Lunch: Fresh local strawberries.  We have a strain of berries up here called 'ever bearing' and the introduction of them has been an adventure for the whole summer so far.  These are more tart than the normal strawberries you see in mid-June.  Still, they taste like strawberries so I guess they really are.

Completely sea-level compatible, just like pop-corn. The difference is in the maize breed, up to what I know. Anyway, most of it is produced in the altiplano. A more exotic alternative is puffed quinoa, which looks as an absurdly small version of pululos (pululos are ~1cm diameter, puffed quinoa is around 2mm).

Sticking with the autoctonous trend, now I'm drinking mate con melisa (Ilex paraguariensis and Melissa officinalis), a hot, macerated beverage that  is drunk through a metallic straw, and traditionally served in a dry and hollowed pumpkin. That's really complicated, and luckily for arkward people like me, some argentinian genius invented a plastic device that holds hot water and yerba mate, allowing a simpler use.

Edit: investigating a bit, it turns out that puffed cereals are harder to do at sea level. For example, here in Santiago (2.000 feet avobe sea level), pop-corn is prepared in an almost standard pressure cooker, while in coastal east Asia a strange pressure chamber is used, and I assume that it uses a way higher pressure, because it causes a controlled explosion when opened.

2nd edit: it turns out that the explosion could be the effect of the increased atmospherical pressure, and not a more powerful method of pop-corn making. In fact, pressure cookers are needed to cook food at higher altitudes, because water boils under 100 °C when altitude is increased. So this could remain a mystery to all us...
