So, this is interesting. If someone changed their name since the ST7 upgrade, you need to use their original name. And if you don't know what that is, you can't nominate them. Okay, that's sloppy.

However, if someone had a name change prior to the ST7 upgrade, then you use their new name (yes, I tested it).

annoying, yeah. This is our first trixies using this system.

However, when in doubt, go to the person's profile and click on "Display Name History". Their original name will be there.

This kids is why we don't play with the name change button willy nilly.

Still, I much prefer being Craig-Abcvs rather than abcvs. People are actually much more likely to call me Craig now... which of course is what I am most used to answering to.

What this whole business goes to show is an inconsistency arriving from a software change and a rule switch. Used to be that name changes were only allowed in special circumstances because they would mess up the system if not done properly. Seems ST7 has found a workaround by not actually changing anyone's name under the hood but allowing people to map an alternative nickname to their account. But this of course means for under the hood stuff you need the under the hood name.

It also means that the whole "name history" app is incomplete, and doesn't cover name changes prior to ST7. It does not, for instance, show that Meg was once SkiGeek. Or that Kevin was once Cheese89. Or that fosterk was once fosterk12345678910. Or that Zza Xsaru was once Xsaro. Or that Scrappy was once Scrappy_dogz. Or that bigfatcow was once bigfatcowjustabigfatuglycow. (yes, that was all directly from memory. WHAT?)
