So I opened 160-170 Water Street finally and did nothing except have a HQ preview render done to show ya'll this(that I should have showed like a month ago 3.gif)

    10xbmef.png

The base...I didn't add the revolving doors(I think that's what they are from the pic) yet but that's basically what the base will look like. I might add little details like some signs. What do ya'll think about it?

looks good. I would desaturate the red a little and the revolving doors might be a little too green/yellow, but it's fine otherwise assuming the plane below them will be changed/removed

Whoa, the picture is very blurry - the posters have all fuzzy edges. I guess that#s due to the strong JPEG compression, though, as there are lots of typical compression artifacts to be seen in that shot. As long as you stick to small file sizes (up to 200-300 kB), you're really better of with PNGs as these feature a lossless compression and make it easier to judge small details. JPEGs are fine for an overall impression of the entire thing or rough scale/proportion adjustment, but when things get tiny, PNG is more suitable.

Anyway, I'm with Paul concerning the desaturation. Apart from that, the building is really looking nice and should make for a great filler for any city. Nice to see you still chugging along!

TWrecks- Hmm the pic was actually clear at first...ah oh well. I have some new PNG Pics that should suffice now, sorry for the late reply.

I haven't done much so far, so I'm sorry, but these pics so far should be clearer than the last. :P

    Zoom 5 at the base.

BTW, I can't desaturate the posters because they are solid red untextured. :nyah: Well...so I need to stop being lazy.:ohyes:

Looking at the picture on this monitor (I'm not at my own PC atm), I'm wondering about the overall colour hue. It appears somewhat greenish/yellowish here. Have you tried picking a Maxis building that features a similar colour as your BAT is supposed to be (if such a building exists) and photoshopping your BAT next to it to check whether it fits right in or stands out? You can also use the pipette tool on a suitable reference shot and on a render of your BAT to compare colour palettes the way Jason often does when he comments. Then again, these things are hard to judge without comparison - it might just be that the colours on this monitor are totally out of whack. Oh, and you should really stop being lazy because I think that the STEX could do with some more Pepper! :thumb:

EDIT: Hmm, on my laptop things already look a lot better. I guess my monitor at work is really not calibrated all too well. In any case, the comparison technique should be helpful. If a BAT looks in line with Maxis on monitor XYZ, it will look in line with Maxis on any monitor.

^^^ I agree, you must have spent much time to make this roof junk. Great job :)

I think the glass is looking good now - it has just the right amount of contrast and variation. :) Are those red thingies in the shop windows still untextured red objects? Don't forget to change those by tuning down the red a little before you export - it would be an annoying little nuisance on a great overall model if they remained unfixed.

As the others said, there's quite a lot going on on the roof. If you manage to make the roof textures as good as the rest, this should be a really superb filler building. 8)

I haven't posted an update in awhile, but even as I was dormat I've done some things to 170-160 Water Street. This is the most recent stuff-

    35hr7gh.jpg

    a0bdrr.jpg

I'm still not done with the roof or details on the base or the other sides of the buildings. I can't remember why I went ahead and started some night lighting but I can tell it needs work also.

I know it looks semi close to finishing but I still got a long way to go before its done. Any thoughts?

EDIT: To finally answer your belated question T Wrecks, no I still haven't textured those red signs. :P I think I might just get rid of them but then again it'll be some nice detail to the base. I'll just have to finally get to texturing them soon. I've been more focused on the roof and the textures of everything on the roof...trying to get it right.

Wonderful Sgt pepper. This building facade is just wow. Very realistic. And the night light looks good, I like the way curtains are half closed and nitelited windows are un-regular. That is adding some more realism in your night renders.

This looks almost finished. :) and thank you too for your helpful comments in my topic.

I wrote a long post regarding Max and how GMAX is perfect for smaller buildings as proved by Madhatter/Spa etc..but it deleted it :(

In summation, I agree with Aaron..you have gotten the best you will be able to get out of GMAX for the kind of Skyscrapers you make..which is a compliment..but also encouragment to try your best ot get Max :)

    Thank you all. :)

About the oddity of how my BATs are displayed. I have noticed that searching for them specifically will yield the results, but clicking on my profile and looking at my files or clicking on "See Sgt Pepper's other files" doesn't show everything I released... Interesting...

But I started on the HSBC Bank Building in the Financial District of New York. I'm afraid it'll most likely not be the most painstaking accuracy but very close enough. I did the measurements from Google Earth as usual...I'm sure that it is fine. But other than a few basic shapes and details, there's not much to see right now--

EDIT: Damnit, Made a huge miscalculation on this stucture. Have to start from scratch.

Well I started over and got this so far...

    ixy25i.png

But now I have another problem...

    e167v9.png

The mullions,(and they are all one attached object) suddenly became distorted with odd splines and shadows. I think this happened when I accidentally selected the mullions with the compound object button or tab. But...I never noticed until I done s0 many more things so I couldn't just undo it...if that is even the cause.

Anyone know how t0 fix such a thing?

(o key is randomly acting up again)
