It's one of those issues of which version of English you're using. The term "timetable" is, in this context, archaic usage in the US. We say "schedule", both in regards to classes at school and in regards to trains.

You would, however, still here the term used in other ways, e.g. "a timetable for withdrawing troops from Iraq".

Here in Japan I can get away with saying "schedule", although the way katakana works it sounds more like "sukejuru".

I'd get odd looks if I referred to it as a schedule. The university website I used to build it had timetable in the name, so it's definitely the word in use here.

Something can be scheduled to happen, or occur on schedule, and so on. Like many things it appears to merely be a matter of national preference.

I'm rather fond of Doctor Who as well. I also like QI, Mythbusters, and am rather sad the show Spicks and Specks is ending this year. I haven't seen Top Gear recently.

Professor Brian Cox's Wonders of the Universe is high on my list of short non-fiction series.
