Those of you who are apprehensive or negative about SimCity

I agree with you a lot. No one seems to remember that Tilted Mills made SimCity Societies, not Maxis. I'd like to know the last time Maxis made a bad SimCity game. Everyone begs for a new SimCity, yet when it's announced a bunch of people are negative about it. I understand that it may not be good when it's released, but at least wait to judge it until actual game play clips are released of it. A lot of people are really jumping the gun, and the people who say "SimCity Societies 2" anger me a bit. Give the game a chance. Jeez.

I was really upset at first, too, going so far as to say something like "the love child of CXL and SimCity Societies", but now I've mellowed out a bit with some of the later announcements and now rather hopeful about the future. It definitely looks to be way better than SCS. :golly:

Not to say that all my fears and worries about SC2013 are gone, however, but I've definitely warmed up to the idea since earlier this week.

100% agree, the kneejerking is out of hand. We may be on edge and skeptical after the Societies and Cities XL debacle, but I personally have faith in Maxis. Every Sim City they have made has turned out to be absolute gold and a vast improvement on the last... and even though I'm not expecting something better than SC4, i'm at least expecting something on par with it. The Multiplayer aspect doesn't worry me at all, it might turn out to be fun (more fun than the PO at least) and hopefully any of the MP aspects leaking into solo mode will have a limited impact.

We are not judging the game! We're just showing our ideas for having the game we always look forward.

Best complain now and have a chance to be heard, than they launch a game that pleases few, or at least only those who are not fans of the series.

There is nothing wrong with that! Stop complaining about it.

Personally i'm just scarred after what happened with Cities XL. I like what i see so far with this new Sim City but the warning bells are still ringning regarding the single player/multi player aspect. They need to ensure us that single player truly are single player/offline and that we will have all the features available. If they could only do that i would be more than excited!

Never liked Spore, and that was Maxis. Partly because Spore was really trying to go for Sims players.

My first reaction when I heard the good news was sort of numb. Like, for five years all I've heard and seen has told me 'Is SC5 gonna happen?' 'NO'. And then out of the blue BAM and it's happening after all. So, naturally it would be difficult to explain my initial thoughts regarding this news. It's like if a religious person was to hear a scientist say 'God definitely doesn't exist ppl' and then all of a sudden their God appears out of nowhere and acts as if he was never fictional. It's like for so long I've been Darian regarding sc5 that it's hard to know how to feel or think when all of a sudden it turns out it is going to exist after all.

After reading the initial reports etc I was a bit apprehensive I have to admit. I mean imagine if 5 was made and after all that hype and jazz it turned out to be another societies/xl. That would just be the limit I think for many of us. But after reading Maxis' response at Reddit I have to say that if they live up to what they're saying to us now, it should be a worthwhile game. And if they listen to our feedback to the extent they are making it out that they are then I can say I am truly hopefuly regarding this game, and the future of SC/city sim games in general.

So atm I am cautiously optimistic, I wish Maxis good luck and hope for all of our sakes it will be a success. I think as long as they develop the core skeleton properly, the options, features, additions etc can wait. I've been waiting as long as anybody for cycle trails, double decker buses and diagonal bridges but imho what really matters is building that strong core around which to expand.

As to the MP issue from what they've said that doesn't worry me, what does is the resources simulation. Realistic- yes. But I think the 'nation' or 'simnation' wtvr economy should be optional, and regions shoul be able to have a national resource economy as well as an intraregional resource economy.

Equating SimCity (5) naysayers to atheists? Um, sure, but this SimCity was NOT in anyone's mind during the dark days of the last several years.

A Greek wisdom for those who made conclusions from air:

We didn't saw him yet, but we name him John (Ακόμη δεν τον είδαμε, Γιάννη τόνε βαφτίσαμε) :P

Keep it cool folks :)

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

"Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible." - Frank Zappa

"The wisest men follow their own direction." - Euripides

I totally agree with this post. I've been watching the Diablo 3 forums because I'm a big fan of that game... and it disgusts me to see all the hostility, criticism, and outright whining. The one thing that I've loved about Simtropolis is that I always thought it was full of optimistic, self-fulfilling, motivated, and mature people. This news about the new Simcity game has made me wonder if I was wrong to think that. Lately I've seen this particular board for Simcity (2013) turn into every other game forum.

I think people here need to accept that Maxis will present us with a game, and we will make of it what we will. If the game turns out to be lacking, then we'll make it better. If the game turns out to be incredible, we'll still make it better. Let's not turn into every other game forum and start the negative criticism train. This website is supposed to be better than that.

As it does a lot of people. Frankly it gets old really quickly.

The one thing that I've loved about Simtropolis is that I always thought it was full of optimistic, self-fulfilling, motivated, and mature people.

We are, or at least we try to be, unfortunately there are always a small minority of vocal members on a forum who just don't seem capable of having anything nice or positive to say.

This news about the new Simcity game has made me wonder if I was wrong to think that. Lately I've seen this particular board for Simcity (2013) turn into every other game forum.

Rest assured that Simtropolis always has been and always will be a moderated site. If we see stuff that crosses the line into outright unnecessary rudeness and hostility, the staff will deal with it. If a member sees something that needs attention, then as always please PM a moderator directly or use the report button. That is what it is there for.

This website is better than that. If people want somewhere where they can say what they like, to whoever they like, in whatever way they like, then they should go to a website that allows exactly that. For example - Youtube.

That website however is not Simtropolis.

After reading the discussion on Reddit, I feel a lot more comfortable and excited for the new SimCity. The thing I feared most was Maxis making it strictly multiplayer only, but now that Maxis developers cleared that up, and reassuring the community there will be offline mode, I am confident they will deliver.

Good Points.

So I guess you guys won't mind me ruining your futuristic vistas with a dirty polluting metropolis then?

Joking Aside, I think that people are overreacting to the whole "love child of Simcity Societies and CXL thing". And Honestly, I was excited because Maxis have made very good Simcity games before, and this one should be the best they've ever made. And to all those that think it will be crap without Will Wright. He didn't work on Simcity 4 so much, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SimCity_4 As the Wikipedia Article states, Simcity 4 was designed by Joseph Knight and Micheal McCormick. And Look at how this game turned out on Release. It's loved to bits years later.

This game will still have the magic, and 2x2 Km is a bad descion in that we can't create metropolises quickly, but good in that we can be forced to be creative. So if the 2x2 tile is at the foot of a mountain, maybe it will a good idea to build a hillside neighbour hood.

Despite a few design changes, this is Simcity in it's true form, you have every right to be cautious, after all, this is Simcity We're talking about, Not CXL. At this moment the Day One DLC is putting me off. I will not buy Simcity, I will not attain a copy of the game, if the DLC gives the children who have parents with deep wallets a high score on the leaderboards and doesn't give the rest of us an equal chance to get to the top first. Buying power in Video Games, whether it be a Single Player City Builder or an Online Multiplayer 50-a-side Big Explodey Shooter, is WRONG. I Refuse to buy Simcity if EA decide to allow Power Buying.

I will probably buy it as long as at the time of release it looks better than 4/cxl to the extent that would make buying it worthwhile. Also it's about the only video game I will buy in the forseeable future I should think so. I am cautiously optimistic.
