Well, I would have to beg to differ on that one. There are a lot of concepts of SC4 that I think need to be fixed. The building design, especially stage 7 and 8 skyscrapers are really dull looking. No 360 degree arc rotate view.

Most of the stuff I have been wanting, such as snow, better terrain textured, end to random appearing/dissappearing of cars, more road networks, and real life businesses, with improved design and architecture, as well as more automata has allready been modded, but like I said, there is still some stuff that could be redone IMHO.

Oh and yes, forgot to add, they need to fix some tech issues. It IMHO has really started to recently make me frustrated sometimes. Lag and CTD don't affect me cause with me it is either minor or never happens at all. But it is rather bugged up in some places. But then again patches have been released but there are still some aspects of it I don't care for. Especially with me, the bugs that tend to come and go, such as one with my highways going around a curve.

Oh and I don't see the point in 5-6 games in one may be out of the question. First of all, having experience in the computer field, I have found out that, well, since files with one game are so fragmented, imagine 6 games in one. Take a look at all the TEMP files and such that will probably build up. That is sure-golly bound to get worse, especially with 6 games in one. Then we would really have a mess of lag, CTD and stuff on our hands. But I think the CTD was just a tech issue.

Another thing that might be needed in a SC5 to prevent bug buildiup is cabinet files, which I think they had in SCS, but I don't know how a cabinet file can help any. (cabinet files is a system where you can put files inside another file)

And like Larks said, liscensing would hinder it anyway. Also like tommy949 said, that would be very hard to do.

But still, with EA, in my opinion they are, and were rather greedy. To them it is nothing but the money. Sorry if this sounds stupid but they probably slopped out that SCS thing due to it.

But all I know is, right at the current point in time, I am skeptical of whether or not a SC5 would sell good or not. Considering the fact that the people who did use SCS might not trust Maxis anymore. In conclusion, I have no idea what will happen in the future. I can't even predict. I can only hope for it to be better.

I don't see it happening, Maxis are working on DarkSpore now, and to be honest, I wouldn't trust SC5 to any other development studio.

to all the people that say someone's ideas are 'way too complicated' ... what? do you want another simcity societies... or do you want people to dream big.... computers can handle anything we throw at them and in the future they will be able to do more than we can comprehend...

so when someone comes in and says i want to do these 15 things... say yes and add on to that...

dont say no its too complicated and it will never happen... and then burn their dreams down... where do you get off?? get out of your 2.5 dimensional thinking and realize that the world is changing fast around you... if you think peoples ideas are too complicated then listen to will wright talk

I imaging SimCity 5 or 6 being just like SimCity 4, but with some things improved. Things scaled better, better buildings, you've already got the foundation in SC4. Maybe a modular interchange thing, with more stuff like the NAM and NWM and SAM CAN-AM etc, but work better. (sorry, the NAM is still very cool)

Here's what I'd love to see in a new SimCity.

Fully 3-dimensional city view. Maybe have a trimetric options for more precise building.

A non-grid based surface where the layout of growing buildings vary on the space available, i.e a house in an acute corner will squeeze in there with little yard space.

Completely open region mode. Be able to terraform freely without city boundaries.

Speaking of terraforming: It's quite nice the way it is, should still have that secret feature of generating from jpegs 9.gif

Have a terrain spray tool like in the sims 3 with desert, grass, snow etc. Imagine a region with multiple climates!

Fully bendable roads and more flexible highways!

Lot zoning where -you- can actually control the direction its facing! ugh, sc4.

Larger buildings have dynamic sizes. For example, two office buildings of the same basic structure, but the number of stories and capacity will change depending on factors like demand, taxation. The color theme of the building could change too depending on the overall color scheme of the surrounding area.

City events! Could have running marathons, bicycle races in your town, parades, stuff like that.

Office buildings could be built that start off empty and are then leased to other companies.

Dynamic weather. Rainy overcast days, lightning,  snow. Hazardous weather can occur depending on the climate like hurricanes. Imagine seeing a majestic cumulonimbus obscure a portion of your skyline!

I'll post more when I can come up with more.

Don't count on it.  As far as I'm concerned, the Simtrop/Devotion community has turned SC4 into SC5 already with the vast improvements to the game than what Maxis gave us to start with.44.gif

I haven't actually Lego builder, imho I like SC4 and all I hope is that they remove the grid and shove in a 3D engine, that would be all I would require for my Sim City 5, if it had all the SC4 stuff.

Well I still think there is a SC5, but its not called that. It is 3d and all..., no grid, but its small and you run out of space fast. Its called SCS (Sim City Societies), and if they can make a more manageable and CXL like game, it would be great, and even better with the UDI.

I actually like games that run on older machines. Stuff like SC4 has minimal comp requirements (sometimes as low as a 256 Mhz processor, TOTALLY OUTDATED!). Stuff like Cities XL graphics require bigger graphics chipsets. Sometimes as big as the GeForce 9000s! The graphics on that are so immense so they need bigger system requirements. I would like to see an SC like that.

Oh and Sirron another thing is it may be your grahpics chipset. Are you using one or are you using your comp's default? If you are using the default I highly recommend you get one. Maybe a GeForce 8000 would work. I have an 8400 so things look more clear and better. I also have an LCD HD 1920x1080 res. monitor so that improves graphics by the long haul.

But if you want graphics as good as on a game like CXL or Tropico 2 on a new SC be prepared to get an expensive and huge chipset! Even my 8400 won't handle most games with graphics like CXL.

Nor would any other system specs. SC was built in the days when we didn't have Vista or 7. Or big fancy processors or boards like what we have now. SC can handle a 256 Mhz CPU speed. You have to have a Core 2 Duo , (somewhere up in the 2-3 Ghz range) to run modernized games such as Tropico or CXL.

If EA wants to start over with the Sim City series, why not recreate Sim City Classic with modern day graphics.

Package it as a $20 game, release it, and see how it does.

If it sells okay, recreate SC2 with SimCopter/Streets of Sim City and SCURK already built in.

If that does okay, keep going.

On a side note, Sims 3 Midevil sounds interesting.  How about a pre-industrial Sim City?  How about anything???

Cities XL is okay and the 2011 expansion will be out soon but with the original compnay bankrupt, I don't think they will release anything after the 2011 release other then an occasional bug fix.  Maybe.  GEMs?  lol, I think we got fooled by that idea.  Hope I'm wrong.

So what do you all think?

Simcity Industrials doesnt even have a citation so for now I wont look at it seriously unless EA officially shows if it's a real game...anyways, EA has always taken years to make sequals to the game, although the longest was 6 years(from sc2k to sc3k)

anyways, sc5 or the real sequel to sc4 is unknown. simcity societies is called sc5 but I disagree because its was clearly made for a different audience. To me it was a failed experiment they made, kind of similar to simcity creator for the wii which I think does have zoning, but I havnt heard gud reviews from it plus I've never played it, and seems to be for the same audience as scs...I'm not sure if sc5 will be made cause EA probably wants to attract younger kids to the game just so anyone can understand it, and as I've read in my old sc4 booklet, they've al keep the game as simple as possible for everyone to use, and for the true sc5 to be successful it has to have a lot of improvements on the transportation and on everything really, because they need to do better than the sc4 fanbase that has grown sc4 out so much.

lastly, lately these questions for a sequal to me have returned because of that random sweepstakes by EA and the weird wiki article on sc industrials...I just simply wont expect anything, I'l just keep working on sc4 and if by the end of 2011 nothing is announced and no game is released by 2012 the city game we want wont have sim in it...

oh and I just found this, a bit interesting, it deals with EA getting the domain name of simcity5.com... http://www.giantbomb.com/forums/general-discussion/30/is-simcty-5-coming-soon/438777/

I don't think any SimCity game will ever surpass SC4 in greatness with EA at the helm. 3.gif

I just posted a little jab at EA on their own forums – my hopeless attempt that someone at EA might actually read it, have it sink in and make sense, and spark a reaction which may ultimately lead to development of an SC5. I know, I'm a dreamer... but in the meantime it makes for a good read if I may say so myself... thought you guys might appreciate it: 10.gif

"I work for a software company who develops software for the AEC industry, and we sponsor an annual event where young students use SimCity 4 to design cities of the future. We look at these children as the next generation of professionals for the AEC industry, and infrastructure planning is HUGE business. This is not just children designing cities on a game, it's a testing of knowledge to challenge kids to find solutions for urban development problems – it promotes advancement through stimulation and we recognize the impact such stimulation can have in motivating young kids to pursue careers where they can literally improve the World's future.

That said, if "money making" is truly the reason why EA HASN'T yet taken the SimCity 4 model and built upon on it for a better game in "SimCity 5", then I think they need to step back and take another hard look at the total picture. They need to look at what's going on around the entire world and not just confine their visions to the narrow-sightedness of gaming industry trends, because next-generation infrastructure planning is only trending to become more popular as world population grows and cities run out of space to put people.

IMO, EA is already losing some serious ground by letting this already-developed and successful game model sit on their shelves and rot. It's only a matter of time before someone snatches up the Cities XL rendering engine and applies it to a game with intricacies and nuances like SimCity 4. EA better start moving on this or they're doomed to lose out on market-share from someone else's big idea."

There's no denying what modding has done for SC4 from a longevity standpoint, but I can't deny that I'm a graphics guy and I love the 3D details of a game like CitiesXL. I want both in one package (hence my signature).

I would buy SC5 in a heartbeat if it came out w/ the same robustness in functionality of the native SC4 game (even pre-Rush Hour) and the jazz of a modern graphics engine.

guys, i'm sorry, don't play Cities XL. it was the most boring game ever, so uninteresting. it was very boring, i wasn't satisfied. the Sim City games are really fun, my cities sometimes put a smile on my face, Cities XL is way too complicated and boring.

EA and Maxis should come back together and make SimCity 5.

With Monte Cristo gone, there will be no CitiesXL expansion packs. I have never played CitiesXL but once I got a City Life game for my birthday. It didn't work.

SC4 is a great game. I love it. It is my favorite game on my computer.

SCS is not a very good game, although it has a large selection of buildings. Most of those buildings cannot be built with zoning in SC4. When SC5 is finally released, Simtropolis should create a STEX for it. I also owned SCC (SimCity Creator) on the DS. It was a good game, but still not close to SC4. When SimCity Industrals (5) comes out I will purchase it. Why did EA go off with Tilted Mill? Why not keep going with Maxis! Maxis is a great game developer and I am dying for a new SC Game.

RELEASE SIMCITY 5 NOW!!!

Sincerely,

Bahamd81

First of all, globally, Maxis is almost dead. If and when they do release a SC5, that will be up to EA. Not to mention I doubt there will be a SC5. Or there won't be.

IMO everything has been said that needs to be said.
