Anywyay, I bring this up because we spotted a bus which, on the sign on the front, rather than just saying the destination, blinked back and forth between the destination and "GO CELTICS". People in Massachusetts are a sports-crazy bunch.

Can't be bigger then New York, when I went to NY last year, I went to a Yankee game and I've never seen such loyalty and cheering, the Yankees are like the biggest team in sports.

Odd, I always thought the celtics were spelled with a "K" I've always said it as "Kell-Ticks"....

Obviously Basketball is our biggest sport atm but Baseball is right there, Football is in a rough place right now, After that basically comes horse racing and NASCAR.

Only like 2% are NHL fans, No one cared when they made the playoffs :uhm: Only got a small articale in the newspaper and like a 2 min explaining of what they were on ABC. .

No, it's bigger than New York. A lot bigger. There are plenty of loyal Yankee fans out there but there are also plenty of people in and around New york who don't really give a damn about sports (the sheer size of the population means you can still draw huge crowds even given that). And there are lots of people who might be into one or two sports but not all of them. In Boston it's different. In Boston everyone is into every sport. You don't just see it at the stadium, you see it everywhere, constantly. Culturally, it's not just being a fan, it's a way of life. To the point where if you are a young woman in Boston and you don't care about sports, you will have trouble getting dates. Being able to cheer alongside your man is a condition for keeping one.

The marketing people know this too, and in Boston you will see the names and logos of teams plastered all over the place more than anywhere else.

Odd, I always thought the celtics were spelled with a "K" I've always said it as "Kell-Ticks"....

"Kell-tick" is the correct pronunciation for the adjective describing people and things from Ireland. The sports team, however, is usually pronounced "sell-ticks".

Both are spelled with a C.

Interesting, Haven't heard it said that way, They could make a slogan like "Sell-Tickets" :P

I am bored. I have internet access only on my phone. I am done with my chores. I am bored with my books. I have not picked up Pokémon for a year. Anno 2070 is less fun off line.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

*groans at Duke's pun* EDIT: *groans at usfighter's pun, as well*

I don't know anything about any sport. :P All I know is that in Baseball, you run around in a circle; in Basketball, you shoot a ball through a hoop; in Football, you run around and crash into other people with your entire body weight. In spite of all this, I beat my friend at Madden '08 when it was my first time playing. He was frustrated, and I was amused.

@Ocram: Pokemon TCG or the video games? I have Gold, Crystral, Fire Red, Diamond (but I lost it), Platinum, SS, White, and Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. I also have (somewhere) over 500 (probably closer to 1,000, but I'm not sure) cards, including a Japanese Neo Destiny Ultra-Rare Shining Holofoil Noctowl. Beat that. :]

In other news, I'm currently staying at The Homestead in Heber City, Utah. The scenery is beautiful, but the room is awful. At least I have internet, so I'm content.

I will be in Utah myself in a couple weeks time, although further south.

Yeah, I'm finally doing something I've wanted to do for ages: driving cross country. I leave Friday the 22nd.

I wish you luck on your venture! I've been wanting to go across the nation one way or another myself.

Australia is about the same size as the US, it's just a lot more sparsely populated. One could probably reasonably drive around Australia in two weeks.

I plan for it to take four days for me to get from New York to Los Angeles, four days to get from Los Angeles to Miami, and then two days from Miami back to New York.

It would be easier to get around Australia, if you start from Hobart in tasmania, go to melbourne then go around the coast (with a stop in alice springs) would take 2 months if you decided to stay a couple hours or a day or two in Brisbane or Perth. But if it were like how you where doing it duke, it would be going from Sydney to Perth, Perth to Darwin, Darwin to Melbourne then back to Sydney would take roughly the same amount of time :P

EDIT: @CityMaster: NUMBER CHECK!!!

woops..

I'd love to drive across Canada, there's so much to see. You're right though, it would take quite some time.

I'd like to drive across Europe, but it would be nice to have A) the money, and B) a driver's license first. :P

The Trans-Canada highway is just under 5,000 miles long. At my pace, driving the length of it would take a week.

Europe varies greatly depending on which endpoints you pick.

Since we're much less populated than the US, our highway network is much less dense. You'd be able to visit all of the major cities by staying on the National Highway though. If you're more a fan of loop roads you can visit all the capitals on Highway 1.

If you'd like to know more about Australia's highway network, you may enjoy this. I would like to draw the readers attention to the Anne Beadell Highway, which does not conform to the standard type of highway I am sure you are familiar with.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I don't know much about China but I'd assume they must have to have some giant highways, especially around Hong Kong.

China has built quite a few highways in recent years and may have already exceeded the US in mileage. As far as I'm aware, though, none are abnormally wide. The busiest and widest freeway in the world remains Highway 401 in Toronto.

Yep, 9 lanes in each direction (18 total, not including any entrance/exit ramps), yet it still comes to a grinding halt if one lane is closed each direction...
