couch in dark green.  You are probably one of those nice, plump, juicy Dutchmen.  Yum.

When I go off the air tonight, I'll be gone for a couple of days at least.  I am moving this computer tomorrow moreing and since I won't actually be living at the new location, I may be gone for a week or more.

Hi guys,

I joined a while back and I've learnt and experienced a lot from this site. I've met some great people, lots just recently, I've seen the site evolve, I've watched as people from the '07 era grew from simple members to moderators (Jake and Craig), I've downloaded countless files from the STEX and uploaded my own in an attempt to give something back and I hope I have. I made a CJ after being inspired by Beebs, didn't go so well, got locked pretty quickly 3.gif, I annoyed established members of the community like Dedgren with my devilishness but I hope I learnt form that and between creating my own Simcity site with the help of many people including Jake and messing around on many SC communtities, I've learnt a lot and had a great time. I hope I've uploaded something of value, I hope I've helped someone with a problem and I hope I've added to this site, a site that has taught me so much and helped me become a better person.

I've decided to move on with my life and so I don't expect frequent visits back but I want to say thank you, to all of you because you really are the people that make this site so brilliant. Thanks for all the comments on my CJ's, Uploads and Project Threads over the years. I hope you all have long and happy lives,

Good luck,

Richard

Well, I am back, sort of.

I moved my machine to the new location and my monitor suffered a portius too-oftenus syndrome.  I get recognition of it, but net even the start-up automatic brand announcement.  I think it is dead, since I get no picture of any kind.  So much for LCD monitors.  I think it is past its MTBF (best before date).  So I am goiong monitor shopping Monday morning.

Meanwhile, at the old place, I have loaded up my late wife's machine, which has an old NEC Multisync that isn't really supported any more except on a very low res (800 x 600) basis.  Of ourse, all my backups went with the other machine, so to get everything I had set up back, I have to move the freestanding hard disk back here.  I won't do that for just a couple of days.  I can't even play sc4 because the play disk is in the other machine, grrr.  Talk later.

Monitor shopping, eh? I've had the same CRT monitor since 1998. Still works like a charm, although it's rather unsightly from all the cigarettes I have smoked while sitting in front of it. It's a little yellow.

I assume you mean the case.  Try a little glass cleaner on the paint.  Shouldn't harm it, and may improve the looks.

I got a new ACER LCD monitor for my machine at the other place.  Now all I have to do it complete my move.  Back to packing boxes, I guess.

Yes, yes. The case. The screen I cleaned regularly of course.

If it makes you feel better, 80% of my possessions have remained in boxes for more than a month. I'm kind of in limbo in the moment.

Well, I am certainly Headed in that direction.  I have about five days of wearable clothes before I have to do laundry.  Everything else is packed.  I am cleaning out the office, so this connection may go at any time.

A horse on me!!  I am ripping apart my office and I decided to move my late wife's computer system (the one I am on, mine is at the other place) to a different spot so I could work on cleaning out her old workstation.  So I took off all the cables and cords, being very careful to keep track of the main power cord for the box.  After a couple of hours of unfaffling her cable ties (she tied things to inaccessible places with Velcro straps, like back table legs), I finally got everything I wanted  moved over to a new spot and hooked up the stuff I need to do Internet and mail.  Then I went to find the main power cord.  Not there!  Couldn't be found anywhere in the room.  Knew it was there!  Hunted some more..,..  {Unprintable epithets deleted.}  Gave up!  Dove into my wire and cable storage and sorted through a Gordian knot of old junk, including an old cell phone that I can now recycle for free, and finally found the right electrical cord.  And so here I am, with you all again, if temporarily.

Tomorrow, I am moving my entertainment systems so you may be sure that I'll finally be moved by the middle of next week at the latest.  In the process of getting settled, I'll probably be off line for a few days, but I should be around this week end.

If I can ever justify the expense, I am going to get a notebook.

Well, here I finally am in my new apt, and here I shall remain.  Right now I have canyons of cardboard and am having a hard time unearthing things as simple as a pen.  I am sure this will slowly improve.

One final note.  I have moved my web site to my new provider.  If you are using any URLs from the old site, you should switch over.  The new site address is in my profile.

Hi, Ash.

You should drop in more often.

And on another topic:  Aauugh!  I upgraded to UBUNTU 10.10 to get some of the neat new stuff, and to my utter disgust there is a bug in the nVidia driver I need for SC4.  If it is not fixed soon, I am going to back out.  It has, of all things, an undefined symbol when it is being linked to the kernel.  Foo.  An amateur error.  Probably missed because my chip set is so old they don't have one to test with.

SC4 will not run in the so-called low graphics mode.  Both the graphics accelerator and the sound chip are disabled.  I'll hang around the forms, though.
