Work on the Liberte is almost done, however it is soooooo big that there are 5 different scenes that have to be merged together before the render, which my computer blows up everytime I try. 32.gif I checked for vertices and faces and I got 90,000 verticies and 104,000 faces on just 1 tower alone! There are 7, plus the foundation building so all in all about 1 million if not more. 6.gif I did some major geometrical adjustment on Tower5 and reduced the number down to 78,000 vert. and 88,000 faces, but I still need to reduce these numbers on all 7 towers.

I got some extra ideas for reducing file size, and polygon useage, tomorrow I'm going to impliment my new idea, and if successful I will make a short tutorial of it. As of now the file is too big to render with all scenes merged, I tried to save this scene and 3DS gave me an error and clunked out on me, though appartenly it saved a file, at 170megs! This proved inable to render as well getting hung up on 8% each time.

How much ram do you have and CPU power on your computer? 170 mg is huge. Perhaps you could find someone with a really powerful computer to render it?

Once kd5rax has his new 1337 machine, you could ask him. I think he wanted to get a monster PC soon (see Taipei 101 thread).

Meanwhile, why not fix up one or two towers (I don't know if they're any different) as regularly sized R$$ growables?

It's as good as finished. I only need to do the flora and nightlightning. I want to do inner nightlightning on it to avoid the problem the 2ifc and Harbouside have with black nightwindows. But I don't get them right and i'm still seeking good flora.

Ok Liberte is done! However I need to address some issues, 1st of all I gotta fix the nitelite here. Notice that they are too bright and they are bleeding out the textures. Looks like I need more lights around the big Pool Area as well.

    LiberteResult1.jpg

The rest of the buidling seems ok.
    LiberteResult2.jpg
This is just a test LOT so its not TEX enabled yet. Well see if T Wrecks has anything to do about it.
And another view, looking pretty good, I'p retty happy with the results, thouh I may add subtle sky texture to the windows, they look a little bland.

Word. That's why I wouldn't mind one or two of the towers on a generic base as individual standard-sized growables, tbh.

@bixel: That's just freaking awesome! 6.gif I agree with what you said about the night lights and the window textures, but all in all, that's a breathtaking BAT already. Transit-enabling shouldn't be a problem... it worked on the last lot where I tried it (SWT II), at least for the ploppable versions. Transit-enabled growables are a bit peculiar anyway, so even if those should turn out not to connect to the surrounding networks, there shouldn't be a problem. (Btw, did you get the file? I sent it to your mail addy last week. Just want to make sure it didn't get lost)

    -=EDIT=-
What size is the lot, btw? It's insanely huge! 17.gif Looks like 10x10 at least... 38.gif

Paul, get your setting for the multiplyer rating, hotspot/beam and falloff/field, I have been moving the numbers around but to no effect.22.gif

I think I may have fixed the nitelights, the glass windows need to be COMPLETELY redone becuase I accidentily Referenced them I get warning that no changes can be applied. So they will have to be completely replaced. I should have another render up in about 5 hours from this post.

I was just wondering what is the expected capacity of this LOT when complete and how that will effect cities in game. I could imagine that such a big LOT with so many residents could really upset the balance of even the biggest cities if the attributes of the LOT are not set correctly at the modding stage. I mean realistic levels of power, water and waste could cause the game engine to go wrong, and cities to fail. I know this is a matter that T Wrecks takes an active interest in too.

Hmmm... that might indeed become an issue. I suppose that in order to get this one to be comparable with other SC4 buildings, I'd have to give it 16,000 - 24,000 R

Great discussion guys....This type of residential project I JUST HAD TO do, just to see if I could do it! Realistically speaking this thing is like a very small city unto itself, I shouldn't think the RES capacity should be monumentally higher than the Sham Wan Towers, perhaps double that, but not any higher. I really do not think this unbalances the game, you really dont see high demand rating until you get past the 200,000+ anyway, so for a city of that size I could see this thing growing (semi-realistically).

I will do some smaller more SC4 compatible buildings, perhaps some more R$$ HK packs, but better, more real than the previous 2 that I just chucked out. Looking back I can see these could be improved on from this skills I learned from my more recent buildings. I really want to provide people with very realitsic HK buildings and for them to be fully satisfied that they have created and grown a great metropolis with a skyline much like Hong Kong.

When this gets modded by our superstar T Wrecks I'm sure he will have done all the neccesary testing with his buddies over in germany before submitting the LOTs to me. So this will definetly NOT grow in starter upper cities, in fact if we do some research I bet we can get this thing to grow only in certain circumstances, i.e. only grows when certain CO$$ jobs have been provided etc. But thats up to him, (srry T. haw haw haw).

I understand your apprehension though, I will do at least 2 big super structures because I promised to do them, the Sorrento and the Tung Cheung Garden, however because of the lay-out of these structures they will not be MEGA LOTS, instead 2 groups of 3x4 and 3x6, which by luck be grown combined or separate.

Afterward: There will be a notice when this gets uploaded. This is meant for mega cities only, if your doing a London CJ, Canada types, Latin America, (except Brazil) or the French quarter (I know there are plenty of lots and BATs of that style), then this is not for you. If you are doing NDEX, or Equinox, Superstar and HK then this is the ticket to cram your sims in economically. I know a lot of people are companing about SPACE, I want NDEX skyscrapers, but where do I put all my sims?

Ok windows are done, now I wait for a 3 hr render. It looks a-lot better. As far as huge super structures go there are several others such as SOMY's and some Newman stuff that is pretty big and offers huge amount of jobs, making a residential tower that offers a huge amount of capacity is along the same line. If you want small towns, dont download this! heheheheh.

Really? That kind of thing is hard to judge when there are no suitable reference buildings around, but I'm pretty optimistic that a building with 12,000 to 14,000 occupants can grow. In a healthy and big enough city, your R

New windows on the Liberte Complex look better, but nitelites still kinda crappy.

    LiberteResult5.jpg
I'll give this some more thought....I wont post any more pics of the nitelites just yet...after 5 renders, plus the fact that I have to hand insert each fsh file to the model directory is a bit of a pain. I will give this another day or so and decide if this is my final result. Meanwhile any suggestions? I am still willing to make some cosmetic changes at this stage so now is a good time for some input. 5.gif

Bixel, do you still have that black window problem in zoom 3?

I'm going to work on the nitewindows of pacific place soon but i'm gonna use the maxis nitelites instead of omnis and it would look bad if the whole complex had black nightlightning2.gif

Yeah...no nitewindows at Zoom3, Im considering opening up those script files and looking for any errors, my roomate and I just might be able to figure it out. Who knows maybe we can write a new BATforMax?, or he was thinking BATforBlender.

What are your specs for nitelite_Spots? I got mine at multplyer 0.5, hot beam 15 falloff 40 and it still bleeds out my textures. I dont know what kind of magic I casted on Manhattan Heights but the pool scene there was fantastic, I guess I'll just have to open it up and check.

Sometimes the speed of development in this thread makes me dizzy, and it's hard to sort out where to comment first and not to forget anything, especially with all those screenshots that make you jump up and down in your chair... 46.gif

Umm... ok. Let's start with Sham Wan II. It appears that this time the mail reached you - that's good. I'm glad you like the lots - I tried my best to cover up the blank wall parts as good as possible. Due to the LOD dimensions, I couldn't do very much to the front, but I think it's still acceptable. Now if you want to imagine that the LOD had been cut out on the base roof and it would be possible to add props up there... but still, I think v2 looks quite nice now. 40.gif

The new windows on the Liberte complex look great; somehow they make the overall colours a tad colder and take away a bit from that 'Miami Beachfront' look, which will make the final building a bit more universally usable.

The only suggestions I can think of would be to have a look at that flat grey part that faces the street; it looks a bit bland, although the actual building might just look like that. Otherwise, I'm too overwhelmed by this building to think of anything...

As for the script and the night windows problem, that's really great news. I hope you manage to get it right! 29.gif

Ok, so much for now... I gotta mod another Hong Kong building today, eh, paulvmontfort? 2.gif

LOL, you're actually quite right - I gotta admit I really don't like palm trees, at least not in SC4. 43.gif (I even installed Swamper77's No Palm Trees mod to get rid of them all...)

Well, but if there's interest in a version with palm trees, it's really a ten-minutes job to replace a few tree props with palms. So anybody, if you want palms, request it HERE and I may make yet another version... 2.gif (or learn to use the Lot Editor, hehehe... 3.gif )
