We had sweet relief today

an evening thunder storm droped the temp from 105 to about 85

in 45 minutes or so. At least in the Frisco TX areas.

We are in typical August weather.  When I got up this morning it was so dark I had to find a clock to see that it was around 1100.  Then it poured rain for a while, and now we have 22 C with 83% humidity and the barometer is at 101.08 kPa.  So we are in a bit of a low.  The radar is ahowing overcast with showers, heavy at times, moving in the usual west to east direction over the Michigan, Lake Huron, south western Ontario area.

We're still recovering from a 4 year drought, so by this morning when I got up, the standing water was all gone and even the grass was dry.  It's like it never rained at all last night.

What kind of soil and subsoil do you have?  Sounds like sand.

No sand around here.  We have about 12 inches of rich top soil and beneath that is clay.  This area is basically a swamp being nearly surrounded by lakes and ponds.  Here's a google image of my 40 acres...

As you can see in the pic, it's pretty dry considering we've had a 4 yr drought until this summer, so obviously any rain we get, no matter how much, gets sucked up by the parched ground.  You ought to see how big our squash grows here, upwards of 10-15 pounds per squash.  We don't use miracle grow or any type of plant food because the soil here is so rich in nutrients already.

    Nice place you got there.

Anyway, around here there is no dirt or soil. No wait that isn't true. It turned as hard as a rock and it is cracked open and sun dried and baked.

Today started off at mid 60's with a strong thunderstorm, and then within 6 hours was up to a heat index of 105. One more day and the humidity is supposed to break

Generally mild today, but the weather network is saying it is going down to 15°C tonight.  This will be the first time I've closed the balcony door since I moved in here June 1st.  Good sleeping tonight.

The heat and humidity finally broke Saturday night. It now remains at 70 during the day with some breeze and no humidity. By far my favorite type of weather.

This weekend I'll go float the river or something. I have a new roomate so I ought to get to know them.

Of course any new roommate will top the last guy...he was selling felony quantities of weed and I had the joy of the police coming in to my place...

It has been consistantly in the 80's and somewhat humid lately. Basically just the same B.S. but a different day. We are having one heck of a dry spell though. We haven't any kind of consistant rain since June 24th. The grass is so dry and crispy, that when seen by a local news helicopter, it looks like we live in the desert!

When I got up this morning it was 16°C, bright and sunny.  We are in a high, and there are scattered showers around.

Didn't get hotter than about 22 all day.  Ahhhhh!

Those meterologists around here are recycling the same forecast every single night it seems like, with the exception of today.  You know it's bad when they start calling 97° a cold front, but that's exactly what they're doing.  Of course, every day from Friday on is supposed to be 100°+.

Keeping cool? Might I suggest a garden hose to cool yourself down. Then ice cubes in your shorts.

Running through the water sprinkler gets really tempting at times.  Mainly, I've been sticking to iced tea and A/C.  It's to the point where I almost want to yell at the TV every night, essentially blaming the weatherman whether he's right about the heat or wrong about a cold front, even though he's just the messenger.  At least it seems like the weather forecasters are overall being "honest" now about the heat and not getting our hopes up with rain chances that never materialize.  I've known of some to put a 10%-15% percent chance in on the last day of a seven-day forecast.  I wonder where that goes.  It's days like this that make me stay inside and play SC4 or visit Web sites. 2.gif

They may not be wrong about the cold front. A "cold front" can often come through and not seem to make much of a difference at all. Sometimes you can have a very weak cold front that does not have enough energy to cool things down, and other times the front brings drier air rather than cooler air. A cold or warm front is generally just a boundary between 2 air masses that cools and or dries the air if it is potent enough.

17°C Humidity 68% Pressue 1019.6 mB (a slight high), overcast and cool.  Late August heading into September,

Forecase high 19, low overnight 9.  The heat wave of the summer is past, and we now are into cooler weather.  I may even have to close the screen door, which has been open (locked) all summer.

According to my phone, it's going to be 3C to 11C today. I doubt the apparent temperature will be getting much above, say, 6C.

There always seems to be at least a light drizzle around 4pm nowadays.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I Live in the UK - we had a few nice summer like days last week of June - then most of July it ended up cloudy (in fact turned out to be the dullest July since 1998) August hasnt faired much better with cloud, rain, heavy showers and now the nights are getting cooler. The summer has been miserable following the coldest winter in the UK for 30 years. Temperature today = 18 degrees celecius (65 fahrenheit) more of the same tommorw. Roll on September
