Here is a chance for the Simtropolis community to show EA what they think. I am curious to see these numbers.

EA will find a way to ruin the franchise like they have so many others with DLC and other game changing elements. Say bye bye to mods and whatnot with always on DRM

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I will buy it once I can afford it as well.

--Ocram

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I'm not buying it until they remove the online only requirement.

I MIGHT buy it if they do that...i'm not happy about a lot of their other design decisions as well but I think those decisions can be traced to the decision to focus on multiplayer/online-only.

First off, it is not called Sim City 2013. The official name is Sim City. I plan on buying a few copies no matter what, even though I have had the privilege to play the game already. Forget everything you know about Sim City. NONE of the games released to this date compare to the new Sim City. The best way to compare this game is not to compare it to any other version of Sim City.... but to compare it to the Sims 3!!!

Where as before you could lay out residential, commercial and industry and sit back and watch your city grow, you will not be able to do that here. There are all sorts of "mini games" or "challenges" that you need to complete in order to build things. Also you need to have a more interactive attitude in your city. Being a far away mayor is not enough anymore. You will have to set your industries to create products and then sell them to your sim city residents. But keep in mind that some items will be wanted in some areas and not in others. You will have a more 1 to 1 interaction with your sims that live in your city too.

SimCity%20-%20Challenges_656x369.jpg?cb=1345055163

I can only say this, if you like the Sim City games and you like The Sims games, you will absolutely LOVE The New Sim City!!!!

Crime doesn't decrease at night, in fact it gets worse when the sun sets.

SimCity%20-%20Crime%20at%20Night_656x369.jpg?cb=1345055163

You will need to learn stocks and using a buying and selling system. Where as, in other sim city games you can not control what is made and sold in the city, in this version you NEED to in order to make your city grow.

SimCity%20-%20Global%20Markets_656x369.jpg?cb=1345055164

You should always make sure you have plenty of fire departments in your city because here the fires can spread rather quickly and destroy your city.

Sims%20Fight%20Fires_656x369.jpg?cb=1338850684

You might want to have tons of industry in your city, sure it wil grow rapidly but the health of your sims will decrease rapidly as well. And if your sims become too uphappy they will kick you out! Business and Industry are VERY& important in this game unlike in other versions. You will NEED to take an active part in your city if you want it to grow.

SimCity%20-%20Hotels_656x369.jpg?cb=1345055161

And yes, you can go play at the Casino in multi player and see if you can make it on the leader board.

SimCity%20-%20Leaderboards_656x369.jpg?cb=1345055162

So if you like the older versions of Sim City and you like the Sims games.....

YOU WILL LOVE THE NEW SIM CITY!!!

The best way to compare this game is not to compare it to any other version of Sim City.... but to compare it to the Sims 3!!!

if that's the case then i'm definitely not jumping on the bandwagon. if i wanted to play the sims i would buy it but i don't have time for all the mickey mouse [bleep] of how many times someone has to go to the bathroom.

My computer won't run it, so it would cost more than the price of the game...

Maybe some day...

performance is a non-issue, i have a new laptop w/3rd gen i7 quad cores w/an ivy bridge and 8 GB RAM, my graphics card is horrible but tweaks can overcome that limitation.

Personally, I won't get it immediatly and avoid the rush and publicity, but eventually I will buy it.

i feel the same. once the bugs are ironed out and it has a robust modding community and the price goes down i'll get it. price is a non-issue but certain elements of the game keep me from pre-ordering it. i got skyrim when it first came out and only now started really playing it b/c it took that long for decent quality mods plus the performance tweaks to go on-line. with that being said i'll eventually get it if only for novelties sake and to give it a fair shot before completely condemning it to the fires of hell from which it was spawned. but if there is true interaction between the mayor and the sims the mods will be interesting. hopefully someone will come up w/a script extender to exploit the game.

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. -- Winston Churchill

A philosopher once said, ‘When faced with untenable alternatives you should consider your imperative. War is our imperative. And if right now victory seems like an impossibility, then we have something else to reach for: revenge, payback.' -- Helena Cain, Battlestar Galactica Razor

"We'll be in too close for nukes. Same thing goes for missiles. No, this is going to be strictly a gun battle. Like two old ships on the line, slugging it out at point-blank range. I want the gun captains to do their job and start firing immediately and to continue to fire until they run out of ammo. Then, I want them to start throwing rocks." -- William Adama, Battlestar Galactica

Im with you guys on the map size thing... I was optumistic that it could be bigger untill I watched the recent videos 2kmx2km is just too small! really it should be called Sim street or something.

I will prob still buy it though as I prob wont be able to help it... I want to play simcity but I have become a bit disillusioned with simcity 4... I know its a wounderfull game but it keeps crashing to desktop more often these days... I should prob cut down my mods and see if it helps! Unfortunantly though its so easy to get carried away I keep losing my progress when it does this so have stopped playing :-(.

I will probably purchase afterwards when the price goes down and the bugs are dealt with. I bought Civ V when that first came out and don't want that kind of craziness again.

Have to be online? Fine, there might always be a crack for that later anyway, but such a small map size restriction is just sad, hopefully that can also be changed in some way later.

Having bigger maps would help but even then I'm not sure if that is enough. The online only is a non-issue as I'm always near an internet connection. The other missing features such as terraforming, control over density zoning, control over region connections, subways, highways, etc all add up. I'm trying to keep an open mind, and hopefully I will get into beta which will allow me to make a better judgement.

I will eventually, I'll probablly wait to see if an expansion pack comes in the first year like SC4 and see if a Deluxe version lands for $20 (I was burned by Simcity 4)

Also I have a lot of other games I want ahead of this game.

I'll play it first in an internet cafe. If I like it, I'll buy it.

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

"Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible." - Frank Zappa

"The wisest men follow their own direction." - Euripides

As soon as I have the money to buy it, I'll be buying it, as it stands right now, I'm facing losing my income source.

I am loving how SimCity is shaping up, there are some shortcomings, though, the tile size is, at its face, disappointing, but considering the depth of the simulation, I would settle for contiguous tiles of their current size covering the entire region.

Comparing this game to SC4 is totally unfair, SC4 is a game that has had years to be modded and had custom content added. SC13 isn't even in the same genre, it's an MMO.

SimCity is still being developed, just because something isn't in the game right now, doesn't mean it won't be in the final game.

i will not buy it; here are the reasons:

-i don't think my late 2010 laptop will be able to support the game, and my pakistani friend who promised to buy a new better cheap laptop on vacation in pakistan doesn't called from there yet, so i won't get a new one :(

- I think the game would be raped, the name simcity will be there but it won't be the same game

- always online!

- the graphics look like playskool, not realistic at all...

biggest disapointment for me since duke nukem forever

that's my opinion

Online only != MMO. There is nothing massive about it.

why do people keep saying this?

Simple answer: No

Complex answer: I am not planning to buy the new SimCity any time soon, because of the lack of a 100% offline single player mode, the small city size, the lack of contiguous urban areas, the dependence on DLCs to flesh out the game, the lack of large-scale terraforming, and a few hundred other reasons.

Probably... but I am losing faith in the game rapidly now.

Massively Multiplayer Online Game. It means it's a very large multiplayer game, with hundreds or thousands of players. Simcity 5 defiantly fits this, though it'll probably only be called an online game.

I'll definitely buy it. It does have a couple of disappointing things like the small map size and the large space between cities, but I'm definitely going to give it a shot and try this "new direction" and see if I like it or not. If not, oh well I just won't buy the next one (if there is a next one).

At $80 US, plus the cost of the expansions to make it a game that we really want, I'd have to say my initial response to be NO. Maybe in a few years I might pick it up off a discount rack, assuming the servers are still up.

No,

Because the game is a town builder and built from the ground up as a multiplayer game. The only saving grace is glassbox, but the tile sizes are so small that you're completely restricted in what you can do.
