Windows 8 has a lot of problems :)

Just glad the mod is out there :D I actually downloaded it. Said I wouldn't but I did. I couldn't resist.

Well .. this is so fantastic that even tried to publish it as news on the home page.

"New mod lets you get up to 50% more space in your cities".

Now it remains hope that is published and will certainly come thousands of new downloads to add to the nearly three thousand in two days.

Maybe it was time to make a new thread for discussion and explanation of the mod as is usual appear in description of the mods since in this case unfortunately there is no thread quoted.

After all something that is cited by some as " the holy grail of all mods" deserves own thread, you guys do not agree?

Well, I'm kinda miffed. For those of us who are not allowed to download mods, we are officially screwed. Now, with the mod out, Maxis will forget making the official bigger maps patch. I'm not saying that this mod is bad. I think that all the modders who participated in Project Orion are pretty much lords now, and that they deserve it. Also, I can not express with words how much pride I feel, and I feel that this great game is going to get a whole lot better. This is a huge step for the SimCity community. Now, SimCity will pick up much progress.

I remember one of the lead designers of the game said it might eventually support bigger maps, once the average PC becomes more "powerful". He went onto say that at this point it's just not feasible. I'm not whining or anything, I know there's a mod for a slightly bigger map area, but it's filled with all sorts of bugs and the roads break apart. I was kind of hoping that someone or some team maybe 2 years from now or in 2017 will be able to release a stabilized version for bigger map areas?

I'm still bummed out that Maxis chose to make the game this way...almost like they wanted to kill the franchise. I know everyone just tries to ignore it and cope with it; well maybe not everyone but most people. .

But now i sound whiny =\.

But at what point does "big" become "big enough"? 2K, 3K, 10K, 20K? In the end there will still be a small portion of the community saying "we want bigger cities, did YYYY company intend to ruin this franchise"? Limits are limits and people will never stop complaining about them.

Even now, when a 1K city starts to get maxed out the city becomes very difficult to manage. What's the point of more space when you can't control & manage a smaller place?

Except they flat out lied when they said PCs couldn't handle larger cities. Things break down when population gets larger because the engine/simulation is not scalable. And back when SC4 was new, Maxis certainly didn't design by what a Celeron could run. Because I remmeber my computer could only play the game at a few frames per second. Then once I built a new PC all was good.

I sort of undersdtand what they tried to do with SC 2013, but they weren't given anywhere near enough time. And it really shows with the poor population scaling. It's almost like they had to throw in some very simple and poorly tested factors in the end and just release it.

They never said that. Maxis said "Many player's computers wouldn't handle larger tile sizes". There's a difference. In fact when you see notes from people who are modding the larger tile sizes even they comment your system may lag as city sizes expand.

Simcity isn't a game that appeals to hard core, top of the line gaming machine players. It's played by average, middle of the road gamer's and while top machines could probably handle larger tile sizes, many Simcity players machines couldn't handle the load. So, Maxis would have to increase their minimum specs. If you see the current specs they are rather low compared to today's AAA titles and while it can be argued that a smaller player base would have made a happier player base then you'd see complaints like "why should I buy a better machine just to play a game like Simcity...". Maxis would swap 1 complaint for a different one.

In the end, how big is big enough?

Your defense of the tile size is laughable. It's not a matter of greedy gamers  wanting more and more, it's a matter of getting nothing for nearly a decade and then getting unimaginably less. They shouldn't have designed such a limiting engine in the first place and in reality there was no need as the glassbox engine is basically an overly complicated stats generator itself.

How big is enough? Well a simcity title that doesn't allow me to build anything geographically bigger than the 800 pipulation 4km/sq village I grew up in is a total abomination of a game!

While I hate the map size, I think of them as Urban Growth Boundaries, which the ones in my town were just expanded. That's not to say I don't have Project Orion on my other laptop, but it's so buggy, and just not the same as an offical patch, not to discredit the modders though.

If you're waiting for that, you may as well just play Skylines. It might be better, it might be worse, but I think you're missing out on this game

The point just prior to the moment your city begins to run intolerably slow.  That point will be both arbitrary and different for each person/computer.  And that's the whole point.  The maximum city size should have been a configurable option from the start.

I tried the mod and ran across an odd problem.  While it moved the border markers out, the editable area remained the same.  Thus, I simply had a frame of land all around my city in which I could not place anything.  I was wondering if it was just me.  Apparently, the mod is not quite ready for prime time just yet.  I look forward to future Orion Project updates.

I recommend everyone try it.  If it works for you, great.  If not, then restoring your game is as simple as renaming or deleting the file.  Couldn't be more simple.

Does the city size still suck in sim city?

Sadly, yes. EA is not going to increase the sizes of the city plots and it made me upset upon hearing that. I've stopped playing the game 2 years ago because it was not what I hoped for, just like everybody else. Don't think about buying the game if you haven't already because it is not worth it.

I can work with the small plot size, and I've never thought that I would need more space.

i think it is worth it, because this version of simcity is expanding city vertically, not horizontally

and the system is pretty complicated imo
