btw, with these new forums, there is a bug where the last post will not be visible if it is the first post of a new page, and in order to see the post, there must be a 2nd+ post on the page.

edit:

I agree with T Wrecks, but without photoshop, it might be harder to do.  Another benefit, is that the shadows from other buildings would fall on the grass.  If it's modeled with the BAT, the only shadows on it would be from the bleachers.  I personally don't know how to make custom base and overlay textures for the lot editor, but other people do.  What ever you do is up to you though.

It's probably going to remain a model. In real life, the only this that casts a shadow on the field is the stadium itself. To be honest, I'm much more worried about something else I mentioned a long time ago in this thread. The land on which the stadium is built on has a sloped elevation. It slopes a fair amount form the press box side of the stadium (which if you look at the field would be the side the Block M is right side up) to the other side. The entire field sits below ground and is level but on one side there is a brick wall/terrace while on the other side the is not. I.E. The top of the stadium is much higher into retrospect to the ground on one side than it is the other.

Here's a picture I found online that can help illustrate my point to a small degree. BTW, forgive me, but it's got the freaking halo on in the pic but it proves the point. To those who don't know, the halo is the top yellow facade that was an ill received upgrade to the stadium about 5-6 years ago that was so disliked the University took it down aftter one season (maybe 2). Anyways...

Holy hell, it's 2004 again. Go ahead, criticize the Block M....I don't wanna model it...14.gif

Wow, it's been like eons man, how've you been?

I'm still trying to find the bait pile...hmm...where'd you find it?

edit---math sucks...trying to work this model just right from the ground up sucks...stupid gates...architects had no consideraton for SC4 and its crazy out of proportion grid...

I know this thread is big, but you could at least check out the last 3 or 4 pages before asking a question like that.  You can also check out the stex (search for "BSP"), since anything that's finished will be put there.

Plus, we're not a bunch of request fillers, we're a group of people who want to see Detroit landmarks in Sim City, and have started BATing them.

Pretty much almost everyone is here or around who was building previous models.  I'd love to release many of them, as some are almost close to completion.  But now since I'm working an 8-5 an architecture firm + college this fall, I'm incredibly swamped.  Here is what I had been working on.  A few of these may be unfamiliar to some of the BSP members as well:

Ford Field (Detroit) needs domed portion

Dime Building (Detroit) (needs back wall)

Architects Building (Detroit-New Center) (needs textures)

Hudsons Department Store (Detroit) (needs textures)

Packard Motors (Detroit) needs a ton of work

    Brush Park Apartments (half done)

Here is a building I plan on working on because it's entirely CADed:

    Michigan Central Station.

Wolverine, I knew of several and a few I didn't. Looks like a nice list there. If I could be of any help it is yours for the taking. Hope I'm not overstepping but if you'd like I'd love to see Ford Field and could help you finish, you had an amazing start on that and I'd love to help in any way I could. Let me know...

BTW, how's college coming along? Sounds like you're doing pretty damn well. And do you still have access to the university computers for rendering purposes seeing as they have SC4 on them?

Oh and this is just a general question for everyone, how about them Tigers?

College is going really well.  I will be soon applying to grad school, which I don't know where.  But I've been pretty busy this summer working at an architecture firm in downtown Saginaw.  But I've made it down to Detroit a few time this summer to watch them Tigers.

Thanks everyone for offering to help.  I'll probably take you all up on those offers.  What I really need to do is get Ford Field from Gmax to 3ds.  Yes, I know of the quake III plugins, milkshape and all that stuff to get it imported, but it never seems to work because the shapes get seriously distorted.   If anyone is willing to get this moved to 3ds without any problems I'd be really happy.

I convert from gmax to 3ds all the time - never had a problem.  Two catches, though: 1, you lose texturing, and 2, I leave on Sunday for 3 weeks.

Well, perhaps you could do me a favor then?   The file is no longer on my computer, but is backed up somewhere on my university's network.  I'll go on a search for it now and give you a download link.

EDIT:  Fortunately, I don't mind catch 1 since the model doesn't have textures.

Well, since I'm going to be leaving for Chicago this evening and won't be back until late Sunday, I figured I'd just post the link to the Ford Field model download.  If anyone can get this to be a 3ds file I'd be happy.  I trust that no one is going to misuse it for other purposes.

wolverine: Did it! I didn't know you were coming here, maybe we could've met up for coffee or something.

    http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=FAB061567E2F460E

It's in .max and .3ds format. The .max only works with versions 7 and 8, so if you can't use it, try the .3ds.

Whatup.  Ford Field has now been revived.  A very special thanks to you ardecila, completion of Ford Field is now possible.

I can't believe how nice it is to finally have it in 3ds.  No more slow gmax.

This doesn't mean you all will see massive progress within the next few weeks.  I work two jobs, so I will at most get an hour a day to work on it.  But I'll post images when you start seeing a lot changes.  I'm going to start working on the domed portion of the stadium.

Very fine work there wolverine. I'd suspect the roof itself wouldn't be too hard, but whom I to say. Good luck on this...

BTW, were going to have a monopoly on football stadiums.

True that! US Football is conspicuously missing in the SC4 world. It'll be nice to have some different sport choices in terms of stadia available in my plugins folder. 4.gif

I can hear my computer groaning to process SC4 now...

Since there seems to be new life in this thread, I will mention this again.  I'm finally in a position to start contributing, but I need help with reference pictures.  Unfortunately, I'm not able to get around to take my own, so if anyone can help me with pictures (or knows of some good resources), I can start  doing some stuff.  I don't have any specific project in mind either, so I'm open to suggestions or (dare I say) requests.  Thanks!

Well let's start with this.  Would you like to do something early 20th century or more contemporary?

Man, I'd love to see the Guardian Building.  It is a true Detroit landmark..nicknamed the Cathedral of Commerce

Hey JB, I'll be off to AnnArbor here shortly. I'll have those pictures of Yost for you a little later.

As for resources... check out http://www.flickr.com

Requests...whooo, you may have opened yourself up there for Noah's flood...

St. Louis Dude---Thanks but I'm not the only one working on things related to Michigan. Others deserve credit too, you know who you are guys. I'd read a little more in this thread, namely the last 2 pages.

EDIT---Wolverine just posted before me but I agree, the Guardian Building would be friggin sweet. The penthouse might be a burdensome...

I concur! The Guardian looks freakin' sweet! It would make a very fine addition to the STEX. 4.gif

Glad to see you guys going again. Can't wait to see what's in store.

    City projects RULE! 3.gif
