I'm working on an extensive wishlist using Google Docs which will be submitted to Maxis at some point. If you have a Google Account, you can add to it! I've already got another person working on it, and it would be great to have more :golly:

I would like to see:

- more than just city building (ie. resources like coal, oil, precious metals/stones)

-weather!!!!!!!!! not just tornadoes and earthquakes, hurricanes, regular rain, snow, blizzards, sand storms

-climates! desert, tundra tropical etc.

-road styles (euro, north american, british/hong kong, and dirst roads)

-like CitiesXL and SimCity 4 to some degree building styles ultra modern, retro modern (jetsons and 50's style futuristic)

-parks must have preset and customizable ones

TRANSPORTATION

1) The normal stations could be differentiated, some could have two buildings and two or four lines or only one. The same with the subway or elevated rail.

2) There are different types of trains. Could differentiate themselves: local, suburban, regional, national, high speed, freight, heavy. And adding the light rail, tram, funicular, and monorail. They could establish exclusive lines or for general use.

3) In many ways Europe's railways are from the state or town, like in Sim City. But coul be nice to have private companies. In this case, the company would ask the mayor to authorize the construction of stations and lines.

4) In fact the curves and bridges may have different heights, with highs in the middle to the ships pass.

5) bridges with more than one tray.

6) Bridges mixed cars and trains.

7) Pedestrian Bridges

8) Pedestrian streets

9) Overpasses, independent of the terrain

10) Crossing bridges and viaducts, as there are different heights.

11) Rural roads

12) curved roads.

13) avenues can have more than two lanes for each side, as motorways.

14) Stairs, normal, monumental and automatic / walkways.

15) Lifts (Lisbon and Almada have that public and monumental transportation, linking down street to top of the hill)

16) Do not be necessary mountains to build tunnels

17) To make visible the outline of the ways and underground transport.

18) Plop lights. A small town does not need to have traffic lights and costs. This will lead to safety and health in the city.

19) Create a transit zone conditioning, limiting car traffic.

TERRITORY

Cities and regions have different sizes, such as the countries ...

1) Why not allow to create the shape and size of the city in the region, other than the present mode of square?

2) Why cities can not grow or join with others?

3) Why can not multiple regions? creating a country

4) Different levels of basement: the sea is 0, but the mountain is 100. Under the mountain, or under the ground in general, can be constructed. The subway does not run on the same level of the tunnel road, car park or utility conduits.

5) Set level for water pipes, electricity, gas, telecommunications, sewage

6) Create an emergency and secret tunnels ... in case of revolution or war, the mayor can escape.

EVENTS

1) Olympic Games – 1 time a century

3) World or international fair - the Eiffel Tower was built in – Lisbon had one in 1998

4) World Championships (soccer)

5) Speedway and Formula 1

6) Different stadiums for different teams (in Lisbon are three main teams - mine, unfortunatly, is now second in the league - but there are others in the city and in the metropolitan area)

7) On the day of games between teams of the city (derby) there may be riots in the street or party or both before and after the game

8) carnival or a festival of the city, as the beer festival in Munich.

ECONOMY

Many cities have activities that are emblematic and the economic engine: Seattle in Boeing, Airbus in Toulouse, Atlanta-based Coca Cola ...

1) Why not set up businesses that attract other companies, creating a complex economy

2) Many cities have their source of income in natural resources such as mines or oil explotations. If there is a specific natural resource companies will multiply this sector, but in case of crisis the city could collapse.

3) achieve coherence between agriculture and industry. A city can have both activities.

4) Differentiate between agriculture between levels of development from a more friendly environment to a more intensive.

5) Creating a forestry activity. In Sim City 4 forests are not exploited and are not parks.Can be managed with different levels of operation, and forest recreation.

GENERIC

1) I think very important is the question of proportions. In Sim City 4 underground stations have the same size as the bus stops. An airport in Sim City 4 is a dwarf, to have a credible airport is almost no area to build. How many meters is a square in Sim City?

2) U drive it - please not! It's terrible!

3) Newspapers, radio and tv.

4) petitioners

5) Allow to be created new buildings, props and mods

6) Allow all buildings are ploppables

7) Autosave and save multiple - Sometimes it happens wrong

8) I think it would be nice to extend the number of features that you can drag. Not only the streets, roads, avenues, highways, trains, metro ... but also pedestrian streets, roads, pedestrian bridges, tram, funicular railways, urban elevators, escalators, urban, urban stairs, monumental stairs, waterways, ports , airports ... in terms of defining the area as well as residential, commercial, and industrial trash, I think that cemeteries can be added ... after all, people are always dying L ... and why not some buildings? A seat of government, for example. In terms of building could also be in time ... perhaps to dream ;-)

9) multipurpose buildings, buildings for housing, commerce and services

10) Desable tragedies. UFOs and dinosaurs? No thank’s ... but is it possible war, riots, floods, tsunami, earthquake ...

11) Use of hydroelectric dams.

12) aqueducts to bring water to the city

DREAMING

European cities are very old, some over 2000 years, such as Lisbon. Each era has its architectural period.

1) Create clusters 'irrational' and chaotic, as in medieval areas.

2) What if ... you can play from the 10th century?!! First Romanesque, later Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, neo-classical, romantic, art nouveau, art deco, modernism and contemporary movements - ok, I must be dreaming!!

3) They could build up areas and not just historical buildings.

4) Do you remember the Yes Farm? today it Seems very basic, but was quite interesting. Do you remember the "hand" pick and grab objects and carrying Them to another location? Why not in Simi City 5? Sometimes there is a slight mistake in the placement of the building ... help a lot!

5) I was born, live and work in Lisbon, Portugal's capital. It is a beautiful city and tourist (you should visit it). The city itself is not great, but it is the center of a metropolitan area with 2.8 million inhabitants. I would like to see some monuments in Sim City 5

1. Canals

2. Better Ecomony then SC4

3. Cars are realistic, they don't just dissapear.

4. Combineing reagions into one city.

5. Singleplayer.

6. Multiplayer.

7. No DRM. (Having to be online is okay with me, but Its annoying)

6. Having difficultys. (ANd making Easy an actulal easy mode, not a hardcore mode in disguise)

8. Ways to reduce pollution.

9. Different types of roads. (Dirt, Asphalt, ECT)

10. Zones have roads pre-built but pre-built roads hsould eb able to be toggled off with somthing like the CRTL key.

11. ECT (More to come)

18) Plop lights. A small town does not need to have traffic lights and costs. This will lead to safety and health in the city.

It would be extremely inconvenient if we had to plop every light. An option to remove lights we didn't want would be better. If lights were removed, crime would increase and the desirability of the area would go down.

2) U drive it - please not! It's terrible!

I wouldn't mid if UDI was released as DLC.

5) Allow to be created new buildings, props and mods

Maxis has stated that custom content tools will be released after the game.

3. Cars are realistic, they don't just dissapear.

The new Glassbox engine will eliminate this annoying "bug." There is a thread for it pinned in the forum if you want to read about it.

The most important nothing for me, if nothing else is the flexibility of roads and highways. SC4, even with the NAM and RHW (as great as they were) was still very limiting on my imagination. Flexibility is the key to making the most of roads in SC5, so that we can make stuff like this:

In my dreams, I would love to see a historical model which accurately reflects how cities actually developed. That way you could have a realistic mix of old antique buildings with modern skyscrapers, and be forced to make difficult redevelopment decisions.

For example:

Year 1800 - Only walking, horses, and water transportation. Cities are very high density and crowded around ports. Economy is mostly agricultural.

Year 1850 - Railroads appear, along with heavy industry. You can now have a spread-out network of smaller towns.

Year 1900 - Subways and trams. Skyscrapers and large apartment blocks become possible. You can now start building a large city.

Year 1950 - Freeways & low-density suburbia is now available. Spread out people across all those farmlands, destroy the port district and build gigantic skyscrapers downtown

Year 2000 - Oil crisis! Start rebuilding those transit networks and increase density. Build a 'green city'. Attract tourists.

And so forth...

You should try free game called Simutrans. It's not city building game but it has most of the things you wished.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but, I would like to be able to see cities beyond the borders in my region. That would make it much more realistic and would be great for CJs.

What if for administrative purposes the neighbouring tiles were grayscale snapshots, but in a post card/camera mode one could see them normally?

I would like to be able to have below sea level land fenced off by the geography or sea-walls. There has been some urging in SC4 to find a way to build Dutch polders (farmland below sea level protected by dikes).

Yes, yes, yes! I lived a bit in northern Washington State (a place that has a similar climate and appearance as Holland) that had tons of farmlands that were at or a few feet below sea level. Dikes were common. I did come close to approximating the effect in SC4 using the ground raising lots and the extra rain tool, but the results were meh.

I would like to see an option to "Download Region" from Google maps ( maybe a partnership with Google to allow this or something, not sure if there is an option in the Google Maps APIs which allows getting some info on terrain,etc....)

This would be great, as modders cant make all regions in the world! And this option will allow casual players to get the region they want.

On top of that, if a region was downloaded from Google ( or any other service ), the weather condition could be set to that particular region (real time), and also i would like to have seasons ( winter,fall,etc) and plan a city based on that... As an example, having services such like salt truck for winter time!

And no doubt more tools for mods! All guys here have done an excellent job!

Thats it

1. Again a great modding community

2. Possibilty of walking in 1st person would be great because you can see your city in a way different perspective.

:) It would be great!

AS i started using mods for the first time, i was looking forward to find a "better" way to learn how to use them at all, right now i feel kind of frustrated as i am having a hard time with NAM. Being said that, I would like to add 2 more to my wishlist,these may be a great feature for modders (at least to NAM or similar scale) and of course for a better user friendly navigation.

  • Add the ability to create / add tutorials, yes just like those made by Maxis and you can play in the "default" region. I mean, i WOULD LOVE to have a guided tutorial in game for mods.
  • Also, sub menus / categories on the top menu or inside them. I have downloaded lots ob BAT, MODS, etc... and it's a pain to have them all inside the "Parks" menu, or "Landmarks". So the idea is to allow modders to create sub menus within the main menus... i imagine something like "Transportation Tools -> SAM", "Transportation Tools -> NHW" and so on..

Sorry if any of those where mentioned before..

Cheers!

Repitition in this thread is not actually a bad thing... if the developers are reading our threads then if they see lots of people asking / wishing for the same thing, then that will lend it more weight.

So anyway flowing water is a definite essential must. Waterfalls, dams, canals, docks instead of rectangular blocks that have the nerve to call themselves ports etc. I want fishing as an industry. I want creeks that dry up or at least reach high altitudes. I want rock pools and fresh water lakes, lagoons, the Thames. Basically if water can be simulated naturally, let's have proper floods and flowing rivers. Ferries should remain an option. Just last month I took the Manly ferry from Sydney.

I'm quite enthusiastic about this suggestion, however I assume repetition refers to various posters, so I'll just stress the importance I place on realistically flowing water. Real waves, currents etc.

If there is a tutorial region, only the tutorials should be runnable there. A new city should not be able to be opened. A copy of the tutorial landscape as another delivered region would be better. Playing on the present Timbuktu is fraught with danger.

No DLC. Please, if you want to release post-release stuff, bundle it all together in an expansion pack, just for sanity and not having to keep track of what essentially is a broken game.

First thing on my wish list, outweighs everything else on my wish list:

#1 Listen to the community!

Zoning:

Multi purpose zoning.

Shops with residential

Industrial with commercial

Manufacturers with shops

and so on.

Option to choose architecture

Do you wish that your just assigned just going to be a certain type of row homes, then you should have that option.

Cities looks silly when they have a wild range of architecture.

add feature that randomly generate stuff around the house.

In real life neighborhoods not everyone has the same backyard, some have a nice garden, some just grass only and so on.

Realistic shopping area's.

Normally shopping area's that are not Malls, do not necessarily have to be on the street side

Not every single shop has to have its own parking lot.

At least where i live ( the Netherlands ) most shopping area's are pedestrian only ( with exclusion for delivery trucks )

Adding a nearby parking lot, provides for people to get there by car. Would love to see a construction of a underground parking lot and having a shopping area constructed on top of it.

Building should last at least 30 years or more. Zones just shouldn't rebuild just because theres a demand for it.

real construction sites, once they order has been given to start developing a zone, at least 6 months ( game time ) should pass before a building is finished.

Wealth classes:

One thing annoyed me greatly in CXL, was the fact that every member of society had to live in a certain type of zone ...... forever...

On top of that, the rich part of town that basically already had everything also had the benefit of nearby schools, medical, law enforcement etc.

While to unskilled apparently didn't need stuff like that.

In real life, of course certain types of homes can only be afforded by people with a better job ( more money )

BUT! a neighborhood usually develops like that over time. If city planning lacks proper schools nearby for example, house prices eventually go down.

Also the separation of wealth classes is less dramatic then it was in CXL. Nobody gets paid approximately the same as everyone else in the neighborhood.

Generic:

Feature to make canals

Feature to make custom parks

Option to choose which year you want to start a city/region

For now this is what i can come up with that has been missing in previous city builder or hasn't been mentioned a few times already in this thread.

Edit:

There will have to be a lot of buildings, and i mean a WHOLE lot.

I read a post just then mentioning 'vertical zone dragging'. I realised there was a simple solution to the issue of density being so abstract.

Say you zone a rectangular area to simplify things. Then you click again and drag upwards, by increments of a metre, or a storey, and it displays what increment in the zone, and this allows developments only to that height and no further.

Height limits are very real entities of course in RL cities. Of course floor space and mixed zoninmg would have to be handled in some way as well but just an idea.

I came up with a simple transit model, related to average speed and cars per minute. It's divided into lanes, so it's not averaging into the other lanes.

Say you've got a highway. The speed limit is set (you set it ) at 60 MPH (96.5 KM/H), a standard American highway speed.

It's empty, and cars are zipping by, so the cars per minute is low, and average speed is still 60. But when there's higher traffic, the cars per minute drops and the average speed drops. This indicates major traffic jams, where traffic starts moving like a long longitudinal wave, compressing and slowly moving.

This builds up stress when traveling. But what if you want to avoid highways? Stress is usually increased by transit exchange, and there's an occasional stress increase when people miss the train or bus. After a certain point, people become aggressive on the roads (see all major US cities) and everything generally gets worse.

I read through many of the posts and hope many of the good suggestions come to pass in SC5. Some of the minor things I would like to see are:

All Mayor menus in the same order. If "Crime" is second on one menu, then please make it second on any others.

Please don't keep throwing pop-up windows at me faster than I can click on them and don't require I respond to them IMMEDIATELY before I finish what I'm doing at the moment. Perhaps there could be a flashing "Critical" or "Emergency" box in the corner or something for those things needing immediate attention such as water or power etc.

I would also like to see the cursor default to the query tool (?) in order to save a lot of clicks. Maybe even have a right click function tied to the current tool selection. For example, If I place a subway stop it would be convenient to just right click in order to get the rail laying tool.

My main wish is that the game is still recognizable as being SIM CITY! :)

I want and expect the following at release:

  1. Utilities
    * Electricity
    * Water
    * Garbage
    * Fuel
    * Sewage and/or recycling having special plants that cannot handle all garbage but are more effective than landfills for their category
  2. Pollution
    * Air pollution
    * Water pollution
    * Open Garbage
    * Acid Soil
    * Noise Pollution
  3. Zoning
    * Low, middle, high, ultra/exceptional density zoning
    * Residential
    * Offices
    * Shops, leisure, and/or hotels
    * Industrial/factories
    * Agriculture
  4. Resources
    * Trees
    * Ground fertility
    * Water
    * Petroleum
    * Coal
    * Metals
  5. Economy
    * Tax rates separate for 4 wealth levels of residential, at least 2 wealth levels of offices, at least 3 wealth levels of shops and/or leisure, on heavy/dirty/processing industry, manufacturing industry, high tech industry, and agriculture
    * Supply and demand for jobs, employees, resources, industrial products, food, and finished goods
  6. Single player
    * No paid subscription
    * No need to "play with friends" in your region/city
  7. Transportation
    * Arterial roads, residential side streets, one-way roads, 4-lane (total) avenues (2x2, 1x3, 4 lanes each way), divided avenues (that can be turned into 5-lane avenues, street-side parking, expressways, small dirt farm roads, large dirt roads, large paved/gravel farm roads
    * Freeways, limited access high speed freeways with 2-6 lanes each way, even divided (like the RHW), with custom interchanges (like CXL and RHW/RHM), logical premade interchanges, and seamless turns and transitions used by agents without stopping
    * Commuter rail, freight trains, first class vacation trains, subway/GLR/metro/raised rail, high speed rail, monorail, bus
    * Passenger ferries, car ferries, water taxis, working tourist cruise ship ports, seaports, commuter airports, rural airstrips, international airports, luxury/leisure/industry airports, helipads

I fully expect all of these to be in the new SimCity because these have already been done by Anno 2070 and Cities XL to a certain extent. I do not demand these though I will be less likely to buy if these are missing and I will certainly buy if all of these are present properly.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I wish I could delegate certain things to certain agencies and whatnot, or however you say it. Like roads. I'm not going to personally be designing that stuff if I were mayor, though I would have to raise taxes for that and balance the budget accordingly; make sure the road relieves traffic congestion from other roads; and actually have some control over the direction. I didn't go to school to learn when a road should be banked or not. Let those who went to school decide that stuff, and let me decide who gets to decide that stuff.

It's like zoning, just taken to the next level. Maybe zone an area where the delegate could build his road. I could even fire him for not finishing up fast enough and get a new guy... and an entirely new road! I like the idea of zoning parks, too. I have to approve of their designs, though, but I'm sure I'd like most.

Schools should handled by the presidents and a school distric board committee thing.

I really like algorithms. Get it?
