Hi again, or welcome! A small update today, maybe a newspaper tomorrow...
@6U: Okay, embassy spot reserved for you, PM about the BAT for it. Pip, Ill keep that spot for yours, do you have an embassy building yet?
@Fox: Thankyou, realism is my goal! You have noticed my efforts to green the place up, De Vanquish intersection is a nice place, but a transport accomplishment? I dont know...
If you mean the building at the top of the pic with Kings Cross station, I hav completely forgotten what its called, Ill get back to you19.gif
I found the highway enabled arch on the STEX one day, and always wanted a place to use it!
And yes, sam_lawrence batted both, as well as the West City building(Auckland) and a modern library, again, Ive always wanted a place to use the skytower! Waterfront improvement you say? Im all ears...48.gif
Thanks for the fantastic comment Fox, See if any of you can beat it!3.gif
    @Iknowyou: thankyou, and I try my best9.gif
    @Jacqulina: Glad you like them48.gif
@Micah: Thankyou heaps, its comments like these that make it all worthwhile.

Arts week has mostly been a complete success, the touring sculpture exhibition from Cordovia has become very popular with residents and visitors alike.
    sculptureday.jpg

    Sculpturenight.jpg

The building in front of it is the New Auckland Insurance building, the largest insurance provider in New Zealand.
    NAinsurance.jpg

The small financial area has one of the highest avg. land values in New Auckland, but the soft ground cannot support many tall buildings.
    northcotysunrise.jpg

North of the CBD, lies Uptown, an attractive area due to its proximity to the CBD.
    newsuburbia.jpg

    Uptown.jpg

This shows an experimental area near the new industrial development, all three zomes are close to each other, so residents dont have to travel very far. And if they did, efficient public transport takes them to major destinations. So far, the model has proved very effective, with car traffic levels some of the lowest in the city.
    trizone.jpg

North of King's Harbour, just South of Omaha, lies the rich Greenstone Forest, the area owned by Richmond Corp. They have promised to reduce clear-cutting as much as possible, to prevent soil erosion and just to keep it looking good.

@jacquilina: Thankyou again for dropping by9.gif, glad you like the pictures and the newspaper, it should be better resolution this time too by the way.
@Pip: Dont worry, the story is unveiling2.gif, the Sims enjoy the sculpture park alot16.gif, and I cant wait for your embassy19.gif
@Chocomax: Well, I wouldve wanted to design it properly, but it has ended up sort of unplanned and random, I wish i planned ahead better, maybe next time...

OK...photobucket was down for a while, but its back up now, so now our feature presentation (Simcity(or me) seems to have deleted some pics, so its a smallish update now:
    Header.jpg
North of the city near the smaller Vodafone Stadium, the hi-tech King's Hospital and training centre has opened with the help from St Marque Inlet doctors. The building will serve as the top medical training facility in New Zealand, and also as a hospital with new treatments.
    kingshospital1.jpg

After the King became obsessed with streamlining the national motorway system, the De'Vanquish Intersection has been upgraded with a tunnel to let M1 travellers straight through the CBD.
    newdevanquish.jpg

Also in the CBD, new towers have gone up, such as the now famous Fisk Investment buildings, situated on opposite sides of the Western Motorway. The company wanted to build a skybridge across the gap, but in what was most likely a smart move, the council didnt allow it.
    FiskInvestors.jpg

    fisk2.jpg

Another new tower is the Googleplex Media Corp. building, seen here on the left overlooking the final game of the season in the New Fisher Stadium.
    nightgame.jpg

And since I feel so bad about the smallness of this update, heres a shot of the real auckland
    googleearthauckland.jpg

As a shocking revelation, citizens were shocked to find this story on yesterdays morning paper:

Oh my.. 47.gif Looks like New Auckland is in serious trouble.. Should you require assistance in this matter, know that the Imperial Guard is perfectly capable of quelling rebellion and civil unrest, as you no doubt know.. Two regiments have been put on standby and can depart for New Auckland within minutes..

Good luck with this situation! 2.gif Great to see all these newspapers springing up everywhere.. The New Auckland Herald is a wonderful addition! 44.gif

Some great updates I've missed over the last few weeks Exchagga... You City Journal is coming along really great. I love the pictures, the history and stories to go with them and the newspapers. I'm glad you managed to find an arangement that you liked and could work with. Looks good.

I find the story you have unfolding in your Nation a good read, it's very interesting. I'll be keeping an eye out to see how your Nation fares.

As you know, St. Marque will be willing to do all it can to help you in your time of need as one of your nearest SCJU neighbours.

I hope to have some good news for you later on to, that will hopefully help your finacial problem in New Auckland.

I'm glad you have put the hospital to good use. Looks great in that picture.

I just have to say lastly, that I love the modern style of buildings that you have used in the CBD.

    Keep up the great work.44.gif

Wow, Its been ages since Ive done an upadate, but as you all know, RL calls from time to time...
@Jacquilina: Thankyou for your continued comments48.gif, I always can look forward to a kind comment from you.
@Pip: Yes, NA is in the proverbial at the moment, and those police will be needed quick smart as you will see below
@Jarnomiedema: I hope to keep going without supressing the people too much, although youre delightfully oppresive police style may come in handy2.gif
Jarnomiedema helped me create a bit of a riot it NA, and without him my complete lack of Lot editor knowledge would have left me clueless. However, visit Chaumont(link in sig) for a much better example of how to make crowds in SC4. Thanks alot44.gif
@Fox: Delightful, another comment from the one and only Fox. Again, another helpful person who gave me the basic template of the NA herald44.gif
The story is yet to unravel completely, but this is a CJ, not Pulp Fiction, so dont expect too much9.gif
Apparantly my taste in modern archetecture is slightly different from yours, but I'm glad you like the overall style of NA.
    Header.jpg
The recent crisis has affected the nation more seriously then expected. The loss of companies has caused an exodus of those who can afford it, and the ones left are left poor and unemployed, which is never a good combination.
The once proud Eden City, with the highest avg. income on the nation, has become home to delapidated ruins and slums.
This is an aerial shot taken before the crisis:
    richbefore.jpg
    And the same place after:
    Richslum.jpg
The council's have rushed to build subsidised flats, but these have become crime ridden and unhealthy areas due to oercrowding and limited funding.
    Before:
    Housingestate.jpg
    After:
    Slumafter.jpg

In Vice City, north of King's Harbour, things are slightly better, most of the populaton has moved into tenements and low-cost housing.
    Councilflats.jpg

    Tenements.jpg

Of course, nowhere has been harmed more than the CBD, where nearly all jobs are provided by high-wealth offices, most of which have pulled out of NA due to bad expectations.
    cityslum1.jpg

    Cityslum2.jpg

Riots have been sparked here by bored teenagers, but have spread to include almost the whole population.
Arsonists have so far only targetted abandoned office buildings:
    FireNorthtown.jpg

    FireSouthtown2.jpg

    FireSouthtown.jpg
These rioters are moving now to target government buildings, especially Parliament. After his airport destroyed, the PM is in hiding in Parliament, and the King desperately trying to defuse the violence.
Military assistance from other nations has been requested, with NZ police already at the scene.

The riots began before the budget announcement in Waitakere, a small town home to the nations military reserch base, cause of the crisis. It has become an unofficial HQ for protesters, who, due to personell being needed in the capital, have managed to breach the walls of the base and protest inside.
This picture was taken shortly before the base was overwhelmed.
    milbefore.jpg
    And after:
    MilAfter.jpg

The violence is centred mainly around the bases three medium-range nuclear missiles, which had been taken out of storage for a press investigation shortly before the base was invaded.
The few personell have managed to keep protesters away so far, although most are non-violent, and do not wish to damage the missiles. The government has called for emergency assistance in protecting these missiles, and it is predicted that they will have to be shipped to the nation of Cordovia, who are rumoured to have nuclear weapons themselves.
This was taken by a TV-helicopter before the air-space was closed.
    Milriot.jpg

The crisis hasnt been bad for the whole nation, the main exporters, farmers, are benifiting from extremely low exchange rates.
    Ruraldev1.jpg

    ruraldev2.jpg

In other good news, the nation of SMI has offered to buy the ailing government-owned mining company Umbrella Corp. The company has been plagued by loss of profits as the nation was not able to maintain equipment or upgrade it.
The main mine, Wellington, produces high-grade coal sought after for its clean-burning properties.

Well... take two on the comments... 'cause for some reason my IE always refreshers the reply page and I lose the comment I was typing... Makes me very angry.

Ok...on with the comment if I can remember all that I typed.

Great update... It is very eerie with all the abandonment and the fires engulfing your Cities... It makes me very sad, after the journey we've been taken on through this CJ.

St. Marque Inlet (SMI) has sent 1300 security and armed personnel to be advised and directed by your military as you need them. They will arrive in a few hours to help with your crisis.

The purchase of the Umbrella Corp mine is hopefully the first of many important infrastructure that is to be purchased by SMI companies. Engineers will be sent as soon as the crisis calms a little to evaluate the mine and provide a plan to make it economically viable and profitable for your Nation.

The SMI Government has also announced over at the SCJU site that SMI is suspending all loans and debt repayments owed by New Auckland to SMI banks and institutions. Also, the Government announced that New Auckland was also successful in winning the contract to construct the first phase of public transport upgrades in SMI, worth a total of $1.5 billion.

Hopefully many other Nations will show some initiative and suspend debt that New Auckland owes as well as trying to help cash strapped businesses in New Auckland from being forced to close.

I look forward to the next update very eagerly...30.gif

    3) A Travel Advisory the SCJU regarding Travel to New Auckland by the citizens of its member states is now in effect. It is advised that travel to New Auskland is DANGEROUS and a HIGH THREAT to the PERSONAL SAFETY of TRAVELLERS.

STATEMENT FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS AND DIPLOMACY (DEAD), DOMINEA

In view of the current situation in New Auckland, we are prepared to do the following:-

    1) Under the auspices of the SCJU to deploy two regiments of the Imperial Dominean Emergency Services (IDES) numbering 900 and one legion division of 1200 men into NA.

The Giranese govenrment is prepared to assist in a diplomatic way in negotiations with the current government and the rioters, we will also be prepared to support any interim government should one be appointed. Our best advice is that a Vote of Confidence de called so that new general elections can take place as soon as possible.

The King has also offered to help his NAder counterpart by offering Political Asylum should it be required.

We are still prepared to offer economic assistance and if there is more urgency, we are also prepared to buy state-owned companies and other premises. all this will be done in accordance with international law and with the assistance of the World Bank.

    yours sincerely

    Disaster in NA!

I am loving some of your jokes from earlier posts that only people from NZ get. Had a few laughs at them. Especially the Progressives rankings in the polls heh

I hope that the problems get sorted out before 2011... we have a world cup to be ready for! (no not soccer incase some of you are woundering)

Im sure you all know what its like, so please forgive my recent slackness of updating due to RL. Heres just a newspaper article I whipped out, so nothing spectacular
@Fox: Im sure i replied to your comment before, but it seems to have not worked either!9.gif
Yes, the cities are very eirie, its sorta sad, glad i didnt save it that way22.gif
I hope other nations are as willing to help out as SMI is, with help such as from St Marque Inlet, we should get back on our feet as soon as possible.
    @Jacqulina: Thankyou for your visit!10.gif
@slann: Again, nice to see a nation offering to help, we hope to be able to lift that pesky travel advisory ASAP, I am the tourism minister after all!
@Jeb: The elections are due to be held very soon, and because reliable opinion polls cannot be carried out due to network problems, the outcome is a mystery!
@Leech: Myon can help by simply keeping up relations with New Auckland as before, keep investing here, and trading, and visiting(as soon as this violence is over that is)
    @kotchanski: Short and sweet18.gif
@skyshroud: Dont laugh too much at the Progressives, they won the Dunedin electorate9.gif And yes, New Auckland is ready to host its own world sport event, the unofficial SCJU games.
@pipishere: The citizens of NA are a hardy bunch and will get over this little hitch, infact, they might benifit in the long run!2.gif

    And here it is,

Glad to help out a fellow SCJU Member Exchagga... I'm just glad that we managed to save your Nation before it turned into ruin...

I look forward to the next update for sure now.

I'd also like to thank Slann for his organisational skills in this time of crisis. With out him I'm sure the situation would have been a lot worse off.

I look forward to recieving those first shipments of new busses soon too.. all in good time I guess though. With an exchange rate like New Aucklands... St. Marque Inlet will be buying a lot of your currency too. It's sure to be a great profit making exercise.
