Host files on imgur?

I just decided to use imgur as an image hosting site for me. Fast to use, images load faster and also, the images don't get deleted after a certain amount of time. Anyone here use Imgur? But why do people prefer to use imageshack and photobucket over imgur? They're still image-sharing sites anyway.

Tastes are divided into genres.

I never tried imgur, and I'm open to try it. Also I use Flickr, Picassa, Twitpic and Facebook as image hostage. But for general things, included SC4 journalism, I use Imageshack, because is the first that worked fine for me. But as I said, I'm open to try Imgur, so thank's for the suggestion.

I used Imageshack for years before I switched to Imgur. Most of the reason being, at the time, Imageshack was experiencing server issues. Site wouldn't load at times, and if it would then sometimes the images wouldn't load. Or they'd take forever. Of course I knew about Imgur by that point so I decided to try it and found it to me miles better anyway.

When things got dicey, I switched to the third page of my private site.  It forces me to keep images down to a limit.

Every free image hosting site has it's issues. Imgur has two:

1. 1MB max file size. If you upload something over 1MB it will compress it to this limit, drastically reducing image quality. It's a pain because most of my SC4 screenshot JPGs are over 1MB

2. You can only see the latest 250 (?) images you've uploaded to your account. Older images will remain wherever you posted them, but if you're rummaging around to find an old pic it can make it difficult.

I say go with Majhost, no upload limit for a free account but it only lets you upload one image at a time... Very tedious if you want to share several images.

^^ There's a solution to that too: ZIP the images and upload the ZIP. Works great!

However, organisation is advised with Majhost. The more a folder is filled up (excluding sub-folders), the more time it will take to upload, because it will re-render all thumbnails in that folder.

My favorite so far is Dropbox.  You can organize folders to your hearts content, you can share any type of files, including photos, and your space limit can be increased by getting referrals (500mb per referal, I think)

Flickr hid everything but my first 200-250 images, as well, but if you pay to upgrade your account, you don't run into that problem.  I use Photobucket because it apparently doesn't really care how many images you upload.  I probably have like 600-700 images and I can still find them all, so I still use that.  I stopped using Flickr because my older images all got hidden.  I looked at Imageshack and just didn't like how it looked (because I can be incredibly shallow from time to time).  And I didn't realize Imgur was a hosting website I could use until well after I had begun using Photobucket, so I just haven't started uploading pics there yet.  I may use them to host a webcomic if I ever find the time to do that.

If you want general file hosting, I recently installed Dropbox, and I recommend it.

Dropbox has a cap, and they do send you annoying emails every now and then if it's almost full or you haven't used it in a while. Good for online storage, but not the best for image hosting IMO.

I'm using imgur too. It's the new (old) imageshack, really simple, easy, perfect.

Dropbox has a limit of 2GB free, so I think it's not good to upload a lot of images.

I only use Dropbox for data files.  I have a paid Imgur account and my subscription renewal just went through PayPal.

I have 31gb on Dropbox (from the Great Space Race), and since it will expire in about a year, I've been trying to fill it up as much as possible (at which point I'll just make a new account). If anyone knows how to set up ShareX to work with majhost, I'd use that instead. But as it is, all of my screenshots and camera photos automatically get uploaded to share on Dropbox, and it works wonderfully. Flickr would be good if I could easily get direct links to photos, but they always want to give me a picture link instead (I do know how to get a direct link, it just takes longer than it should), so that's why I'm sticking with Dropbox for now.

Are you referring to Nonny's imgur site, or Dropbox? my 31gb is free, which is why it'll expire in a little over a year (and I have no plans for renewal). Protip, if you have Dropbox and a smartphone, and enable camera upload/backup, they give you 3gb extra (this might have expired since, but I think it still stands). You can then disable the auto-backup at will and the 3gb extra remains.

Also, Flickr offers 1TB worth of space, but as I mentioned before, the image sharing (at least the way I prefer it) is a little bit more tedious than others. Imageshack is no longer free, either, so unfortunately all of the old pictures on this site hosted there are probably gone now.

Why anyone would pay money for a non-professional image hosting account is beyond me.

Probably because I plan to use more than allowed free.  As for non-professional sites, what do you consider professional?

I would think a subscription based service/model caters more to a business type of setting rather then just a place for users to host personal pictures.
