General BAT RELATED Requests

This thread is for requesting things of BAT nature, but not specific BATs in general (for that, go to the BAT Request Thread).

Just a few rules here:

1. Title your post with what you want, say, such as "Ancient Greek Architecture," in some sort of bold and/or underline.

If you're pointing out items on the STEX that forfill an above request, please title it with the request's tiltle with the word "SUGGEST: " in front (ie, "SUGGEST: Ancient Greek Architecture").

2. Images must follow ST rules: 800x600 or 600x800, and no larger. Posting images larger than 800x600 / 600x800 will result in the image being deleted without notice.

3. Please run a Google or STEX search on the STEX first before requesting here.

I don't know what to put here anymore.

    Urban Midrises, Suburban Midrises

Okay, First of all, I am fully aware of the "BAT Request Thread", but my Request is different to that kind, especially since my "demand" wouldn't fit the syntax that is asked for...

As the subtitle says, I'm asking for more midrises. I don't have one or several certain buildings in mind, just the need of more buildings of that general kind to fill quite a lot of gaps in my cities. And I somehow have the feeling, I'm not alone with this (since there are quite a couple of people politely asking for this...).

I'll just give a few examples of what I'm talking about:

    "Urban Midrises"

    azjvk9.png

(from top to bottom, going left to right: The Mondrianesque Appartments (Jen_P), Pinehurst Apartments (creator?), 4x Maxis, Belton Lofts (DuskTrooper), P44mrc_white (SimFox), 2x Maxis, Hansaplatz Wohnhaus 2 (stephenhh), Euro 02 (JRJ), ERJ_EDIFICIOMIRAFLORINO_03 (LBT), Unnamed (for me that is) (SOMY))

Apart from their "close relatives" (the rest of the Maxis buildings, Dusktrooper's Jacinto, Oakendell etc., the rest oft the JRJ-Euro- and the LBT-set, the other versions of the SOMY-building), these are alle "urban midrise" I have (well, maybe I forgot a few, but it can't be many...). And these would be needed for A) non-highrise-cities B) edges of hr-cities C) edges of downtowns D) fillers in hr-cities/downtowns E) other reasons I'm not thinking of right now.

One step up there are quite a lot of highrises, but one step down, there are the

    "Suburban Midrises"

    259wbrd.png

(again, fttb, gltr: Aspen Village Condominium (Jawood), Boomstyle_Terrace (Mattb325), Stranton Apartements (JBSimio), 1x Maxis, Pearl Residential (Delecto), RLS Home - The Claridge (SimGoober), Arbor Woods Apartments (JBSimio))

Again, apart from these and their "close relatives", I have (almost) nothing to fill the (almost) suburban areas, that are a little heavier populated, than just streets of usual (American) Single-Family-Houses. I've got alot of those, just like the highrises.

    Two things to note:

1.)  I also have several sets of rowhouses, but those are another category and don't belong to midrises (Hansaplatz is to large for a normal rowhouse, I like to use the Maxis Modern Apartements as stand-alones (2-4 of them), same for the Boomstyle Terraces)

2.)  I know (and have) the Paris- (porkissimo) & and Kamienica-sets (ferox), but those aren't really helping when creating American-style cities...

So, finally, what I'm asking all you BATers out there:

Please fill up those two pools to bring more diversity into that part of my cities. From my side, there's just a few requirements:

    Urban Midrises:

    - maximum of about 10 stories, otherwise they will become too tall

    - feel free to create everything from stand-alone to wall-to-wall to building-complex

    - lots should be compact (since it is in densely built areas) (except for complexes of course)

    - I personally prefer modern-looking buildings, but that's just me, feel free to create older ones if you prefer those

    Suburban Midrises:

    - maximum of 5 stories

    - usually flat and stand-alone buildings

    - lots with space for parking and recreation

Here's some place I found by accident (I live a mere 5.800 km away from it) and that gives quite good impression, what I'd like to see, it doesn't even matter, in which direction you look...

    http://maps.google.de/?ie=UTF8&ll=37.78346,-122.390378&spn=0.002595,0.013733&t=k&z=17&layer=c&cbll=37.784139,-122.390515&panoid=YUspMq9kWpzXu7ddPy7qgg&cbp=11,325.28,,0,-13.7

I have no idea, who will read this and if "the right people" read this (aka those who could and would actually create such BATs), but I thought, I finally just might try.

    Sincerely

    Yucan

    Universal cross station

I have tried to find a railway station which has rails in all 4 directions. It would be cool if there be also bus and metro connection and monorail. This would be a real enhancement to a citys traffic. An idea similar to this is the Berlin main train station the Berliner Hauptbahnhof. I attached a quick sketchup model. Could someone please bat this for me?

    Thanks

Yucan, if you want midrises, search for jmyers2043's stuff on the LEX - there you will find two packs of office buildings to compete with Ben Tower and Bennet Music Corp, both of which are midrise CO$$.

SUGGEST: VARIOUS BAT RESIDENTIAL/COMMERCIAL/LANDMARK FROM HAWAII

    Hawaii.jpg?t=1293903440

Being raised in Hawaii (now living in California) I'm surprised there are not any buidlings from the Aloha State.  Contrary to what some may think...it's not all grass shack huts.  As evident by the montage above one can see there are various architecture styles in Honolulu and some very modern ones like the kind you see in Asia (since it does have close ties to one another).  A lot of these buildings i've shown are in Google 3D Warehouse with models so if one has a BAT program they can use those models to help them I would think.

I Suggest: Southwestern US Suburban Sprawl-Styled Single Family Homes

Like the name says, single family homes (R$$ R$$$ mainly) as seen in the typical suburban sprawl areas around CA, AZ, NV, NM, where every house looks the same and communities are scratchboard-designed rather than grown.

Here's some random Google Maps and Bing Maps (for birdseye view) examples as areas are actually cluttered with it:

R$$ (I guess, at least these would perfectly fit into R$$ in SC)

Apache Wells Community and adjacent developments, near Mesa AZ (Bing Location)

McDowell Mountain Ranch, near Scottsdale AZ (Bing Location)

Countryside Development, Oro Valley north of Tuscon, AZ (Bing Location)

Green Valley Ranch in Henderson, NV (Bing Location)

Random developments in North LV just west of Nellis AFB, NV (Bing Location)

Orangecrest near Riverside, CA (Bing Location)

    South Corona, CA (Bing Location)

and so on, I guess thats fairly enough to give an idea, although there's certainly thousands more to show

Some R§§§ examples (even though one can sum it up with the typcial agglomoration of mansions as seen in above mentioned states:

Mansions near San Juan Capistrano, CA (Bing Location)

Some at Rolling Hills, CA (Bing Location)

world famous Bel Air, CA (Bing Location)

agglomoration in Scottsdale, AZ (Bing Location)

scattered mansions at Sandina Heights, NM (Bing Location)

that's about my request. A lot of repetitiveness around within these neighborhoods, people hate it or love it, I do the latter, and since only the Huston tileset slightly touching the particular bulding style, I think an ok request. 2.gif

    Hello All!

I've tried learning gmax/BAT/LotEditor but just don't have the patience for it. Some folks on here have a real mastery the art and I'd like to tap into thier talents.

One thing lacking in the SC4 custom-content community is the way agri-business and industry come together in big cities. I've found a few great rural grain elevators/storage silos but no real "hyperterminal" where regional grain is consolidated into long trains and sent to global market through coastal ports.

One example stands just s few miles from where I sit right now...the colossal DeBruce Grain structure. A Google images search will yeild photos of the beast in it's crippled state following a massive grain-dust explosion in 1998. I felt the explosion at Derby High School, where I was making up a failed semester of sophmore English-6.5 miles away.

Another example sits on the north end of metro Wichita, in the old industrial area of town. The abandoned monster is nearly 1500 feet end-to-end, has two seperate storage structures which straddle a single rail and sits between two major railyards. From our local newspaper:

"DeBruce Grain has put its grain elevators at I-135 and 25th North on the market - and a more unusual piece of industrial property in Wichita is hard to find. The elevator, at 1400 E. 25th St. North, is 100 feet tall, more than 100 feet wide and 1,500 feet long. Built in the 1950s and owned by several owners, the grain terminal hasn't been used since 2002 and is not operational. Kris Wessel, an agent with Grubb & Ellis/Martens Commercial is primarily marketing it based on the 7.5 acres of vacant land immediately south of the elevator. The land sits between Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks, has fabulous visibility from I-135 and is zoned for general industrial."

    Here's a link to reference photos: s41.photobucket.com/albums/e297/79FordKiller/Grain%20Elevator%20research/

Obviously, a 1500-ft long structure would be way too massive in SC4. I'm imagining something that functions in a similar manner (TE'd for frieght truck/train), provides I-AG and/or I-D jobs, uses lots of power and moderate water, generates moderate garbage but pollutes little or nothing.

As for physical characteristics, the structure should consist of a tall headhouse (where the lifting/sifting/filtering/drying mechanisms are), either aligned at one end of or centered between storage bins. The storage bins should feature a flat roof which may be square and overlap the bins slightly or "trimmed" to fit directly on top of them. A distribution system should extend from the headhouse to each of the storage bins in the form of a covered conveyor (a simple windowed long rectangle that sits atop the roof-see photos) or more complicated (and less common) tubular screw-lift system (like what's seen on the rehabilitated north end of the DeBruce monster). All will feature some forms of dust collection systems attached to the exteriors, usually on the roof near the headhouse with tubes running about. One side of the elevator would feature a structure at the base of the headhouse large enough for a few grain trucks to drive in and deposit thier cargo and a staging area for others to line up. The opposite side of the headhouse would have an overhead rack to load several rail cars simultaneously on multiple tracks. These concrete elevators are usually left in the natural finish, but many smaller ones are often painted white to mitigate some solar heating in the summer (so I'm told). These sites may also be home to some type of milling operations as well, usually housed in a multi-storied brick-and-window box at one end of the elevator with direct access to rail and truck (photos of a local example will soon be added to Photobucket link above).

I may not be cut out for the modeling, but I'm very willing and able to gather whatever information and additional photos a developer may need. I greatly appreciate any interest in picking up this project. Thanks for looking!

This is from a Japanese Anime/Manga called gunslinger Girl.

    The Social Welfare Agency, without going into detail it is a facility that turns children into Gov't assasins. According to the videos and book illistrations the agency occupies an old monestary complex. Using this context in SC4 this BAT or lot could fulfill the following services;

Police, the children are useed by the gov't to combat the mob and terror networks

Hospital, the children are enhanced with cybernetics as well as the agency releasing some of it's tech and medical discoveries to the public, should have the stats of a small clinic

School, the kids have to be somewhere when they are not whacking bad guys, since the agency could be funded by it's sale of it's med tech it could have the stats of a private school.

Maybe this idea can help someone make a multi-funtion lot/BAT like this without looking rush or poorly thought out.

    Coast Desirability Increaser

Hi! So this is the general BAT request thread... I'm requesting BATs that would increase the desirability of coasts.

Coasts should be more attractive than inland (see Palm Jumeira), but this is not implemented in SC4 and to my knowledge there's no mod so far that would do this.

The execution of this function should be IMO something that can be placed into the sea, and would have landmark effect. Maybe it should have other effects too. It should be free to place and maintain or at least cost little. I'm not sure if it should be visible (a buoy or seagulls e.g.) or invisible. It should be a pack with a few ranges, like 5 tiles for rivers, 10 for bays and 30 for coasts. You could place these around the shore line, and the high wealth development would be motivated to move to the coasts and banks.

    Opinions?

I like the idea, but in order to boost residential desirability, you'd have to assign a park effect to the lot in question. If you use some sort of ploppable beaches, these already come with a park effect. The downside can be that large lots are susceptible to the crime bug, attracting so much crime that any positive effect is cancelled out.

A buoy or similar stuff shouldn't be too hard to edit - simply open it in LEProp and assign a park effect.

I Suggest: More Beijing and Shanghai highrise buildings

Looking through Simtropolis (and other sites) i have noticed only a small number of highrise buildings from these two cities, there are some fantastic highrise skyscrapers in these two cities that would look great in simcity, and add more variety to those building Chinese style cities.

    Hey all

I got a small request, looking for a sign for a business cent in a commercial area like the one in the screenshot I included.

Doesn't have to be just like this but about the same size, a little taller or wider is fine I would just need the text to be editable. Otherwise you can go with the flow.

The screenshot is a bit blurry because of the size constraints here I had not much choice but I think you can make out the idea anyway

    post-377592-0-55709400-1376937176.jpg

Or if someone knows where I can find a sign something like this all ready that is editable that can point it out for me. I've searched here and the LEX but can't find anything that is editable anyway.

    Thanks for your time!!

It looks like SOMY has also made a few, if you can figure out how to download them from his page.
