So you didn't feel in any way that you wanted to continue to optimize the city?

Sure, it would be great to keep going and making the city more like I'd like it, but it's more SimNeighbourhood than SimCity. Ofcourse I'll buy the game, but I'm certain I won't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed SC4, mostly due to the tiny neighbourhood size.

yeah i filled the whole little square too. Seriously hoping that there are bigger tiles - at the moment it just feels like a really small squared mix of societies and cities XL rather than the game I think we all want

I agree that the tiles are way to small to be called city-sized. I still enjoyed it quite a bit and I'm not disappointed that I've already pre ordered.

I filled my square in all three of the 1 hour sessions I played. What will take a long time is building your city up, but we still need larger tile sizes since we shouldn't be filling our cities within the first hour. I also think the biggest reason why we're filling them so fast is due to the fact that making money is beyond easy.

It's indeed easy to get a decent cash flow. I wonder if they made it a bit easier in the beta, then it will be at launch.

The more addons and things will make everything cost more, and since the tiles are so small - it'll probably get harder to get enough tax revenue to cash up to the spiraling costs...

Actually if you looked closely, adding moules reduces the hourly cost so the investment weighs agains building a new building

I have to agree on the tile size tho, after filling it in 1 hours, there was little left to do. I even had a few C$$$ building at max desity.

Since you run out of space it just becomes a game of regionplay to get the RCI fulfilled and I know playing that game with other people is generally bothersome.:S

Optimising the tile doesnt feel worthwhile for me since I wont own the savedgames =/

Thank you for confirming that the upcoming SimCity game will be a major disappointment.

I want to create my city of my dreams, one that takes many dedicated days to complete, not one hour. My city should be larger than a Toronto superblock and it should be contiguous.

I will wait at least a year.

it's probably why they limited the demo to 1hr, 2hrs and we'd run out of things to do and realize how shallow the game is.

Only if they had the same set of available things. I should think that, if we had everything available to us, we'd be pre-occupied for well over 10 hours experimenting.

Most of the game is not even available to play yet. And just because you covered the whole map in junk doesn't mean the city is "done", or even close to it. The game encourages you to improve existing neighborhoods in addition to building new ones; plus I just can't call my city done when half the population is working in sweatshops and living in shacks.

I guess i'm a slow player but I only filled maybe 60% of the map. The second time I played I focused on improving density of the zones, instead of building zones superfast like everyone else is.

Filling the map != maxing your city.

Far from it, actually. I guess it will take some time out of the extremely limited beta to realize this.

    Exactly!

We couldn't get max development in the beta due most of the buildings and major roads being blocked off.

Edit: actually cities in real life can be quite small!

There is a city two towns over from me, it spans 2 Sq. miles and has a population of 5,000.

Yes they voted to become a city a few years ago and they did!

Cities have greater home rule and protection from their neighbors.

Many states allow any municipality become a city if the voters approve it.

Extremely excited while playing it. Had fun in the first hour. It is like the first hour of SimCity 4 when you choose a small city tile in the region and start your first town. You think everything is fine and it is just the beginning.

After 1 hour in SimCity 4 you discover you can build more , bigger , more complex , plan your major transport lines...etc. You can link your small town to another bigger tile to have that big city and it no longer a town it is just one block of your one City.

But here it seems you just get stuck in that 1 hour over and over again even with the limit removed. You jump to these predefined , spaced small tiles to build discontinuous "cities" with predefined transport systems , with predefined locations for special structures... more predefined stuff because you know the customer is dumb and can't decide where to place stuff.

This is basically SimTown or SimChoppedCity with half the game-play hard coded for you. No wonder all their marketing media is made of close up screenshots.

    Sorry for the rant.

I wonder what speed people are using when the fill up the tile within one hour of playing. I almost on turtle speed to watch the city grow. If you play Llama speed ... yes within minutes the tile is filled-up. So far I am really enjoying the Beta and can hardly wait for the final game.

A reminder about staying on topic and not directing comments "at" others... This a topic that discusses the beta experience, not one to re-hash all the old arguments about what "should" be. There's plenty of other topics dedicated to those. Also, using terms such as "most people" or "all of us" are over-generalizations that in no way can be proved to be factual or not. Expressing your own opinions is fine, as long as they're "your own". Let's not argue here about people's perceptions of the game. People can like it or not. it's not up to anyone else to decide that for them. Thanks...
