The Uniroyal tire would be awesome, I remember going past that on the way to Metro Airport. Are Kroger, Boston Market, Target, and Dunkin' Donuts Michigan-only places?

If I could make a suggestion, I think it would be cool to make either Tiger Stadium or the Joe, although I don't know how hard those would be to make. Although I do like the idea of someone finally making some Michigan landmarks, especially the RenCen!

Sorry about not getting these to the request thread. I will do my best to get them there in the future.

To respond, Krogers is a regional grocery chain. There are quite a few in MI but they also exsist in Ohio and Tennessee for sure and I believe several other states. Boston Market is everywhere as is Target. Dunkin Donuts I'm not so sure on but I know they're huge in Boston. When I was there 10 yrs. ago there was one on every corner. Kinda like CVS here.

If you want a truly regional store try Meijers. To my knowledge it only exsists in Ohio and Michigan although it may have expanded beyond that in the past couple of years.

    That's it for now. Later.

Ah yes, meijer! Although I now live in Michigan, I used to live in Indiana and they have them there too.

I would hope if some one is doing some Detroit skyscrapers, they would do something other than the ren cen. How about the fisher building, the pensobscot, comerica tower, or the guardian? Something with style. Maybe its just me, but when Portman was hired to build something that would define the city's skyline (and supposed to be a symbol of its rebirth), I hoped he would have used some innovation and not copy one of his Peachtree Tower from a year earlier. No wonder he considered the Ren Cen project a failure!

Sweet ideas for landmarks. Meijers would be awesome to have in SC4. I live just below Lansing and we have about three local meijers. Something like the capital, the locks, or Detroit skyscrapers would also be interesting in the game. Issomeone actually making these or is this just a wish list? If someones making them I can't wait.3.gif

I agree that the Ren Cen needs to be build and Comerica Tower would be nice as well.

But I also think Ford Field needs to be built.

Don't forget Troy, Michigan based K-Mart!  Also I would love to see some of the other buildings in Troy, like the Liberty Center, the Top of  Troy Building, the Colombia Building, the SBC(Ameritech) Building, the Troy Marriot, an Exit 69 Big Beaver Road sign(I-75), the Chrysler's building in Auburn Hills, the Detroit Free Press building in Royal Oak, the American building in Southfield, and many other of the Southfield buildings!

I don't support the K-Mart idea for one reason and one reason only. K-Mart sold items of the Marthat Stewart line and she is the anti-christ!!!!!! The woman is pure evil. What she did was undermine the common man of a legitmate chance to cash out on a bad stock just so she could make an easy buck. Shame on her! For that reason alone I have boycotted K-mart for life. Why support a store that supports a convicted crook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has become obvious however that some Michigan Landmarks are really desired to be made so hopefully someone with some skills to make them will read this! Since I have no skills with the BAT yet I appreciate anyone who has the ability to make these!

Yeah, I was thinking about starting off easy in the BAT by making some of those high rise along the Big Beaver East Corridor.  If someone is really talented, maybe Somerset Mall which is also in Troy could be built so it stretches across Big Beaver road.

I will probably try building the Colombia building first before I do any of the harder stuff.
    /idealbb/files/columbia1.jpg

    Um, the road sign.....
    /idealbb/files/021202-exit69-5.jpg

I'm not sure I like the Southfield buildings, but I also hope to get stuff around Ann Arbor such as my residence hall - Couzens 1.gif
    /idealbb/files/couzenshall.jpg

I really hope to start making these this summer.

I'm glad there is some other Michigan people around here.

Yeah, I also thought about making some of the area's buildings. A couple weeks ago after sim city crashed 5 times, I decided to try Philbo's BAT tutorial. Its pretty good, but the whole spline method goes against all the solid modeling techniques I learned way back in the day which was to do bolean operations. I know this goes against how Maxis says to model buildings, but has anyone tried it that way and will it work? To me it seams it would save so much time. Oh well, hopefully I will get the hang of it soon and we can start representing Michigan in the BAT exchange! Where are the rest of the Michigan crew at with gmax skills?

I don't have a ton of time anymore, but I am going to try and model 150 west jefferson, even though the curved front wall and indentations on the front will make it a bit of a challenge. I would really like to see some of the U of M buildings that Albert Kahn did or any Albert Kahn building for that matter. There are so many little details, though, it might take quite a while for it to be modeled.

I'm glad to see so much interest in Michigan landmarks, buildings, ideas, etc. I should have named this the Michigan idea post or something like that. Anyways, I apologize if I offended anyone w/ my K-Mart/Martha Stewart rant but it is what it is. The Southfield Bldg. ideas are so-so- they're not truly exceptional but neat, however if someone wanted to remake the local T.V. stations based in Southfield that would be neat.

A note on the RenCen----This really needs to be made for 2 reasons---
    1. It's probably the most remarkable thing about Detroit's skyline.
    2. It's GM World HQ.

I was thinking about Ford World HQ too...why not make it...All hail the Motor City....

Another thought...there are quite a few World HQ in the Metropolitan Detroit Area....here's just a few......some are repeats

    1.GM
    2.Ford
    3.DaimlerChrysler
    4.Dominos Pizza
    5.Little Caesers
6.Compuware----This is really nice bldg. even has a Hard Rock Cafe
    7.Borders
    8.Comerica

Just a few off the top of my head, feel free to add to this list......

    3 more things.......

Greektown-----This would be an all encompasing area of Greektown in Detroit, perhaps the nicest area in all of Detroit aside from the theatre/stadium area.
The Fox Theatre----Boy I can't belive I forgot this in my original post....very nice building inside and out.
Hockeytown Cafe----Hey why not if you're a Wings fan.

Hopefully the more we post the more people will take notice...

This would be so good to have in SC4. How about adding some MSU things to the list. It seems most people live in the Detroit area and so I don't know much about any of these buildings. One Detroit building I would like to see is the building that holds The Car Show every year (I believe it's Cobb center or something like that.) MSU buildings are Spartan Stadium and The Breslin Center. Also Detroit sports arenas like the Joe, Ford Field, Comerica Park, and the Palace. The Palace would be sweet to have in the game. I would also like to see GM's headquarters. Also some terrains like the dunes on Lake Michigan. How about Celebration Cinema?9.gif

I'm from Alabama. We have Kroger's and Boston Markets but Dunkin' Donuts is a Yankee thing. Krispy Kreme Rocks!!

We need A Honda Plant (From Lincoln, Alabama) and a Mercedes Plant (Near Tuscaloosa, Alabama)

ALabama is the Detroit of the south and may soon be making more cars than Michigan also.

    Target is most definetly needed!

    7-11 exsists in the exchange21.gif

Well I see a Spartan fan has responded. Breslin is okay, just another arena although it looks better than Chrsyler arena...I hate to say that seeing as I'm a U-M alumni, Spartan Stadium okay as well, not nearly as eye appealing as Michigan Stadium. When you get 112,000 people in a stadium like The Big House now thats a site to behold. But, believing in fairness why not allow some MSU landmarks as well....God forbid thought that some one request the Horseshoe from OSU!!!!!!!!

Okay....the car show.....It's held at Cobo Hall....The event is The North American Internation Auto Show....that is a good idea!

More of my ideas....some of these are actually outside of Detroit but important to us all nonetheless....

    1. Faygo Bottling Plant---A true Detroit original. Nuff said!
    2. Bronners----Located in Frankenmuth...This place is the largest Christmas store in the world I believe, all they sell are things devoted to Christmas 365 days a year!
    3. The Sleeping Bear Dunes---Located just outside of Traverse City, and very close to Glen Arbor in the NW corner of the lower penninsula....this place is awesome. The views are remarkable.
    4. The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island----Go to Grand Hotel! for pics.

Nice to see some more Detroit fans here! I would love to see a good rendition of the RenCen and Chrysler's headquarters. I'm not so sure about Ford's world headquarters... always thought that was a pretty ugly complex. Something else I've tried to do (failed miserably, BTW!!!) but would love to see pulled off would be a recreation of the Ford's River Rouge complex. It could never be a lot, but it would be awesome to see someone take on one of the largest industrial complexes in the world.

I was about to type Ford Rouge Plant, but then I was like, NO.  It would take months to complete and it is hard to get accurate pictures of place since the facilities there are under renovation or construction.

Speaking of Lansing, I'm sure someone can whip up a few MSU buildings, I won't disagree with that.9.gif11.gif.  Also, why not that baseball stadium where the Lansing Lugnuts play?

Michigan has some really fascinating sports arenas.  I have to say, I think we have the best collection around.  Another suggestion, Yost Ice Arena.

    /idealbb/files/YOST.jpg

Here is one of the suggested Kahn buildings.  This is Angell Hall.  I think it was University Hall when it was first built.  It houses some of the academic advisors for the university.

I was also thinking about the Rouge Plant, it's big, but damn is it ugly. Just a big, big factory. I must agree with Wolverine on this one. Nothing special about this place except it's size and the amount of pollution it creates. Yost Ice Arena!!!!!Fantastic idea, Fantastc place!!!! You'll never find a cooler place to watch a hockey game.

Budweiserdude, my hometown is Frankenmuth, although I now live in Ann Arbor!!  I know that probably sounds ridiculous, but do you think the World's Largest Christmas store would look good in SimCity.  I mean, it is so strange seeing Christmas stuff around there in August.  Some breweries would be nice.  Frankenmuth used to have a really big one called the Carling Brewery, but it was recently demolished to make way for a shopping center.

Well wolverine I figure what the hell. It's not nearly as important to us Michiganders as some of the other Michigan landmarks but some people just love Christmas and it is one Michigans more unique places. Hell, the whole town of Frankenmuth could serve a purpose if you really think about it. It is one helluva tourist attraction I'll tell ya that. Besides my girlfriend loves Christmas and I'm trying to build a town just for her according to her likes and dislikes and she loves Bronners.

That's pretty funny... I grew up in the Nasty and now live in the Irish Hills near MIS! (That would be another monstrosity to see) I remember that brewery in Frankenmuth quite well.

I agree the Rouge is ugly as sin, but what a complex for the die hard realists out there! Ugly or not, it serves its purpose and made Detroit the place to be for many years. I guess I'm one of the strange ones that finds a certain amount of beauty even in the ugly industrial sector... probably has something to do with growing up in Saginaw.

Farminsim, I can also give you a few more pics of the tower.  I think its wonderful you are working on this.  The only thing we need to be careful on with the Comerica Tower is its scale.  It can be very deceiving from far away because it looks skinnier from a distance, whereas it is a bit fatter up close.

Nice to see a person from Sagnasty, I mean Saginaw.
I think the addition of automotive foundaries would not be all that bad.  I have some pictures of the Saginaw Metalcasting operations (formerlly Gray Iron Plant).  These plants do not have to necessarily be ugly, as today they produce hardly any pollution and most have undergone renovations.

Nice to see we're someone is finally making a Michigan landmark. Thank you Farminsim. I can't seem to find any pics of the lower part of the Comerica bldg either. Whats with the college requests?????? And London? Those don't exsist in MI do they? I think not. My original idea was to post for unique Michigan Landmarks and stores and industries that exsist here in the Great Lake State. Oh well, I was thinking is there anything from the western part of the state or the U.P. worth rendering? The U.P. is nice country but there doesn't seem to be much there. Maybe the Soo Locks? Anything in the Grand Rapids area either? I know Fifth Third ballpark is there.

I'll keep racking my brain for more ideas.........

Thank You for the Continued Support!

Simtropolis depends on donations to fund site maintenance costs.
Without your support, we just would not be in our 24th year online!  You really help make this a great community. *:thumb:

But we still need your support to stay online. If you're able to, please consider a donation to help us stay up and running. This helps sustain a platform where we can share our community creations for years to come.

    STEX Collections

By way of a "Thank You" gift, we'd like to send you our STEX Collector's DVD. It's some of the best buildings, lots, maps and mods collected for you over the years. Check out the STEX Collections for more info.

Each donation helps keep Simtropolis online, open and free!

Thank you for reading and enjoy the site!
