I really think that to become fluent, you really need to live in a place and be forced to use the target language every day. I've worked with plenty of Japanese-born English teachers here, and the ones who have studied or lived abroad for any meaningful length of time all sound far more natural than those who have not. There is a clear divide between the two.

Sounds like Russian will be somewhat easy to learn. A chunk of our population is made up of people either from there or descended from there.

I find it funny that there is so much talk about the Soviet Union but the USSR broke apart over 20 years ago and there aren't many communist nations left.

Huh, thread went dead for a while there.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I don't understand why they needed to release it in 3D.

For the awesomeness of the 3D effects... the iceburg practically jumps off the screen! [/sarcasm] :P

Honestly, I find it kind of odd. Doesn't seem like a film that 3D would go well with...

While trying to prove that one cannot fit 200,000 sims in a 2kmx2km (medium) city tile with realistic density (CAM), I relearned how boringly easy SimCity 4 is.

You kidding Ocram? I tried playing vanilla simcity with no cheats and i failed miserably. Keeping the city making any kind of profit was really hard, even on easy. xD I've sworn myself to the "howdryiam" and "fightthepower" codes.

I still play the game as the game... the art is just a side effect. Although, my cities are beginning to be, in some cases, be art-based.

I had the CAM, which is has a demand mod and I used the NAM with ultra settings (streets where you would normally need avenues) starting with a suburb and farm. I was down to 10k before I noticed it and instantly cut funding, legalized gambling (no difference if no residents) and used "weakness pays" a couple times. By not providing any education (in order to grow over 10k farm jobs), I rarely went into the red in my residential city with a small "main drag" commercial- lined avenue and rail transport (only ways out of town), even after building up the industrial city. The industrial city was a bigger problem because I zoned small shops in the middle so all my power came from trash incinerators and oil power plants. I had to use weaknesspays and 'you don't deserve it' to build the federal prison, legalize gambling, and get out of the deficit. I eventually educated my workforce, exported water, and built up high density manufacturing and 45k R$ population. The next city was all wealthy (CS$$, CS$$$, CO$$, CO$$$, R$$, R$$$, I-HT) and I built up over 40k sims and stage 8 offices (Reamon Plaza, Wren Insurance, The Galvin's Corp, Fisk Insurance, etc), with medium commuter airport and high density high tech industry. Regional population is about 142k.

No money trees, only business deals, segregation exploits, and budget cuts. I try to maintain $1000 to $2000 budget surplus until building infrastructure.

Or every city built is unrealistic; If you tried to recreate San Francisco with a vanilla game it would have been impossible since your choices for networks are limited abd you wouldn't have the right buildings to do it..

Saw the three stooges movie with my cousin today, funny as hell, really paid homage to them in a respectful way.
