How can I make more commuters come to a certain region

Hi, I need some help with my city. How do I made the citizens of the city flock to the Central Business District? The problem I have is that most of the citizens use anything BUT the CBD (the area inside the red square).

Most of it is plopped, and all of the plops have a high job count (the CBD has around 100000 jobs). However, when I use the inquiry tool, it says that most of those buildings have almost no commuters whatsoever, if any. Even for the twin towers, there are only a few hundred pedestrians from nearby apartments, even when they have over 18000 jobs.

I paved the roads very well, put an extensive subway system there and the central railway station within walking distance of everything. There's even an underground rail line with an additional station and a transfer loop, and I constructed a highway. Yet nobody uses ANY of it (except a bit of the highway). Even the main road (the avenue in the centre) cuts right through it and it has absolutely no usage whatsoever (except for some crossing).

As you can see, there is high traffic everywhere in the city except the CBD. In fact, there's even a high amount of people commuting away from the city in general, even when there is already 1000000+ jobs in the city alone.

Also, despite heavy subway usage, traffic stops just as it enters the CBD.

What is wrong with my city, and how can I fix it? How can I draw more commuters into the CBD?

Thanks.

Sounds like pathfinding trouble. If you don't have the extra cheats dll, then download it and add it to your plugins without any subfolder (directly under the Plugins folder). Then use the draw paths command to see if you have pathing errors.

Use the right click method on this to get the command word right. CTRL+x <right click and pick the command> ENTER. This sometimes takes a while to completely show everything in a large city. If you are using NWM roads in your CBD, the problem may be that you did not lay down the transition pieces correctly.

(sorry about my english),

I do not know how to direct people to other places, but I think you can build highways and one-way streets in these areas and direct streets connecting neighborhoods.the use of mods avenues also help in these cases.

I have this same problem, and I do so that works. Another thing, what are the mods that you use in your city?

There doesn't seem to be any errors with the pathing. Just people don't want to come there for some reason. Sometimes buildings with more jobs get less commuters than the small shops with few jobs.

I use a grid system. All the roads are well maintained and I was irresponsible when plopping bus stations and such. Almost every road is high capacity (non-street) and has a bus stop on it.

It may be that you just don't have enough sims? They will take the jobs closest to them, so if you get more the inner part of your commercial city should get filled up since the outer ones are full already.

The region has over 10 million people. Maybe it's because I put too many commercial zones in other cities as well. Strangely enough they were successful.

Since you don't have much traffic in your CBD, the buildings won't have many customers, since customers are a function of road traffic. Without customers, the desirability of the buildings is low, and Sims won't go to work there. If you want to keep your current zoning, you'll need to grow your residential population until your unused buildings begin to look attractive. Once they start to get used, there will be more customer traffic, and you'll get a small positive feedback loop.

Here's the problem I see. Sims are not selective for jobs asside from the wealth factor. They will only commute as far as they need to until a building comes to the point where it can no longer hold any employees and then they will go one step further until they find a building that will. The buildings surrounding your CBD are taking the employees from your CBD as the sims commuting in the direction of your CBD only need to go THAT FAR to find work. You don't have enough residents to fill all of your commercial demand within that vincinity.

This is not true. Each job has education requirements as well as wealth requirements. Furthermore, the desirability of a lot plays an important role in deciding whether Sims will go to work there. Sims will happily travel farther to a lot with higher desirability to go to work and pass up lots with open jobs but lower desirability along the way.

Which is pretty much what I summarized in my exception of wealth factors. The desirability has a impact yes but they will still go to the closest job with the highest desirability. They do not seek specifics businesses or organizations to work for, they seek the closest job that meets their criteria meaning if all things are equal, the jobs on the outside of the CBD will be placed before the jobs inside the CBD.

Did you use CAM? If the CAM is not DATpacked into SimCity_1.dat, it creates excess C and I demand for jobs that don't really get filled.

Well If you people live in yhe outskirts of ypur city, most of them will commute to thier nieghbourong city. And there isnt much traffic in CBd eother a z1 said earlier, so the customers will be low.

OK, I've razed a significant portion of the CBD (including the two 1WTCs) and replaced them with medium commercial zones, which will gradually increase to high density, then have the original buildings plopped back. Then I razed several unused grown commercial buildings and replaced them with high-density residential. I'm making the city progress with decades (and I've set the current one as 1997 and the modern architecture doesn't blend very well with the 90's). Was that a good move or a bad one?
