OK, boys and girls, it's December 11 and it's beginning to feel a lot like Llama-mas! So, I non-officially proclaim this rogue thread open for speculating, pontificating and/or postulating along the theme of llama-themed awards.

I predict a big awards season this year for Simtropolis!

So, to get you started on the llama-themed awards topic, I give you three things to discuss (you can add more if you so choose)...

1. What color ribbons do you want for this year's awards?

2. How many nominations do you expect to be made this year? (1000... over/under, or your actual prediction)

3. Do you have any better llama jokes than these?

Q: What do you call a very fast llama? A: a Llamagini

Q: What do you get if you stand between two llamas? A: llamanated

Two llamas are eating a clown. One looks at the other and sais, "does this taste funny to you?"

Let the games begin!!!

Actually, the medal colors have been selected. but they haven't been matched to the nomination page yet so, who knows, that may change.

No, it doesn't suck to count the nominations. It's actually rather fun. 8) Even when there are over 1,000. (it's all in the spreadsheets.)

Yes, we are going to have Trixies awards for 2011.

Unfortunately, given the way RL has been behaving, it looks like that won't happen until January. :(

The last I looked, they were not puce.

But, ya never know, things can change when the nomination page is designed.

Puce mean flea in French, and is the color of the carapace of the little bounders. I suggest anything but.

Let the golden llamas decide on their own colors.

There has been a lot of action this year, but I think a major Trixie should go to the hard working team that managed to finally bring over this site into the social networking age and continue to swat bugs. Great job fellows and girls.

Naturally as the head honcho, Dirk should get a platinum Trixie for putting up with all the BS through the years.

So it's a repeat of '08, then.

It's interesting. The first Golden Llama Awards opened for nominations in August and came out in September (September 12th, 2003, precisely). In 2004 they fell back to nominations in October and release in November. 2005 and every year since they've opened for nominations in November and released sometime around Christmas... except the aforementioned 2008, which had nominations in January of 2009 and medals released on super bowl sunday during the super bowl.

Dirk happens to be one of those Canadians who doesn't really care about the Super Bowl.

Don't worry, I'm an American and I don't care about the Super Bowl either!

Super bowl? Whazzat? We are playing hockey now, so why should anyone care about bowling? Pass that poutine over here please.

Oh Craig! Apparently a super bowl is a large potlatch held in a stadium filled full of marinated nuts where a set of fruits perform on stage in the middle of a large piece of turf covered with sweat and sometimes blood, but the tears come later.

The Yanks call this football, but we know better. A football field is 110 years long, and there are only three downs. As with all things American, this has been softened to give the quarter-back a chance to do more than run-pass-kick. With three things taken four times the number of combinations is higher. What we call football is often called rugby-football, and what the world calls football is actually the ancient Italian sport of calice which started out kicking an inflated pig bladder around in from of the Duomo in Firenze.

Interestingly the Italians didn't have a collective noun for sports until Mussolini borrowed one from English during his language reform period. Sports in Italian is called Lo Sport.

You Kiwis really ought to grow up your hockey to be played on ice with very sharp skates. It is a lot faster and more full of mayhem that way. Your hockey could also grow up into Lacrosse, which is a form of counting coup invented by our aboriginals. I believe what you play as hockey down there is called ringette here.

That's field hockey. Some high schools and universities have women's field hockey teams.

Your hockey could also grow up into Lacrosse, which is a form of counting coup invented by our aboriginals.

Not much professional lacrosse around but it is very popular with universities on the east coast. (and maybe the west coast too, I don't know)

But I agree with Craig: I am so glad we all know what we are all talking about, otherwise this could get rather confusing.
