When I scanned the SC4Mapper uninstallation wizard with SUPERAntiSpyware, it showed up as a Trojen Horse, does anybody know why?

"SuperAntiSpyware"? Never heard of that program... Not sure if I would trust it. I have been using SC4Mapper for years without a virus. Where did you download it?

It's a false positive. I know the guy who created SC4Mapper pretty well, and I can assure you it's definitely not a virus.

I'd second AIX regarding the reliability of SUPERAntiSpyware. PC Magazine wasn't fond of it.

SUPERAntiSpyware is an anti-virus program if you didn't know. I was concerned to about it being a false detection. I heard PC Magazine didn't like SUPERAntiSpyware. I am probably going to try to switch to Malwarebytes. If you know what might of caused the detection, please tell me.

    Thanks!

Some others pose their products as "virus removers", but they were created to actually put virus in your computer.

    EDIT: I'm just warning you.

Well I did some searching and that Superantispyware looks like a valid

Program,However that is a false report, unless you downloaded mapper

    from a non trusted site.

I suggest you get Microsoft Security Essentials. I've been using it since it came out, and have never had one single problem with it. :)

I find that a lot of those "programs" pretty much give you false-positives to get you to buy the full product, and then do little to nothing to actually protect you.

PC Mag appears to have a fair bit of Vitrol for that program. Try something, anything else.

I use AVG, their editor's choice, but I've heard MSE isn't that bad either.

You need ESET antivirus. If you have a free antivirus progam , it have virus in it.

If you try to get out of the main stream of anti-virus products (Norton, McAfee, Microsoft), you takes your chances. I use the one offered by my Linux distributor that is backed by them.

Anything that is free in this line is suspect. When I was on windows I used McAfee because the college where I worked got it at a discount. I don't consider thirty bucks a year much of a charge.

    I can totally reccomend avg.

used it plenty of years (together with another freeware program and both pretty well added to another, can't remember tho) on my old system with barely anything big troubbling me. except myself that is, but thats on another piece of paper.

now I'm using avira professional - thanks, university, for the key - but the freeware version is pretty decent aswell. (behold the live scan, totally worthless and crippling your internets. but i think thats a paid option only)

I can only second what the moose said, dont get too far off mainstream in terms of protection... I mean, in real life you'd call the cops rather than neighborhood watch aswell, so...

I use Malwarebyet's a lot. I don't like AVG because it isn't compatible with Avast, which I have used forever. When I Scanned the uninstallation thing with Malwarebyte's, it did not show up as a virus. Same thing to with Spybot Search&Destroy, and Avast.

    But, I downloaded SC4Mapper from BSC Lex/Sc4devotion

Then it's fine. There's nothing at all to worry about, the LEX is perfectly safe. I suggest you get a more mainstream Anti Virus, it's just safer that way.

I never heard of SuperAntiSpyware before this thread. Honestly, judging by how it looks and the name, I thought it was one of the many fake anti-virus programs out there that actually infect your system.

Try Kaspersky, been running it for years without a single problem, I know it's a pain to have to pay for a program but there's something to be said about peace of mind not to mention the hassel of false positives. Just so you know, most of the free antivirus programs were written by the virus writers themselves, they want you think your protected by these false positives all the while keeping your system open to attack from the real threats, you may already be infected and not know it, even happend with me while running Norton.....

The only thing I don't like about Kaspersky, is the you have to uninstall Spybot Search& Destroy, which is something I always used. By the way, DON'T USE SECURITY ESSENTIALS! It almost destroyed my computer! And, thanks to all the feedback!

This is actually not true, Microsoft Security Essentials has worked very well for me, but I had to download a kapersky free remover thingy to remove a virus that was working it's way through the registry.

    P.S. Ma first post!

Microsoft Security Essentials did not have a problem since on my PC; are you referring to the rogue antivirus software that "faked" Microsoft Security Essentials? Information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Security_Essentials Jump to Rogue antivirus software

EDIT: Spybot Search& Destroy is a rogue antivirus software. Don't use it!

EDIT: Actually there was a clone for it. Sorry

I didn't download the rouge of Security Essentials. I downloaded the 64 bit version for my Windows 7. I think it might be like Norton; my uncle's computer died because Norton takes so many resources. I think that might be why.

Actually, the rouge clone of Spybot Search & Destroy is SpywareBot/Spywarestop.

The interesting thing is that Norton now owns McAfee, but they still are separate products. You can think of Norton as the Chevy, and a gas guzzler at that, and McAfee as the Cadillac. The college where I worked used it on the network and all work stations, no problems and quite transparent to usage.
