hkabat-forum-threads PaulvMontfort's Showcase
Yucan replied to paulvmontfort's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
That Residental is surely a step in the right direction (don't take this too personally though)... I'm so in need of a couple of "small" (3 x 2-6 footprint), modern, glass-y, highrise residentals! -
Urban Midrises, Suburban Midrises Okay, First of all, I am fully aware of the "BAT Request Thread", but my Request is different to that kind, especially since my "demand" wouldn't fit the syntax that is asked for... As the subtitle says, I'm asking for more midrises. I don't have one or several certain buildings in mind, just the need of more buildings of that general kind to fill quite a lot of gaps in my cities. And I somehow have the feeling, I'm not alone with this (since there are quite a couple of people politely asking for this...). I'll just give a few examples of what I'm talking about: "Urban Midrises" (from top to bottom, going left to right: The Mondrianesque Appartments (Jen_P), Pinehurst Apartments (creator?), 4x Maxis, Belton Lofts (DuskTrooper), P44mrc_white (SimFox), 2x Maxis, Hansaplatz Wohnhaus 2 (stephenhh), Euro 02 (JRJ), ERJ_EDIFICIOMIRAFLORINO_03 (LBT), Unnamed (for me that is) (SOMY)) Apart from their "close relatives" (the rest of the Maxis buildings, Dusktrooper's Jacinto, Oakendell etc., the rest oft the JRJ-Euro- and the LBT-set, the other versions of the SOMY-building), these are alle "urban midrise" I have (well, maybe I forgot a few, but it can't be many...). And these would be needed for A) non-highrise-cities B) edges of hr-cities C) edges of downtowns D) fillers in hr-cities/downtowns E) other reasons I'm not thinking of right now. One step up there are quite a lot of highrises, but one step down, there are the "Suburban Midrises" (again, fttb, gltr: Aspen Village Condominium (Jawood), Boomstyle_Terrace (Mattb325), Stranton Apartements (JBSimio), 1x Maxis, Pearl Residential (Delecto), RLS Home - The Claridge (SimGoober), Arbor Woods Apartments (JBSimio)) Again, apart from these and their "close relatives", I have (almost) nothing to fill the (almost) suburban areas, that are a little heavier populated, than just streets of usual (American) Single-Family-Houses. I've got alot of those, just like the highrises. Two things to note: 1.) I also have several sets of rowhouses, but those are another category and don't belong to midrises (Hansaplatz is to large for a normal rowhouse, I like to use the Maxis Modern Apartements as stand-alones (2-4 of them), same for the Boomstyle Terraces) 2.) I know (and have) the Paris- (porkissimo) & and Kamienica-sets (ferox), but those aren't really helping when creating American-style cities... So, finally, what I'm asking all you BATers out there: Please fill up those two pools to bring more diversity into that part of my cities. From my side, there's just a few requirements: Urban Midrises: - maximum of about 10 stories, otherwise they will become too tall - feel free to create everything from stand-alone to wall-to-wall to building-complex - lots should be compact (since it is in densely built areas) (except for complexes of course) - I personally prefer modern-looking buildings, but that's just me, feel free to create older ones if you prefer those Suburban Midrises: - maximum of 5 stories - usually flat and stand-alone buildings - lots with space for parking and recreation Here's some place I found by accident (I live a mere 5.800 km away from it) and that gives quite good impression, what I'd like to see, it doesn't even matter, in which direction you look... http://maps.google.de/?ie=UTF8&ll=37.78346,-122.390378&spn=0.002595,0.013733&t=k&z=17&layer=c&cbll=37.784139,-122.390515&panoid=YUspMq9kWpzXu7ddPy7qgg&cbp=11,325.28,,0,-13.7 I have no idea, who will read this and if "the right people" read this (aka those who could and would actually create such BATs), but I thought, I finally just might try. [2010] Lot Editor and Plug-in Manager - Forum Archive

What now? Hello everyone I've got this beautiful Residental building, but it's too large to get it to grow... (I know the 2 "tricks"/"ways": 1) build, while whole zone is under construction (its hard to get that much zoned area to grow at the same time); 2) create large zone with Ctrl+drag (this just doesn't work... search for my posts, nobody seems to be able to help me on this...)) ... so I want to create a Commercial Version of the building, that I then can plop with BuildingPlop... What I've got: - copies (renamed) of original building: .SC4desc - file .SC4model - file .SC4lot - file - SC4 Tool - SC4 Lot Editor But from this point on, I don't know what to do... I have my guesses and already tried this and that (changed some stats of the copied files), but it didn't really work out the way I wanted it to... So I'm just asking what to do... with all the hard work already done, it shouldn't be that hard to do what I want to do, doesn't it? Thanks for helping! Sincerely Yucan- 284 Replies

All I want to do, is create a Commercial Version of a Residental Building. But I don't really know, what I have to do for that... - I copied the folder containing a .SC4Desc, a .SC4Lot and a .SC4Model and renamed the folder - I opened the (new) .SC4Desc and the SC4Lot and changed the stats in both, including the file-names - This created two .sav files, one for each of them - The .SC4Model file is untouched, as it should be, since I didn't do anything with the model (and don't want to) So, now, what to do? (And this is where the LE comes in) First I thought, I now have to change the building of the new lot, because it would still use the old (residental) building. But there is no new lot, just the old (residental) one. So I thought, I have to create a new lot with the new (commercial) building, but when I open the building-list, there's just the residental one. This obviously isn't just LE-related, more to the (or my first) general understanding of modding beyond simply rearranging lots. But still, anybody want to help me? Also, totally unrelated, but I haven't found help on this one yet: Why is my ctrl-zoning not working? (and never has for me) (sidewalks appear, but no zone, and nothing is built, and when rezoning without pressing ctrl, there are no restrictions (as if there were, if there already were a zone). using german DE btw)

This reminds me of a problem/bug I had quite some time before: (I know that it seems to be different and, in fact, might not be related at all, but still...) I was in the middle of creating a large city when suddenly, out of nowhere, my Mayor Rating crashed and burned, meaning it went from "full green" to "full red" without any apparent reason (every other rating was fine, there was no reason for the decline whatsoever). This happend over the course of about 2-3 (ingame-)months - would be good to know, if yours jumped from one moment to the other or just over a short amount of time. Anyway, there was no way to fix this (even stuff like Radical Ordinance didn't stand a chance). Well, what I wanted to say was: Even though SC4 seems to be without major bugs (apart from the plugin-caused CTDs), from time to time, one appears out of nowhere and does not seem to be fixable... I never had any problems with my Mayor Ratings before and after that specific city. So, i guess, if you don't have a backup of that city (I'm doing that with all my "great" cities to be sure whatever might happen), it's lost - sorry mate. Yucan

Hey everyone I'm using quite a lot of large Res buildings at the moment an made it without this feature for quite a while (by creating Zone-clusters, hoping that the whole cluster is developped at the same time and then plop the building), but it just does not want to work right now, so I finally post the problem I have: I know, that you can create Zones of pretty much every desired size by pressing "Ctrl" while zoning. But that does not work with me. What happens is: while dragging - no Zone (well, no color) appears - there is the price-tag of the whole Zone when created - the Zone (meaning the color) does not appear, the ground is still visible - sidewalks appear (but seem to disappear after a while - I have not seen them disappear, just noticed they weren't there anymore after looking at the spot again after quite a while) - the "phantom-Zone" is paid for after creation - zoning the same area again (without Ctrl!), Zones of the usual size are created - zoning the same area again (with Ctrl!), using the same density, I get the 0$-price-tag, as if there actually already was a Zone - waiting for something to be build, nothing happens (except for the sidewalks disappering, as I said earlier) Two additional information: - it's the same with all types of Zones and densities - I'm using the german Deluxe version right now, having played the german vanilla+RH before with the same problem... So, anybody with an idea to get this to work? Yucan

There's a lot of things that bug me... but having played the Demo a bit, there's one thing that stands out at the moment: Lot size I think, one of the biggest accomplishments of SC4 was the Lot-System. Sure, it was still grid and often does not behave the way I'd like to, but it made it possible to have large buildings (factories, malls, those new HK complexes), as well as tiny ones (diners, pencil towers) With CitiesXL you have one Lot size. Yeah, that road needs an upgrade, so I have to demolish both buildings on both sides and afterwards there's an alley, but also a huge gap in the middle of the city. That bothers me most - right now after playing the demo (there's still the lack of terraforming and public transport, two things that might bother me even more)

I'm sorry, I don't really want to capture this thread... but my demand is going crazy for quite a while now and I don't see why... As far as I can see, other people seem to have the problem as well, that they need a lot more commercial/office, than they should be. A normal ratio (in a larger city) seems to be (and has been until quite a while ago) about 1,5 citizens : 1 job But this has shifted, first it became about 1 : 1 (and stayed like that), then 1 : 1,1 and now it became worse again (town of 750.000 res / 800.000 jobs, if I load it now, my res. drops by 100.000 without changing anything at commercial). Yes, I am using a few mods. Yes, I do have the Commercial/Office-demand-ordinances. No, they are not checked in the game. No, I did not change anything (that has in any way to do with demand) recently, but still the thing I mentioned above happens. And, again, I'm sorry to post this here, I already posted this once (at least I think) but still wasn't able to solve this. To remember what this thread was about, here's what cpsof95 said: What is it that I don't understand? My city has about 2000 residents, loads of farms and some dirty industry. Route query reveals that only about 60-70% of available jobs are filled. So I decide to zone more residential zones, but they don't level up and R§ demand goes negative. Meanwhile, demand for IR and ID are always at maximum. What's going on?

1. Vancouver (surprised I haven't seen this yet... awesome city) 2. Barcelona 3. Geneva 4. Freiburg (i.Br./Ger) 5. New York

Well, I use XP, as I did before, so I don't think it's an OS-problem...

It has been some time since I posted this problem... but it isn't really solved... Here's what has "happened" since then: Remember that region I revisited which was missing some trees? 1) I tried to build something in one of those towns and dragged a road into an area with trees.. bam, straight to desktop, went there again, tried the same in the same city at a slightly different position, same crash again. Doesn't happen if there are no trees affected, but if there are any trees (from before the whole re-install-thing), no chance, instant game crash... 2) That kind of trees I was missing? I have found those (it think they were Jeronij... doesn't matter) (I have to admit that I haven't yet tried to enter one of the cities above), but the lagging- (or slow-game-)problem remains. I can build cities without any bigger problems (well, sometimes there still are, but I haven't figured out why in those cases), but as soon as I plant trees via God-Mode, the game goes into slow-mode. 3) The problem occurs, whatever Tree-Mod I use, doesn't seem to matter. Finally, I want to try to explain a bit better, what exactly my problem is (the symptoms that is): - Dense Forest => moving around with the camera leads to "stuttering" - Planting Trees in God-Mode => it seems like trees are one planted like once a second (meaning: as if I was clicking once every second, so it takes ages to plant larger areas), instead of smoothly and fastly creating a dense forest - Pulling a network through a forest => game pauses for a second or two, before the network is laid out These things do not appear, when I don't have God-Mode-Forests, for example, I laid out a huge airport without a problem, before making the mistake of "adding some green"... And, as a final finally: The weirdest thing is, if I create a forest with the same trees via Mayor-Mode (which takes even longer), it can be as dense as it can be, without the mentioned problems occuring So, long talk by me, gimme your suggestions / help (the latter is preferred ) Yucan Quick Update: Just did some fast additional testing with more weird results... - a full frame of standard Maxis large parks (with the standard trees) leads to major lagging - a full frame of Maxis large schools (2 trees/12 tiles) leads to slight lagging (stronger if zoomed in) - a full frame of Maxis large fire stations (1 tree/6 tiles) leads to no visible lagging - a full frame of some UC-buildings with no trees leads to no lagging - a full frame of roads lead to no lagging as well maybe this helps...

Even though it (sometimes/often) is pretty populist itself, you get quite a good view on all of this via The Daily Show (with Jon Stewart)... These rallies seem to be not just directed at these huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge tax hikes, but, as it was pointed out before here, at the wasteful spendig of the government (but it was on the US tax day, so that it would appear it was against taxes... which sounds like a pretty good crowd-getter to me). Now don't get me wrong: In my opinion, these rallies are ridicuilous. I respect people for demonstrating for what they believe in, but as most of you are thinking, those reasons are faked and this is just a show for Republicans, who are behaving worse than small kids after they didn't get what they wanted, since the Dems. won the election. Fear-mongering is the word of the hour (of the "left wing" anyway) and even though I'm used to it (well, im European, so I just know what I see on television or read and see on the Internet), what's currently going on via the Republican Party and the media (see Rush Limbough and, of course, fair and balanced Fox News) is right out ridicilous and even scary. Hm Madrid? London in 2012, so I don't think it'll be Madrid in 2016... Chicago? As beebs said it, Atlanta in '96, Salt Lake City in '02 and Vancouver in 2010, and you can add LA in '88 to that... but you could read this the other way as well, that they like North America Rio de Janeiro? Brazil is going to get the 2014 FIFA World Cup and I'm pretty sure Rio will get a few games of those, but that might be a reason against as well as a reason for giving them the Olympics... still, while I love Rio de Janeiro (from distance!), I'm afraid how safe it could possibly be... Tokyo? Seems quite probable in my eyes, but isn't really my favorite somehow

Hey everyone (once again) Since I recently reinstalled the game, I'm experiencing some rather annoying lagging for obviously different reasons, but right now I'm on a different case. After I loaded an old (backupped) city, I noticed that there's a lot of trees missing... I have no idea if that might be yet another reason why the game is lagging, but it actually doesn't seem so, since the (quite fully developped) city runs with much less lagging than cities I'm starting from scratch at the moment. Anyway - I don't remember the name of the trees, I can neither find em on the STEX, nor in any ReadMe- or Dependency-List of Mods I use. But while investigating, I noticed that I'm missing some options in the Mayor-Mode-Tree-Departement as well I I think that those two things are connected. So before showing you a picture of the trees (a screenshot I luckily made at some point...), those M.-M.-T.-Options I'm missing were quite useful, since you could plant the trees with different "styles", I remember two different "Mediterrean" Options for example, also "Leafy Green Forest" (or sth. like that), which mostly plants excatly those trees I'm missing. So, here's the picture: Yucan
