Welcome to New Auckland!
New Auckland is a growing city, pictured above in a CGI map of the region without development (as a scale, the roundish island near the middle of the map is just bigger than a large city tile.) New Auckland is growing very quickly, and not quite as expected.
History
Old Auckland, as it is now known, was part of New Zealand, and the biggest city in that nation. With a size of around 1.5million, Auckland was well on the way to becoming a large metropolis.
p10101821da.jpg
On a fateful day in October 2007, Auckland misteriously disappeared, all buildings and residents vanished and obliterated3.gif
Sir
All seemed lost for Auckland, but for an eccentric billionaire by the name of Hubert Cumberdale. He was determined to reshape the city and was willing to fund the recontruction, on one condition, that New Aucklanders would worship him as King.  The few remaining Aucklanders accepted, and began work on the CBD, now with modest funding from the 12th richest madman in the world.
The New Zealand government though gave up on Auckland, and decided to sell the entire region. Self-titled Sir Cumberdale quickly bought it all, and now the New Republic of Auckland is a stand-alone nation!

Although Sir Cumberdale is King, New Auckland is governed by its Parliament, as Sir does not want to worry about political matters. New Auckland recently joined the  Simtropolis Journal Union , and as well on the way to becoming a prosperous member.

City pictures coming soon!

    New Auckland

    The Founding
    The citizens of New Auckland decided to first settle in the old Auckland CBD.  The harbour is deep for shipping, and the King chose here for his home.
    aucklandcbdfeb30011232307394am.jpg
     They started by laying basic transport routes, and then of course building the King's castle
    The first houses sprung up around the warm, northern beaches, opposite King Cumberdale's castle. The bridge you see, named Cumberdale Bridge because it passes by his castle, was mysteriously constructed in a week so that the King could drive to the Saturday night game at the Fisher Stadium in the top-right
    aucklandcbdmay220211238844420q.jpg

    While the CBD sprang up afresh, the old surrounding suburbs were re-awakened by the new development. Upper Waitemata, to the west of the CBD, was swamped by new immigrants, powered only by wind, and with limited public services, it very almost collapsed as crime rates rose and education levels plunged, only now is it recovering.
    upperwaitemtaoct14041124502123.jpg

    As the CBD expanded, plans were drawn up for expansion of the nation. A new , resort city was proposed in the red area to attract tourists, an industry lagging in New Auckland, a coastal city also is planned to link it back to the CBD(yellow). Also to attract tourists is a National Park in the green area. Debates were fought over the naming, with the King unwilling to put his name on a bunch of trees. As a result, name ideas has been asked of the public in a referendum.

    49.gifNew Auckland is announcing that names for the newly created National park will be sent in by the public. Names must be in by Sunday night to be included in the judging! Any ideas will be considered so scratch that creative itch and post your ideas!

    <ahttp://img393.imageshack.us/img393/8559/region8zd.jpg align=baseline>
    Thats update 2! Update 3 will take you on a tour through the smaller centres around New Auckland, such as Eden City and Waiheke

    Not too many comments, or name suggestions, but teve0, Parliament has taken some of those to the King for his consideration49.gif

    T0_-1_581429.jpg
    The Government has finally stabilised things economically, and the growth is slowing a little. The older, undestroyed cities are still growing quickly though, and are struggling to cope.
    Eden City
    Eden City began life during World War one as a growing factory town, unfortunately its industries are a major source of revenue, and pollution. A green belt and Mt Eden reserve are buffers against the pollution but the greenies are protesting city hall for higher taxes on the pollutors, and only now is the city caving in.
    T0_-1_581438.jpg
    Eden City is also home to the first Auckland based military base. The Auckland Airforce Brigade was set up in WW2 and still functions, although Rangitoto Air Base is now larger.
    T0_-1_581451.jpg
    In the late '50s early '60s, Eden City became a commercial centre and attracted high-wealth corperations, growth slowed later in the century though, and when Auckland was obliterated, many firms moved out because of the uncertain future of Auckland. The first Auckalnd stock exchange (2nd pic)was also built here but now serves as a museum.
    T0_-1_581462.jpg

    T0_-1_581479.jpg

    Thats it for now from Eden City, Next will be Rangitoto and Waiheke, update in the next few hours.
    Any comments or requests for pic just post! 37.gifAnd dont forget that name suggestion!

    @Pipishere: The taxes are slowly driving them out, and a new hi-tec area has sprung up to the south. Eden City is home to most of New Auckland's upper class residents. The zones are for nice big mansions, and old grand condos are still around. As for the double post, just edit out all the words and leave an asterix, people will know what you mean.Nice name too19.gif

    T0_-1_581429.jpg
    Continuing our tour around the smaller centres of New Auckland, we first start at Rangitoto, a round volcanic island to the east of the CBD.
    Rangitoto
    The Rangitoto area also includes Devonport, a small peninsula bordering New Auckland CBD. Devonport is small, but popular, so apartment buildings are everywhere.
    rangitototowrs8uw.jpg
    Rangitoto Island also attracts many bio-tec industries due to its neighbouring farm city Mototapu, its deep water port, and airport. In this pic, Rangitoto Municiple Airport is to the right. New laws have been passed to allow long banned genetic engineering as long as it remains in the lab.
    rangitotoport0of.jpg
    The Island has recently been made a reserve, and most new development has been banned. The Airbase unfortunately was already there, and until there is a new one, it must remain. On the summit, the old Cordovia3.gif Hotel has been reopened by the new government and now attracts visitors from everywhere.
    rangitotoairbase9io.jpg

    Waiheke
    The large island to the far East of Rangitoto has long been a popular Summer retreat, and now is being eyed for new developement, with excellent climate for farming, and holidays, Waiheke has quickly become a popular area for immigrants.
    suburbia4vs.jpg

    waterfall1zj.jpg

    Thats it for now! BTW, Ive only just discovered that you can shrink the UI, after nearly 2 years of SC4, you'd think id wonder what that little button by the clock does!18.gif

    A lack of comments again15.gif, but pipishere thanks for your support!44.gif

    T0_-1_581429.jpg
    People are flooding into Auckland, but growth is slowing and things are finally settling down. The first national election finished recently, and the new government is guiding the country ahead.
    The King wanted a summer retreat, so the government decided on expanding the city north towards sunny Pipi Peninsula. The city decided to build a North-Coastal Highway to stimulate production.
    Along this highway is springing up a small, but rich, city. Vice City3.gif, as it has been dubbed by the King, a fan of video games, is growing very quickly. The Old city, furthur inland, is poorer and older, a workers village from the industrial precinct furthur north.
     oldcity0xc.jpg
    The coast is where all the money goes, one of the first buildings, other than the highway, was the Fisher Stadium, moved after the King realised he didnt like soccer and wanted the stadium out of his sight.
    T0_-1_586432.jpg

    The Cumberdale Expressway, as the whole North-South main motorway is called, also was chosen as the site for the Nations first army base.The North CBD outpost is home and work for almost 6000 troops, and 6 tanks manufactured in Eden City with American designs.
    T0_-1_586447.jpg

    As for the National Park, Parliment discussed long and hard and eventually agreed on Donnington National Park, because of its Christmasy ring.

    If anyone knows where to get the snow mod ill be eternally grateful16.gif
    And any comments are still more than appreciated!!!!!!!

    Hi, sloppet and kant01, thanks for dropping by! As always, thakyou pipishere! (Ive added your CJ to my sig too, and football in NZ usually means rugby)
    Updates may be a bit slow because of exams but Ill still be here

    T0_-1_581429.jpg
    The CBD is still the fastest growing city in the nation, and new constructions start everyday. The planners have pushed to encourage hi-tec industry in the area and the cities prime industrial research area, Grafton, is rapidly expanding
    industry2yb.jpg

    The first part of the city is still seeing development, as sims crowd to live on the Northern beaches.  The King has been claimed to visit here, in disguise of course, he has become a bit reclusive and paranoid46.gif.
    <ahttp://img360.imageshack.us/img360/5098/waterfrontrow2hq.jpg align=baseline>

    The nation is finally seeing corperations attracted back, as inflation drops and the economy gets more stable, office buildings begin to sprout. The first picture shows the Tolstoy Promenade, built by the city as a relaxing spot in the heart of the city. In the second you can see the first skyscraper of the city, the Vero Centre, built from plans of one of Old Auckland's icon buildings.
    <ahttp://img373.imageshack.us/img373/7080/wharfcbd0bp.jpg align=baseline>

    <ahttp://img373.imageshack.us/img373/2108/verosea9gg.jpg align=baseline>

    The city is also starting work on the governmental area. Currently parliament is held in the Kings basement.

    Construction has finally started in Omaha, New Aucklands resort city. The sleepy town of Dunkirk has now become home to hundreds of workers.
    <ahttp://img378.imageshack.us/img378/8398/dunkirk4aq.jpg align=baseline>

    The nations largest airport, Hubert Cumberdale International, has also been built, and already serves hundreds of passengers daily.
    <ahttp://img378.imageshack.us/img378/6711/omahaairport7lx.jpg align=baseline>

    In other news, plane wreckage was found in the Waitakere Ranges by a surveyor finding sites for the planned skifield. The planes origin is unknown, but the wrekage has been taken to AII, Auckland International Intelligence, for examination.

    <ahttp://show.imagehosting.us/show/581429/0/nouser_581/T0_-1_581429.jpg align=baseline>

    The King is desperate to get Omaha complete, The Republic Newspaper reported that the SCJU Minister of Tourism is going to offer awards to the best Tourist nation. The Minister, His Honerable Exhagaga, who is New Auckland's representative at the SU, is refusing to comment. Because of this, King Cumberdale has employed hundreds more workers to complete the CBD-Ohamaha Motorway.
    Along the M'ways path, small towns have popped up, like Walkworth, site of one of the power stations supplying Omaha.
    <ahttp://img246.imageshack.us/img246/4500/town9rr.jpg align=baseline>

    Further North, the motorway passes through Arbor Inlet, a small foresting and rail town. The town has apparantly been there for years, without muh outside contact, so the inbred residents protesting long and hard about the new Motorway, This dang motorway's going right through the church where my children married...each other, an old man was heard to say.
    <ahttp://img363.imageshack.us/img363/7262/mway9jr.jpg align=baseline>

    The King also demanded that the Airport be expanded, although it is only a few weeks old. Renovations should be complete soon.
    <ahttp://img363.imageshack.us/img363/5921/elrail5cl.jpg align=baseline>

    As for the town of Omaha, the Palms hotel has been built to start the tourist rush. Although it is at the moment alone, more deals have been signed, and sites cleared for new construction. The second picture shows the King's Omaha residence, only seconds from the beach.
    <ahttp://img363.imageshack.us/img363/3043/beachfront5nr.jpg align=baseline>

    <ahttp://img363.imageshack.us/img363/7067/kingshouse8cn.jpg align=baseline>

    <ahttp://show.imagehosting.us/show/581429/0/nouser_581/T0_-1_581429.jpg align=baseline>

    Back in the CBD, things have been changing alot, a commercial area has begun development near the Kings castle, the government is finally getting a home, and all around construction is booming. These pictures just show the older part of the city, the first is of the central area at night.
    <ahttp://img386.imageshack.us/img386/4656/cbdnight8lj.jpg align=baseline>
    This picture is again of the industrial area, now quickly expanding, the city is pushing for a port, and most likely it wil end up near the new government development.
    <ahttp://img386.imageshack.us/img386/34/somy6ot.jpg align=baseline>
    Here is the main hotel in the city, 5* of course, right opposite the Kings castle.
    <ahttp://img386.imageshack.us/img386/8681/sailhotel2id.jpg align=baseline>
    Below is the Northwestern Motorway, it originally was going to be underground, but the ground is far too unstable.
    <ahttp://img386.imageshack.us/img386/3577/sunken9ns.jpg align=baseline>

    The new developed area has started at the base of the bridge, and is proving very popular probobly because it is closer to Eden City, and the Kings castle.
    <ahttp://img373.imageshack.us/img373/609/nwetown7za.jpg align=baseline>

    And finally, work has begun on the new government district, at the end of the Devonport Peninsula. After the embarrassing plane theft, Intelligence has built a new state-of-the-art facility,on the right, with most of it safely underground. The construction on the right is to be the new Government offices, Parliament, and home to most ministries.
    <ahttp://img359.imageshack.us/img359/3627/newgov7ws.jpg align=baseline>

    The old town of Suerte, on the west coast of the nation, has recently begun a surge of development, and plans are to extend the etern motorway over the Waitakere ranges to get there. Construction is expected to be complete in the next few months.

    Thankyou to all who commented, @ bartonn, Salad fingers is more popular then I thought so find it http://fat-pie.com/

    T0_-1_581429.jpg

    Although the King is the money source for the country, it is ruled by a Parliment much like New Zealands. Every three years an election is held, and a new party elected by popular vote.
    The first elections were held recently, and a new government came to power, the Social Labour party.
    History of the Republic
    After King Cumberdale first arrived, the country was governed by equal division,  with the two main parties and their partners having an equal share of votes. This more than not led to fierce arguments, as each party had very different views of the future.
        The Social Labour Party
    This party stands to make the New Republic of Auckland prosperous to everyone, while also keeping cities and surrounding areas as clean and pristine as possible. They support tourism as the most likely next main industry, and most revenue goes towards tourist orientated projects. Unfortunately, this has led to a rise in crime rates, and the population is worried about the lack of military the country has.
    The leader, His Honerable Neil Finn, was voted New Aucklands most eligible Prime Minister, and was voted in on 62%
    neilfinn185980m5sl.jpg

        The First National Party
    This party stands to make New Auckland one of the most powerful nations in the world. They planned a huge tax cut for large corpoeraions, and proposed rapid suburban expansion of the CBD, and small towns in the area. Their plan was based around a zoning area idea, where each zone would be dedicated to one task. Eden City was to be made into the industrial city, the CBD into the CBD, and surrounding areas into residential suburbia.
    The National First Party was set to be the next government, until a scadal was revealed. The old leader, Chris Cairns was photographed on a drunken rampage, (Second from right in photo), nights before the election, and ratings immediately plunged. The party, after a devastating 24% vote, is yet to find a new leader.
    chriscairns9ex.jpg

        The Greens
    The green party is determined to save the spectacular surroundings of the Auckland area. They ran alongside Labour as a coilition partner, but in the famous Snowgate saga, almost resigned from the partnmership. Labour wanted a skifield built in the Waitakeres, but Greens do not want chairlits and hooligans defacing our beautiful mountains. The Greens backed down after they realised how much they depended on Labour. The leader is Zoe Starchaser, who refuses to be photographed on spiritual beliefs. They had a party vote of 13%.

    The other minor parties gained very little attention, Nationals partners the Liberalists had a party vote of less than 1%, mainly because they were founded 2 weeks before the election was held.

    City pictures tomorrow, I promise12.gif!
