Have to admit most of the recent pics, especially the ones on this page, are looking quite nice. The Oil HQ building looks rather attractive, as well.

I dont like how the zoning has changed. I used to look awesome in that first gameplay video EA posted on youtube. Every lot was sized differently.

I think I understand why they did it...it might have something to do with the way road density control works. Why predetermine the size of the land when the land behind it might be the one to evolve. I think I saw in some beta screen shots how the road planning tool shows recommended placing based on the potential growth.

The way I'm hoping the guides work, is that it'll dictate building zones back to back with the potential of both lots being medium density, or one being light and the one behind being dense, or both being light etc... ...and no gaps behind the back of the properties.

Now it seems that the lots simply aren't shown at all.

The new zoning will make it hard to create dense lowrise areas, because you will have no idea where buildings will go and you'll end up with a bunch of empty spaces.

I'm just going to pack everything as closely together as the game will allow.

Thats my plan as well, but this new zoning system will make the job much more frustrating.

WOW! I'm loving the Taqueria photo

Here's two I found off the SimCity facebook page, they look awesome, but they're slightly older pictures:

That's what the dashed lines are for

Yeah baby! That's what I'm talking about, now that's a cool looking city! It will be all the more mind-blowing if larger city tiles come out.

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

I'm not going to lie. That looks amazing, especially with the tilt-shift.

Ohmygosh! And that region looks stunning!

pity you will barely be able to develop 10% of it.

And why would the mayor need an avenue to his house? These screenshots don't seem particularly well thought through

I don't know about you but I think my ego could sustain a 6 lane avenue to my house ;)

Well, to be honest, I am not much more impressed than before with these new screenshots, probably because I was expecting much more. Nevertheless, generally speaking, some things look ok and even nice to a certain point. I still say, that they should have hired some of our "designers" and Batters for this game.

One thing, well actually two, that bothers me is that there are no farms, because even a great city has a farm in it or near it all the times. What happened, were they forgotten?

Then......Will those "squarry" railcurves be improved? I hope, because they look damn ridiculous. (roads and aves sometimes too look "squarry")

A bit of irony there, but if the NAM team were to find a way to create such circular transit constructions pretty much most of the "new" functionality of the (comparatively more limited than SC4) transit networking would fall away.

I see your point. Though after playing with the beta I think the new SC is kind of different than the SC4. I mean not a sequel or replacement. The GlassBox enginge is a great thing and the whole agent-based simulation is a great advancement. Personnaly I think about buying the new game and if I have the time I will keep playing with SC4 with all those awesome plugins. .. and I hope for a future where the good parts of SC4 will be included in SC.

Also I will post some screenshots later. :)

Edit: I might not post my pictures, I can't remember if there is an NDA in the agreement.

I know, there is no comparing the two. Different targets, different customer focus.

I was simply mesmerising options over time for those who prefer the immersion of SC4. I saw the recent demo video of NAM developments, and quite frankly new functionality demonstrated in it does already rival the transit options in SC2013, except the full circle stuff.

Here's the thing though, SC2013 is a nice bit of quick fun, it's just designed to appeal wider rather than go deeper. Perfectly understandable, just not for me. At least not until it becomes part of a summer sale for 10 bucks on Steam and there is open moddability without artificial limitations on that.

Do you enjoy the billions of menus and convoluted steps required to create basic transit networks, that provide similar functionality to SimCity vanilla, as created by NAM and its addons?

I haven’t been following the progress much on this game, but is that Dotted square the city borders?

Sadly yes... If you look closely at the more zoomed out city tiles, you'll notice how truly small the tile is. Worst part is, they only come in one size, and there's no next-door tile/city. In region-view there's just giant areas of nothingness that can't be touched by the players and city tiles just scattered about. You'll never be able to make a metropolitan area ever again in this game.

God-Mode and creating your own regions have been done away with completely!!!

^^^^ Dear God the tiles are so small! No wonder people are upset. On the plus side the pictures are looking better. Think I'll hold off buying this 'till the tiles are bigger.

If that allows you to build a realistic and diverse transportation network, then yes. However this is of course not possible in the new Simcity because we don't even have subways, let alone highways. And how does NAM even provide similar functionality to SimCity 1? NAM implemented an extremely complex transportation system that was never seen before in city simulation games. While NAM may be complex and takes some time getting used to, please don't bash them because they have put in countless hours into the development of that mod for free and I certainly don't see you contributing to that extent.

it looks more like SimTown rather than SimCity, oh well I did enjoy billings little towns in SC4 so I can’t be to judgmental on it just yet, strangely I still can’t wait to play it more out of curiosity than anything ells, I also I can never understand the fascination with city building games always trying to rebuild Canberra, CXl did it now the new SC,

Quite a shame about all this though... The polished up graphics, complete with the color filters make the game look beautiful, and I would really love to play this game on a much larger scale than what they're giving us. You know, actually feel like I'm sitting behind the controls of a Boeing 747 (with all sorts of buttons, tools, and gizmos) as opposed to having a super simple game that makes me feel like I'm playing the Sims 3: Town Edition on the Wii instead :(

I don't know about you guys but my beta didn't look anything like the pictures posted. Then again I didn't use any filters but that shouldn't make that much of a difference. I have a very powerful system (8 gb ram, gtx 670, intel i7 3770) and the in-game graphics looked plain ugly. Even with all the graphical settings set to max the edges of buildings were choppy, the buildings didn't have any props in the lots and some of them appeared blurry when zoomed in. Maybe they took out high-res textures from the beta so that it would take up less space? Who knows. But if the beta is how the game really looks and these screen shots are just for show, that is highly disappointing because the beta graphics could have been done in 2008.
