Well there is a Sim City Creator coming out in 2010 (or is it 2011?), some people are wondering if that's the Sim City 5.

Anyone who believes SimCity Creator is the true "SimCity 5" is going to be disappointed. EA has clearly proven that real SimCity fans mean nothing.

~ COMING SOON! Exciting new projects! ~

sim city as it has evolved into SC4 is now dead. Now its time for the little kids to start playing it because more people understand how to play it that way and then that makes more money or something. Who knows what the hell EA is thinking.

I think some other company may pick the game up and try their hand at it. Maxis is currently focused on new IP's like spore and their heavyweight title The Sims 2. Until the sim city franchise is really challenge by another game sim city is at a halt.

I heard or read somewhere that one of the EA or Tilted Mill guys said there was "a reason we didn't call it [sCS] SimCity 5." Maybe this means that TM's branch of the simcity franchise is just that- a branch. And when Will Wright is done with Spore and The Sims 3 (if he's really that involved in it to begin with), he might start work on the real SimCity 5, leaving TM's Societies/Creator branch to be solely for the younger kids, and sort of an 'introduction' to SimCity, from which someone can move on to the real SimCity 5 when they've perfected their skills at SCS and SCC. I hope that's the case.

Why doesn't the sim city franchise have a in-depth tutorial? This would eliminate the need for such games like Societies.

true..true..an in-depth tutorial would definetly helpout out...but EA's too worried about beginners and how they can handle the game, personally i don't have any faith in EA anymore I'm pledging myself to Cities Unlimited and Monte Cristo...what's this SimCity Creator i've been hearing about??

That's really sad. EA has a tendency of doing that to great games. They attempt to rush development leaving games that may have originally been good not under EA to sell large amounts and have a good fan following. But they rush their games (sometimes) leaving a feeling of half done. Sim City 4 compared to 3000 is a perfect example.

i bet more people like scs than sc4.

like my little bro loves scs but hates sc4 because its 'too hard'.

in my shopping centre, the game shop has sold more copies of scs than sc4.

i think we are just the hardcore diehard fans of sc4. scs is/was meant to cater of different people.

when scs evolves into sc:creations, we might eventually see a better version of sc4 come out after this mess.

Actually, SimCity4 continues to outsell SCS every month according to the "Top 20 PC games" lists that get put out every month. SCS has now dropped off the list. Here is the list from January

http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2008/03/03/top-20-best-selling-pc-games-of-january-2008.htm

This is probably why they are packing SCS, Destinations, and a puzzle game with SC4 Deluxe so that more people start playing SCS.

I do not like saying this, as I love SCS, but it is a truth that we have to accept. SC4 continues to outsell SCS 6 years after it's release. I remain confident, however, that with more updates and expansions it'll come to be just as popular 6 years after it's release. SC4 had it's share of problems too.

I have to say, i have no faith in ea anymore. Unless it is a sims game i wont buy any new software that has been developed by an ea studio, i will occasionaly buy preowned ea software purely because ea fail to profit from this.

If it makes people feel any better: I work for a uk video game chain and since it has come out, i have seen first hand that simcity societies sells terribly. Sim city 4 still outsells societies by miles, which i am always pleased about. Nobody who works in the store appreciates ea, we all regard ea products as low quality with little replay value (based on opinions aswel as sales/customer feedback!). As a result we have a policy of promoting ea products (excluding the sims) as little as possible, they are never put on any sort of display unless instructed by head office 44.gif

From a personal perspective i have to say i was pleasently surprised by citylife, and am looking forward to cities unlimited. It looks like monte cristo may be the new leader in city building games, i dont hold out much hope for a half way decent sim city 5 coming out of ea. - On a side note, citylife gold edition also out-sells scs 18.gif

I'd like everyone to stop and think about something.

Think about if SimCity 4 were just coming out now.  No RH Expansion Pack, no NAM, no terrain mods, no radical/cheat mods, no lots, and no BATs...basically no custom content whatsoever.  Does the game sound so amazing anymore?  If it weren't for all these things, I don't think SC4 would sound like the terrific, excellent, amazing, epic, totally freaking awesome game we all make it out to be would it?  Would the vanilla SC4 be enough to keep you and sales going 5-6+ years?

Let's face it...if it wasn't for all the custom content avaliable today, nobody would really play it anymore.  That's not to say, SC4 wasn't any better than SCS is now...especially considering what they did to a game designed for computers' specs in 2003.

But a little food for thought...if I understand correctly, SC4 was pushed out too early?  Like, there's some hidden rain effect in the EXE that was never finished, in addition to the Rural Highway Mod, which the NAM team spent literally years digging out and improving?

Watch this vid and see what point I'm trying to make: http://www.gamespot.com/video/561176/2908865/simcity-4-video-review

IMO the only reason SC4 is selling so good these days is:

A) They want to "teach EA a lesson", which I think might actually be working

B)They may have seen what's avaliable online and thought "all that stuff for free, and the game's only $20!  I'm in!"

C)They liked SimCity and wanted to give this version a try (this is why I bought it).

Keep calm and take photographs.

EA has degenerated from once quality and reliable game-making, to the cartoonish junk that is SCS. Maybe SCS was made to hold us over, while EA secretly works on a better Sim City that will be the heir to Sim City 4. It also could be that SCS was rushed out to get feed-back from the hard-core fans on what to put in the next true Sim City, again I think this happens while someone secretly works on a Sim City. They release the new Sim City to shock us.

Yoshiisland you raise a great point, because if it wasent for simtropolis, and all the people uploading custom content , like nam and ndex. This game would have been dead for a longtime. Because of the simcity community making the game better, people have kept revistiting it, they but new copies to keep playing. Other people like you said see all this custom content and say wow, this makes the game much better. Also we as a community have helped to players get into the game, weather it's Cj's and in-depth tutorials that help people understand, or the limitless plugins. You can see this at my local bestbuy, where there is olny one box of simcity left, and 3 rows of 12 simcity societies left. Overall This is something societies will never have because the fan-base has not moved, and the new fan-base that's has been created isnt really in intrested making it real

So if EA made SCS soooo crappy, why the heck does SCS require so much system resource compared to SC4? My computer can barely handle SCS!

Also, I have seen a lot of SCS on Ebay auction, and there weren't much copies of SC4 deluxe left on Ebay.

SCS would have been great as SC4, if only EA allowed people to create buildings, mods, and etcs, and if EA spent more time, effort, and money in making SCS. But nooooo, EA just had to go after the profits, and leaving angry customers and the dead SimCity behind......

Obscene usage of system resources ≠ a fantastic program. See: Windows Vista.

Well...SC4 was made 5 years ago, and as a result, for the type of computers we had five years ago.  In fact, it may have been to some that SC4 was too much for their machines when it came out! (although, I do kind of doubt it).

I would say that SCS has a fairly active mod community for being out as short of a time as it has. I have started learning how to mod and there are many good mods that come out that make the game much better.

Yeah but that's from January. It has since dropped off the list and SC4 is around #18. I couldn't find the march list for some reason.

Presumably because this is 2008 and not 2003. Certainly it was poorly optimised, but graphics move on.
