Given the limitations of gmax, your glass looks absolutely amazing! I would never have the patience to make each of those maps for the glass. My only advice would be to try to get the same look in the upper glass panes as you have in the lower ones. Right now the upper ones have that strange rectangular pattern. Also, I'd hold off on darkening the windowless section until you have more of the model finished. Then you can decide whether it really needs to be darker or not. You've really done a fantastic job with it so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing this progress.

I'd like to know how you made that effect on the window, on the bottom, where the reflection is, is it how the texture is, or is there something on Gmax that can generate that effect.

I've done little with the Random House Building, not much to show...so I'm showing something else I decided to do- The New York City Police Headquarters! I just had to do it someday...

    34yy97l.jpg

Okay so it has been a while and my knowledge has most likely completely faded...so I have a question or two.

    wtu5vm.jpg

Are my windows too short? Do they look right? Does the thing appear proportionally off? Floor heights to small?

I'd appreciate some feedback guys. I'm trying to get back with it despite school being around.

    Thanks Paul. 9.gif

I'm still working on some window stuff and small fractions of the base(that I can see). I'm wondering if anyone can find some pictures of the building's base to help me? Google Street View isn't that helpful since there is only one side that can see barely part of the base.

maikeli, I appreciate some of those pics, though I all ready knew what the building's color was. 3.gif

    Thanks kakado. 4.gif

I haven't done much modeling wise but I did some very basic texturing-

    34g2gyq.jpg

The tiling bothers me....Todd, if you have a link to that tutorial you showed me I think it would be great for me to apply it here. 9.gif I also need to shrink the size of the tiles, since they aren't that big in RL(even though I still might have to emphasize them). There's a little person(near the two columns connecting to the ground) that shows a scale comparison I guess. Looks about right to me. As soon as I get finished with most of the modeling I'm shipping this thing off into Gmax.16.gif

It is in my signature 2.gif

I really don't see the point of texturing until you get it out of sketchup anyway. You can't make a render so you can't get a good idea of how it will look in game. Use them just as a placeholder, sure, but don't spend too much time on it now.

If you can get your hands on 3dsmax, do it. Even if the whole "blending into the game" thing is still a hot topic to you, gmax is just a crappy piece of software. It's only place in the world is the proverbial dustbin. But that's just my opinion. Even before I started using 3dsmax, I never liked gmax. I tried picking up the BAT when I joined in 2006, but I couldn't stand that horrible program. 3.gif Took me two years and a license for 3dsmax before I actually started BATing!

I like the building, it looks interesting, and i don't think I have to tell you that you'll need some more windows on it (you propably already know that)2.gif

The rendering is awful, but you can't be blamed for that.

I'm looking forward to further progress4.gif
