Looking Good there Jason- I remeber when the redid the Night Lighting on it I was working for a Lighting Company(Concert/Autoshows Company) and we got to do the grand unvailing party I had 4 Flatbed Trucks full of my Moving Lights outside as well as 4 Lights on Buildings across the Street Well I ended up with 3 as one got blown over by a wind gust and met the roof with some force. It was really cool to get to see detroit's Skyline from the Roof of a couple different Buldings.

Skyfire What are you looking for Picturewise I got a few the last time I was downtown let me know what you want and I'll try and get down there for a few pics(probally the next Tigers Game I go to or possibly that other Team downtown that says they play football but I've yet to see it)

I'm pretty sure he means "world's first" as in original Border's.  "Where it all began"... so to speak, before becoming the corporate beast that it is today.

Simfan: JBSimio is right -- I'm talking about the very first Borders Bookstore, at the corner of State & Liberty in Ann Arbor, Mich. Simgoober's is good too, just not the original. 2.gif

So here's an in-game shot. This is the LM version I made since I couldn't get the Cs$$ to grow. I'm not 100% pleased with it, but I'm getting kinda antsy to have this thing done already. I think it could definitely use better texturing in places and I think Jason said something about scaling, but I couldn't see where that function is in GMAX. I notice that the people walking by are about tall as the first floor... 22.gif

BordersIG1.jpg

(JB... I think I see one of your buildings on the south side of the block!)

Also, in addition to the Cs$$ growable, I'd really like to offer a ploppable. Can anyone help or is there a tutorial on it? I putzed around the omnibus but nothing jumped out at me. (Then again, I could be blind.)

What do you guys think?

Well there is certainly some great progress here! I'll be looking forward to more, especially the Penobscot.

Not to change the topic, but that thing about the "terrorists" is kind of funny because I adopted my dog from the Humane Society of Tuscola County, which happens to be located in Caro. It is quite a long and boring drive out there...

no! no!  Keep on working on it!  The extra time you spend on it makes all of the difference.  Work on Burton Tower or start a new project, and then when you get sick of that project come back to this one.

The scale tool can be seen next to the rotate tool in the picture below.

createwall14.jpg

Click and hold down on the icon, and some more scaling choices will come up.  You want the one that only scales in one direction.  There's one that scales all directions, one that scales one direction, and one the scales one direction bigger and one direction smaller (it squashes it).  You'll have to do a little experimenting (not much though) to see which one does what, but then you'll be able to scale it.

What... you're getting kinda antsy? I'm sorry, I didn't know that word before, and I found it kinda funny that you mention it in context with a building that has an ants-y mural on the back! Sorry, I'm just in a silly mood...

Back to topic: I agree with Jason, don't hesitate to tinker around with it until you are 150% pleased with the result.

I'm glad that you tested this one in game before you released because it does look stupid when the sims are almost taller than the ground floor... are you going to scale its width and height a bit up as well? I don't know how big the original building is, just wondering...

In any case, that's looking like it will be a superb BAT! 4.gif

Nofunk:  It's looking really good.  I have to go with Jason and T Wrecks, though... keep tinkering until it's just what you want.  You'll save a lot of frustration and "if only I would have..." down the road, trust me!  For ploppables, there is a tutorial by SimGoober about making those somewhere... I don't remember where just now, but that's how I learned it.  If nothing else, I can help you with it if need be.  (Unless T Wrecks is still the official modder for the BSP, in which case by all means send it his way!)  2.gif

Here is the latest on Yost for everyone.  I had to ignore it for a day or two... but I'm back at it now.  I got all the doors and such done on the South side.  I just hope I did it in the right order.  The front of the building is on the right for anyone who might know enough to check this.

yostwestpreview03co6.jpg

The upper half is a full zoom shot.  I have a few adjustments to make on the surrounds for the arched doors and also the utility door frames, but for the most part it came out pretty well.  I aslo need to put in all the foundation trim... but then I should be able to call this side done.

By done, at this stage, I only mean the major components.  There are tons of details that still need to be added, but those will come later.  There are signs, lights, little pipe stubs, etc etc etc... not to mention a couple windows that get replaced with vents here and there.  So, when I say "done," I don't want anyone to think I'm ignoring all that stuff.  That just comes later according to my personal methods.  21.gif

TWrecks: Hahaha!! Antsy... I didn't even catch that when I wrote it. 9.gif

Yes, I'm very anxious to get Borders done. But I will take all of your advice and keep tinkering until it's just right. But that might be a little while yet, as I'm kinda tired of it right now lol.

So I started something new. I know I said my next project would be Burton Tower, but I was struck with inspiration on my way home from work today...

Does anybody recognize this totally phallic landmark?

Ypsi_Water1.jpg

17.gif

Hahaha... I just had to! On the bright side, this should be *very* quick to complete... as long as I can figure out how to cut holes in those circles I already extruded...

JB: I *LOVE* that detailing between the arches

Nofunk-The scaling is a bit out of whack, but it's nice overall. Oh, and thanks for keeping the canopies.

Simfan: Are you talking about the water tower or the Borders? I know the Borders is out of scale... I plan on rescaling it. The problem with both of these is I don't have any hard numbers to go by... only pictures. I have a pretty good eye, but eyeballing it isn't always going to work out. (I'm sure the water tower is out of scale, too.)

Oh, and there's no way I was going to get rid of the canopies! Ha! Wouldn't be the same building without them. (Well, I guess it would be the same *building* but it wouldn't have the same feel.) I just need to work on the texturing some more.

This seems like a good place to annouce this (As my announcement is Detroit BAT related): I have started BATting the Renaissance Centre, here. I alsready mentioned that I wanted to do this one, but now I have started, so if you want to check it out, or help me out, I'd like to have your guys' professional Detroit critique of my model, as it progresses. Thanks!

JBSimio or TWrecks: Can one of you help me set up a Cs$$ ploppable for the Borders store I designed? I searched around for the tutorial but couldn't find it.

Thanks!!

If you look around the Omnibus, you will find a tutorial by Sg that tells you how to make a ploppable. Let me get you the link.

canuck3360: Hey, that'd be awesome! I'd really appreciate it. I have a few photos, but they're very small and will be hard to use if I want to BAT it.

So I've begun reworking the Burton Memorial Tower. I decided to scrap entirely my old BAT and start from scratch. I'm glad I did, too, because going back and looking at the old one, I can't believe how much I left out. Here's a quick preview of my progress so far, but there's more detail on it in my BAT thread. 4.gif

Whoops, I saw this too late - nofunk, if you get along with that tutorial, it's fine. If you don't, or if you have another question, don't hesitate to contact me. 2.gif I really like your Border's, and I would certainly not mind contributing to it. You will need a custom icon for the ploppable, too... do you know how to make good icons? A funny idea would be to use the ants mural for the icon, hehehe... but I guess that would confuse the users who are not familiar with the building and just provoke a lot of "*****?"s.

EDIT

Aw, c'me on... even harmless abbreviations like w_t_f are censored by the forum software?

The borders could be moved back on the Lot so it could W2W, so it could be URBAN, DENSE,and WALKABLE.

LOL @ T Wrecks!  Who would have thought that you couldn't mention the World Trade Federation on this forum???  Silly censorship, anyway!

I like your suggestion, and if this weren't a Real Life building, I would probably take it. (I love W2W!) However, the real building has an alleyway at the back that allows semis to deliver books (how they maneuver down the narrow alley to the loading dock is beyond me!) And at the side there is also a wide alleyway that leads to the entrance of a parking structure.

I'll consider putting together a W2W version for release, but in Real Life it just isn't oriented that way.
