I created this topic/poll, so people could express their feelings about Simcity 5 (2013). Also, so the makers of Simcity 5 (2013) can hopefully see what peoples feelings are.

Feel free to reply

Thanks.

First poll should be multiple choice.

I think it will be nice to be able to play multiplayer games with my friends, I really look forward to it. Can't see why it would be a problem?

Or maybe many in the US still uses dial up modems, if so then it would be a pain in the ass, and I'm happy I live in sweden instead wouldn't survive if I couldn't have a really high speed broadband.:)

Am I really the only one who wants online?

No, you're not the only one. EA wants online. ;)

Actually, I suspect that more people would be interested in online if it were a choice, and not forced on us along with the spyware called Origin.

^ this.

I voted for zones because tbh we know we are getting half these things, and the other options were just that, optional features.

I voted for landmarks because tbh I'd enjoy running over random Sims and holding up Simbanks some days. Why create a perfect city if you can't walk through it punching random people? But seriously, it does seem a shame one creates a great city and all one can do is query things and move ones position in it. I'd like the option of an interactive mode of some kind, but it's not an essential release date feature.

I agree that they shouldn't make it online.

There are only 4 people so far who want online.

I voted for a GTA-like UDI, but what I really want is a detailed vision of the city as if you were driving through it, and not getting out of the car to punch sims. I remember the SimCity 2000 in Playstation with that feature, although it was not so detailed; I would be thrilled to see my cities in SimCity 4 from that perspective. But what I really really want is a good choice on the buildings: some old european architecture would be great.

Online is going to be a dismal failure. Almost all communities are opposed to it, as far a I could read.

Agreed. Poll is now multiple choice. If you’ve already voted you may or may not have to delete your vote to get back the voting options… I’m not sure.

Did that, and yes you have to remove then revote.

Interesting that the big losers seem to be UDI and On-line.

I don't believe UDI belongs in the main game. As some kind of supplement, fine.

On-line is silly. If they want to run another "global market" task that wakes up occasionally and does an inventory, that's fine with me, but it need not be on-line.

I also strongly disagree with letting some vendor snoop around in my system to see what I have loaded from either itself or its competitors. This is an invasion of privacy and I won't stand for it. What ever gave them the idea that a home computer is different from one's home? You can maybe look in the windows, but you are not allowed to explore the rooms without a legal search warrant signed by a judge in my jurisdiction. This whole idea is a direct violation of Magna Carta and habeas corpus. They are not anyone's police force, and they are not in hot pursuit in any case. If I catch them in my machine, I will do whatever I can to arrest them on a citizen's warrant.

All though i am not thrilled about a online feature, i do recognize that it would be fun to play with friends. ( playing along side unknown people, who perhaps could be bored and annoyed teenagers does not sound appealing )

As for GTA UDI, i'd rather see a taxi or bus service where we as mayor could sit and enjoy our build city instead of focus on driving ourself and perhaps miss some of the nice views.

3D is a must for me, it adds so much to the cities detail. Would be a shame not to be able to tilt/rotate and max zoom anno 2012/2013.

Bat is perhaps THE most important feature, it kept SC4 running as long as it did and still is.

I think both online, multiplayer and udi are in theory good additions but I agree with the sentiment that they are not necessary elements of the release version, nor are they high priority. I also agree with Nonny Moose regarding privacy, for while I'm no criminal mafia member, I do use my pc for job seaching and so forth and sending and receiving emails from friends. So while there's nothing sensitive on my pc I still think as a matter of principle it isn't quite wholesome to be able to look at someones pc contents without their permission.

I think a lot of the negativity regarding multiplayer and online relates to enforced MP and O/L. Naturally I'd rather it was an option. The global market unfortunately makes it difficult as an option unless we create a separate planet for our own cities and can join other planets or allow players to join our planets by advertising our planets? EA could still handle the server, and that would prevent some griefing.

UDI is obviously optional and a mode within the game, so any negativity there I think stems from it's drawing developers time and skills away from more integral functions of the simulation.

Online is the future I believe, but the concerns regarding the EULA should be investigated. Also some people such as myself have broadband wifi which costs a wee bit more than a standard dial up connection did back in the good old days.

I agree, except that if UDI does not delay the release date, then i would highly reccomend them adding UDI as a feature.

GTA style U-Drive-It should be in a Streets of SimCity style standalone expansion pack or tie in game. I would like a free online mode.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I can't vote in this poll properly; ideally I would like the game to have all the items listed.

I added a "Nothing" option on both of the questions.

Judging from the results here, a large chunk of the fan base aren't so keen on the online feature. Maxis/EA might want to reconsider the whole 'integrated online' thing, or at least make it optional.

It isn't the online that a lot of people don't like, it's that it has to be used through Origin.

For the on-line, the vote is now over 50% negative. The reason is the Origin snoopware.

I have changed my vote to no offline, but only because of Origin. I like the online features, I just don't like Origin.

Of course if Origin received enough backlash EA would just switch to Steam, which wouldn't make much difference. All these programs could be in theory used as 'snoopware'.

What I'd like to see: 3D (At least to SCS standards), Zones, Landmarks, Online if there's offline, and support for BAT even if the tool isn't released for a year or two. There's not really anything there I hate; UDI would be a great addition in any expansion pack (or all of them), and war sounds like a perfect idea for an expansion pack as a whole.

The ability to play offline is important.

I can just imagine having "that map with the perfect spot" completely ruined by a neighbor building his industrial complex next door, or perhaps my own industry ruin their ideal culdesac simply because I didn't realize the plans they had.

The ability to play online is also important.

The need to plan ahead alongside another human being could be a fun experience, especially with a friend, or even a friendly rival.

All in all, the ability to choose is a fundamental atribute in any simulation game.
