NAM already has a monorail-based high-speed rail plugin (HSR and GHSR). The tracks are grade-separated and fenced along their entire length. And the "fences" look like thick walls, so it looks more of a maglev system, rather than a TGV.

It comes separately to the NAM at the moment.

and there's always the Bullet Train Mod. Dunno where it went though, so don't ask me.

I don't think this is a good idea. Considered SC4 regions usually are few tens of kilometers only, it seems not comfortable to make a maglev network. Maglev trains travel at 500-600 kilometers per hour, each station has at least some hundreds of kilometers between each other.

The speed of each network is calibrated so that they're not too overpowering or unrealistic. Tampering with the 200kph speed limit for Monorail is just asking for trouble. IOW, you're never gonna get the right speeds without having to tamper with the traffic simulator's delicate balance.

This doesn't stop others from wanting Maglev-style train systems, which the High-Speed Rail mod pretty much closely achieves, and that's pretty much what people want, anyway.

I was not just considering the game but the realistic aspect of the thing. Like i've already said, these trains travel at very high speeds, and don't stop each suburb or minor city they touch. Take a look at japanese or future chinese maglev projects. Now, if you want the other maglev train, the one projected in Germany that goes at lower speeds and stops more frequently, that's another matter.

The only commercial extensive MagLev train line working right now is the one laid between Shanghai - Pudong airport and Pudong district in Shanghai, guess this is the realistic approach also in SC4. From the airport to the city center, or between two major transport hubs; only applied to situations where the super-fast moving o great masses of people is justified.

I thought Japan had Tokyo-Osaka line, the Shinanksen, or whatever it is named.

PS: Nevermind, it's experimental. The Shinkansen is standard railway (a very good one actually, i found the wikipedia article interesting).

I have plans to return to my ATEX mod with some Maglev during summer 8)

YEAH!! :D :D :D

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

Some considerations:

There are high speed MAGLEVs (none of the few commercial iterations present provide services in the range of 500-600 km/h) and there are low-speed MAGLEVs (there is a proposal for such a system in Puerto Rico--an interurban/commuter line line between the cities of Caguas and San Juan--this one is meant to go at 105 km/h = 65 mph).

There is also high speed railroad (this is real rail, as in concrete sleepers supporting two parallel steel rails to sustain the vehicles)--this one uses either electric motors or natural gas turbines to power interurban trains that can travel in the range of 200-350 km/h (China is still making adjustments to their new Beijing-Shanghai line to get 380 km/h safely). These trains are used in these countries (not sure if I have them all):

- Spain (Alta Velocidad Española-AVE)

- United Kingdom

- Germany (Inter-City Express-ISE)

- France (Tren à Grande Vitesse-TGV)

- Italy

- Sweeden (small extent)

- Greece (small extent)

- Finland (small extent)

- Russia (small extent)

- Norway (small extent)

- Japan (Shinkansen)

- China

- South Korea

- Taiwan

Now, something I don't get is why the big hatred towards monorail as a transport medium in SimCity 4; or at least that's what I've seen in Simtropolis. Sure, it's not considered seriously in the Western World, but it is in some other places (India, for instance, uses monorails as feeder lines for Metropolitan Train = Subway + Elevated Rail).

It would be nice to have a MagLev mod, even if it's just for the eye candy value.

...but there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide, electrified six car monorail!

Well, I totally understand the "hatred" towards monorail in these forums. The lack of a RL analogue seems to be the main reason: monorail in RL can only be considered as intra-airport transit, or used in some fair maybe, or at most (very) local transit in a small/confined area. And they are relatively slow and of limited capacity. Monorail systems exist in RL as a public tranist too, but are not widespread - nowhere close to subways, elevated rail (s-bahn) or especially rail and buses. The other reason is... aesthetics, I'm talking about those pylons. Quite disruptive, visually. And the rolling stock looks like a bullet-train.
