My review is actually on Wednesday, but I wanted to get the file ready to be printed at the media center today so that it would definitely be ready for tomorrow.  I'm already too into the day to go to bed right now, but I'll definitely be going to bed early tonight.  3.gif

My thumb drive has the file to print, and also this new building, on it, so it is at the Media Center.  I won't be able to work on this today, but I have other things to do anyway.

As an employee of the Media Center, I now understand why it was absolute HELLL today. I didn't realize people were having reviews. A bunch of other employees were sick today and I was running the Fiery server and cash register at the same time. A lot of people looked like trainwrecks. I figured people were having reviews, but I wasn't sure who.

I like the new building Jason, keep up the good work.

BTW, there is somewhere on North Campus where several large computers can render your file all at once.  I've heard from people it's pretty fast.  You might be able to use this resource to get your projects done faster.  I just don't know where it is.

Yikes, hell in all caps and with three L's.  3.gif

Ahhh, yeah, there should be something like that.  I'll try to figure out where it is, because that would indeed be very helpful.

Got the tower to my own computer.  Did some work on it, and rendered it with my set up.  Looks a lot better!  lol

So it's looking good, but I thought that shape of the tower would make it a 2x3 with that little bit of extra on each side of the tower, making it a 2x3 corner lot.  But it turns out that this way the tower lands exactly on the edge of the lot, making it a 2x2.

But there are two questions from that:

First, is that too small of a lot for this much of a building?  It might grow too much in the game.

And also, how should the building be oriented, and which sides should be wall to wall?

    Edit:

Something along these lines would also be possible.

I also plan on rendering the train station tonight.

Puts Wren Insurance to shame! 36.gif

I don't think it's too much of a small lot, the smaller the better I say. Makes it more flexible to fit in a dense city environment. How about two versions if you're not sure? Not sure if I understand the 2nd question though.

I like the 2nd version! The smaller tower at the base helps offset the rest. It suggests to me that some old zoning regulations may have prevented the building's owner from filling the entire "airspace" of his lot.

Jason, that second option is love! The shorter tower really balances the structure, and this would be a beautiful corner wall-to-wall! Please make the second version!!

    kthx! 3.gif

Jason!!! You never cease to amaze me! I've run out of adjectives to use on this BAT; I know on other BATs I've used, beautiful, gorgeous, etc. but I like to mix things up a bit, so this time I can only say, you've left me speechless! That is going to be one mighty fine addition to any city. 9.gif

Only one thing I'm curious about - in real life, would the shorter tower have the ornamentation on all four sides of the roofline? Or would the side facing the taller tower be more quiet and undecorated? I ask this because in real life that much ornamentation might look a little too busy. But, then again, I haven't seen many buildings like this from anywhere but street level. 3.gif I'm just the art student, you're the architecture student, lol.

Wow, the second version is where it's at! Just be sure to mod it so that it isn't as ubiquitous as Wren Insurance.

Why do I see a weird Godzilla Vs. Mothra-type fight between Wren and this building?

Jason, this new tower looks fantastic!  Personally, I like the monolithic version.  But apparently I'm in the minority, so maybe doing both versions is in order?

The windowframes on the ground floor are white - I dunno if that's intentional, but they would look better in black to match the others on higher floors.

Why the heck not do both? Not much to it, and it pleases everyone. 4.gif

If you get any flack, just say it was an early attempt at a "point" tower (or "pencil" tower")!

    Thanks guys!

The base isn't done at all (need to know where the front door would go first), and some parts of the lower tower would have less ornamentation than others.

Ok, so right now the plan will be to do 2 versions.

In other news, I've finished the train station!  But I don't have my SC4 disc with me (left it at home over Christmas break).  I sent it to JoesfBrisco to test, but it wasn't working.  I've figured out what happened, and I think I've fixed it, and now I need someone to test it for me, to make sure everything works.

Please send me a PM if you have time to test it right now.  I'd like to test it as soon as possible so that I can upload it today.

nvm, I should be able to upload it tonight!

I've uploaded Perry Station. Big thanks goes to xmike1991 for doing testing, and getting the screenshots for me. Thanks also goes to joesfmayor for earlier testing.

No Pictures right now, but I've modeled most of the rest of the building based off of the Fisher Building from October.  It's a U plan, with elevators and bathrooms at the bottom of the U, and the front facade being the right arm of the U.

Also, seeing how in-demand old police stations are, I've started an art deco police station, which is pretty far on it's way.  This is supposed to be a quicky, and so far it is, so let's hope that I can finish it up over the next week or two.  It's a 4x2.

I'll have some pictures of both probably in a few days.

That's beautiful! The only thing I would suggest is maybe some vents are needed on the roof.

No, it looks better than one of the Maxis buildings. I think it's darling. I really like the color variations in the textures. I could stare at it all day.

*DROOL* It's WONDERFUL Jason!! I love it! I just pictured an old faded ad on the wall of the elevator shaft - you know, like the old painted ads, say, for Vernors or whatnot. 2.gif And I agree with brtim about the variety of colours in the textures!

This looks amazing!  The only tiny little nitpick I have is that the ground-floor windows on the front side don't have little stone ledges beneath them.  Historic buildings typically have a stone or terracotta piece there so that the wooden windowframes aren't exposed to rainwater from the sidewalk.
