These little shops are perfect to start creating older downtown areas. Melbourne has so many beautiful low rise buildings.

I was looking at a few pictures of the city from above the Yarra and it really is a beautiful place.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to mod these great buildings.

Modelling the pubs is essential for real Melbourne.

Definitely can't get enough pubs ;)  Or great smaller W2W buildings for that matter. Exciting new project :)

EDIT: I hate to even ask but would there ever be any possibility of an HD render for any of these smaller buildings? I understand that many people, particularly here at ST, prefer SD but it would be HUGELY useful for me to have an HD version of some of your smaller building models :D

EDIT 2: To clarify, I meant as an additional option alongside SD, not unlike having MN/DN options available as you do now.

I would like to see it in HD too, would be awesome! And there's a way to do 2 versions, HD and SD, so, it's not impossible.

Thanks guys :D

I couldn't sleep so I made some shops from on Lonsdale Street. Still need to work on the roof obviously, this is just the frontages:

Look good. Whereabouts on Lonsdale are these?

Guildford Lane would be a cool project too, lowrise redbrick to break it all up a bit.

Sorry to disappoint... I thought some of our eagle-eyed Melburnians would have joined the dots and given the game away by now.. these aren't random buildings I've selected ;) ... In true Melbourne style, they are part of a larger complex that will, upon release, have a whopping big skyscraper sticking out the top of it  :P  Not too big though, 6x5.

Having said that I will add these to the Prop pack so folk will be able to use them as standalone props. Noah, that's a good idea, I think I'll release 2 versions of the prop packs, HD & SD, but ultimately it will depend on the work involved. I don't imagine it will be too much effort to be honest, the props render very quickly. I wouldn't be doing that for general BAT releases though, some of them take quite a while to render and the reason I gave up making diagonal versions of everything.

Ps. The sign actually says KHYAT&Co. According to Wikipedia the building is known as the "Khyat & Co Building" and was originally a Factory. I came across an interesting newspaper article about a fire in the building in 1923, from what I can tell from the article Khyat & Co was an undergarment factory. So there you go... thanks for asking Scotty I would have never thought to look it up :)

Scotty, I think you're forgiven, that's a pretty small sign. You did well reading what you did!

That would be absolutely fantastic :ohyes:  I really enjoy making high-detail areas and these w2w buildings of yours would make a huge contribution.

Going way off topic, have you thought much about the Melbourne tram system and SC4? I've been working on a project with the tram network and would be curious what ideas you'd have for it.

Thanks Roger, if you think there's decent roof images they would be most appreciated, the Google and Bing cams can't quite get there.

Noah I might contact you in PM to understand what you're doing with trams, sounds interesting. I hadn't given it too much thought, I always considered those kinds of projects a bit beyond me. If you think I can help with anything lets discuss :D

Here's a bit more progress, mostly finishing off the Lonsdale Street frontage, just roofs and interiors to finish off really.

If you're not already doing so, have you checked out Google Earth's historic imagery function?  3/4/06 and 6/30/09 give excellent detail. The latter is a bit a shadowy however, the former shows better roof detail.

Who says Google can't quite get there? :P

Pretty standard pitched roof on the second building though it gets smaller as the building does, two smaller pitched roofs on the short one. The roof on the larger building appears to be a flat tarmac job.

Amazing!, i'm not usually a fan of old style buildings like those at the base...but i LOVE how they look blended in with the modern new buildings.
