From what I just saw, I'm not impressed at all. Achievements, challenges, leaderboards, I'm NOT okay with that. The textures do need a lot of work actually, as does the modelling.

I'm not as much sad about the textures, and Internet crap of crap, as I'm sad with the over-all scale of the cities.

Look at this screenshot

NP00340145.jpg

and this one:

Multiplayer.png

See any difference in size?

I know it's a game, and it would be impossible to render the whole real city, but 100 houses and 20 skyscrapers just doesn't cut it for me to be honest.

Also another thing, Are regions confirmed yet?

Yes, regions are confirmed. There are articles scattered around the net about it.

The game isn't meant to be visually hyper realistic, nor in perfect scale. It's part of the artstyle.

And for the nth time: Modding was promised.

Calling all E3 attendees: check-in at our Official SimCity Demo booth and maybe you'll be mayor that night and take something home. Make sure you check into the Official SimCity Demo room.

That's sad. Hopefully it was an honest mistake. But thinking it's Origin-organized... Yeah...

Though either way, I bet many people would still watch the stream even if there was no promo code. I know I will.

edit: There's a promo code form for SimCity. Maybe it might still work..

Watching right now... and really hoping there's a promo code for SimCity 2013.

Here: Link

Well, in my opinion that was utterly disappointing. Their answers (especially because of the questions they answered) weren't very informative.

I agree, they were very uninformative.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

I had a polished list of questions. Not one got through.

I wonder who was moderating the chat...

Here's the promo code: ORIGINE3

Use at your own risk...

I wrote a couple of questions I considered to be informative, but none of them got through, either. They most likely avoided answering more technical and informative questions on purpose, knowing the whole thing was probably just an advertisment for Origin. EA loves money.

Well that certainly has the look and feel of a Sim City.

Anyone notice the nightlight "window interrior shader" in the videos? Subtle but powerful.

Really hoping that the online part doesn't ruin the fun, though.

Did anyone catch the answer to whether there will be a sandbox mode or not? (I see in the replay that the question is present in the chat - which I believe only has the answered questions.

Nevermind, I just watched the reply video, the developer didn't even answer the Sandbox mode question, he just talked about how great multiplayer and connectivity is. *sigh* Obviously not allowed to talk about. Still hoping this will eventually change.

@City_Builder - Seriously? Don't be so paranoid. I very much dislike EA too but worrying like that is a bit overboard. The game is an online multiplayer game. You pay the price for the game and you play it, and the game is a multiplayer game therefore you play a multiplayer game. CitiesXL was a single player game with an added optional multiplayer mode, if you paid the price, that was overly marketed.

The thing is with conventions they tend to avoid answering questions on items they haven't revealed or shown yet.

I'm still wondering wether or not multiplayer is free...they've been dodging around the answer though.

They've been dodging every question that has to do with offline mode and having freedoms on the game, because they know it won't satisfy the players.

That was just awful, didn't even attempt to give a board, scripted, answer....just went and ignored the question completely.

I was drawn here by the Trailer at E3. I guess i'm a few months late, but its great to see a new SimCity game. I still play SimCity 4 often and hope this new SimCity can top it.

Also, I love how the SimCity game for facebook directly insulted things like FarmVille. Nice touch. ;)

Welcome (back?) Nextel97!

---

Wow. Our first E3 is done. Today we spent our time meeting press, retailers and industry VIPs and showing them our game. We focused on the benefits of multiplayer in a connected world of Sim Cities. Featuring three very different cities each with their own specialty – tourism, industry and a newly formed city – our demo showed cooperative multiplayer gameplay where all the cities worked together to build a great work - an international airport.

http://www.simcity.com/en_US/blog/article/e3-2012-day-1-we-built-this-city

Really now, do we have a rep there?

So it seems you can play the game by yourself, or with friends, which I guess is good...

    Maxis' hands-off demo :

    ...

Going into the various utility options you’ll see where power is traveling and where you need to build additional infrastructure to meet the needs of your sims. Going into traffic monitoring you can see in real-time how adding light rail or bus stops to an area will alter the traffic. The overlays are not only very informative but they are simple to understand.

Upon looking at more screens, I am very concerned with the scale of cities. If I cannot build very large suburbs to my cities I will be very disappointed.

Also, has anyone seen true highways yet? I'm seeing some very large roads, but nothing resembling a highway with on ramps/off ramps.

You can most likely make your cities as large and sprawling or as small as you want. They probably made the scale of the cities so small in the screenshots to show off the graphics, different buildings, and the overall feel of the game.

The highway issue seriously worries me, though. I doubt they would remove highways, but not seeing any in any of the screens is troubling.

I believe there were highways shown both in the trailer video and in one screenshots released (at least ground level highways). Some had signage over the road (one said "Sim Nation" and another "Airport"). I think they just haven't added any interchanges or on/off ramps yet. I'm guessing it's something they're still working on. You could tell from the video and screenshots that the game is still very rough around the edges at this point.
