What frustrates you about sim city 4

I hate the abandonment of buildings due to "commute time", which actually means the residents looked everywhere in the city for a job and couldn't find one. Like someone else said earlier, the radii for civics (schools, hospitals, fire/police) are way too small. The music in mayor mode gets repetitive over time, and my mass transit stations are either hardly used or over-capacity.

For me, the game kept crashing or having graphics glitches because I play it on Windows 7, but after using the recommended compatibility settings it works perfectly.

Ahh, I hate that too!

Does anyone else get annoyed when you try to make a nice little R$ or R$$ town or suburb and huge R$$$ mansions start building everywhere?

Well, there is a stop maxis mansions from growing mod located right here

However if you want a town with mansions you are going to have to move the mod out.

I personally like the mansions. Thing is they spring up everywhere but they are Mattb325 mansions so they are not those ugly, tiny, mansions,

One of the general frustrations is keeping up with the plugins I have.  The NAM keeps getting bigger and more elaborate.  The learning curve for a new player must be absolutely staggering.

Cement trucks alltogether.

New furstration: Why those idiot sims won't walk across the street to the store to work instead of driving 5 miles to a factory and end up abandoning. I HATE THIS! WORST THING EVER DONE TO THIS GAME!

Also I hate the ACCESS-VIOLATION trash in the trash that EA programmed into this game called Exception Reports. Whoever thought up that tatic should have an exception.

i do think CDT is the worst thing, tho in my case is limited to dualcore issues, so i only have to set afinity to 1 of the procesors and the games runs just fine....

Please tell me how i run one of my cpus from my duel core to 1. I dont fully understand this but I have read many crashes have been prevented by only using 1 processor for the game completely. I presume that would make sense & the other should be there just as backup if game fails & seriously you shouldn't be running anything else in background so cpu is distracted from the game.

I have some of the same as yours. Mine are

The unsiutable grade for construction

Buildings growing over and over again that are the exact same buildings.

As for crashing, you all know that I have several ways of working it out. Such ad defraging the disks, disk cleanup, I also have to fix my registry every day. Save often. Also you can make SC4 run out of a command line. It makes the game less vunerable to crashes. It is a bit detailed process to doing so, if anyone is interested in knowing how you can PM me.

  • The FRIGGIN Auto-Togglinance Ording Spam26.gif
  • Terrain too step when it's 1 mt pf difference
  • Building designs that grow like weeds
  • You raise taxes to 20% to ID and IM and lower taxes to 0% to IHT, have 200 IQ, place insane parks and ID and IM grow like weeds.
  • Riots for no reason
  • The insanely good routing system. Save 1 tile by taking a side, residential, clogged street instead of taking the empty freeway, even with NAM
  • Avenues, roads, etc filled to 300% and mass transit empty.
  • Concrete truck spam when UDI
  • Any car "spawining" inside you when UDI (go and stand still in front of a police station and you'll understand). Gets one *** long annoy when concrete trucks spawn
  • Cops with (ROFL)Copters spamming my *** when doing UDI "A special load of garbage"22.gif
  • Getting caught in UDI missions when nothing was around. i.e like in "A special load of garbage"
  • Getting caught with the police choppa when doing UDI "Hijack the train", when on unzoned, empty forests.
  • The friggin UDI missions when you have to go to seaports and crash all the time i.e "RX delivery"
  • Insane tank shooting controls
  • When I click options, hover over save... CRASH!!32.gif
  • Bridges on land. Seriously, it does happen.
  • Jet fighter seems to go at the same speed of a skywriter.
  • Jet fighter bomb drops in 90238904327589346 x 32895793256 meters away from wanted spot

This is from this thread. You can also use Startup Manager to use different profiles/plugins and startup configurations.

I'll try to add something to try. Go to your application properties by right clicking on the SC4 icon and add the command: -CPUCount:1

For example I have this as my shortcut link: ">ff -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -CPUCount:1

This forces SC4 to only use one CPU on dual/quad core systems. This is really useful if you don't have the affinity option.

So far my copy of SC4 deluxe seems to be running much smoother and hasn't crashed yet. I can only hope this is a permanent fix for me as well as others.

(btw, playing SC4 on a 32" HDTV monitor @ 1080p is schweeeeeeeeet!)quote>

The number one issue in this game it the CTD issue. I have made a thread about possible causes, here is a link: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=24&threadid=116952&enterthread=y

The other big issue is the inconsitancy of random buildings. I guess this is goind to be the same with any game, like CXL, I have the same skyscrapers growing across the street from each other, sometimes right next to each other. These are some things that we can't stop unless we want tons of buildings. It would be too much for the producer of the game to make this not happen.

Oh, I really hate the sound of the helicopters. As soon as I build a large medical center or large police station, I have to turn off the sound of the game because of the annoying humming of that helicopter that seems to be in the air 24/7.

LOL! 9.gif Well I deleted all Maxis songs, or I just mute ingame sound and listen to my music 4.gif

And the maxis large medical station is just so funny....the radious is way to small for a helipad 4.gif

I'd expect at least a 81 square km of coverage for a helicopter.... (3 x 3 large city tiles)

The thing I hate the most is crashes and freezes. It just happens too many times. Sometimes the game freezes or crashes during saving the game, I really hate that. Something else I hate is that I'm sometimes forced to delete cities because they crash almost immediately after starting the simulator, on whatever speed  I choose. Other things I hate are:

- Ferry's who can't go under some bridges, even though the game says they can, on whatever suitable height I build them

- Unsuitable grade to build. On an area which is completely flat...

- Spam about those messages if you like to build something, especially if the population is between 10.000-50.000 I'm busy with clicking away those stupid, useless messages

- Running the game for a couple of months with no power/water and all public transportation stops already build - you'll need to rebuild them, otherwise the Sims just don't use it at all

- Boxes

- Lot repeating

- Load/scroll times

- Vehicles spawning just in front or in your car in UDI

- The subway screen always lags like crazy

- Impossible to build diagonal bridges/tunnels

1. No diagonal bridges

2. Zoning on diagonal roads

3. Crash to desktop

4. Disappearing cars

5. Cities must be a square

-Finnicky ferry placement. It might just be the maps I've used, but it seems very picky about what slope ranges are allowed(why does it even matter when half of it will be on flattened land and the other half over water?).

-Repetitive messages, especially the ones about tax rates. Yes, I know that the rich hate the taxes here, because I'm trying to keep them out of this city! Same with dirty & manufacturing industry!

-Repetitious buildings. Custom buildings help, but 95% of the ones I've found are skyscrapers, which leaves less-dense areas of the region looking rather boring.

-Zoning oddities. When I zone near the edge of the map, I'll often get zones trying to connect to the city border rather than the street. There have also been cases where I've had to temporarily tear out streets to get zones to point to the street I wanted them to connect to, since all the ctrls, alts, and shifts in the world wouldn't make them cooperate.

-Landfill garbage not disappearing properly at times(even with shipping off more than enough garbage to a neighbor/waste-to-energy plant). It seems to happen when there's rail touching the landfill zone, and it seems the only solution is temporarily shifting the rail lines away from the dump.

When the news banner area flashes with a bright red message about placing too much concrete and not enough trees.  I am one of the biggest park-builders you'd find, and it's not my fault I put down too many roads opposed to streets since the streets get unused.  Sims are stupid in this game.

I have to say I find it hard to hate anything in a game which is keeping my attention so long after it was released. It's flawed, but so are most games. The fact that game is so easy to mod and create plugins for (NAM!) makes it hard to gripe at. Only complaint? The amount my wife gives me hell for playing it so much!

1. Unsuitable Grade for Construction

2. Sims rarely use mass transit.

3. Diagonal Bridges/Tunnels.

4. Lack of region terrain editor.

Number 1 more than the others. Makes all my bridges be in weird places.

Its really awkward when trying to place water lots, they never go where you first wanted em... CTD after you've done tons of work... Environment advisor in general, And maxis completely ignoring the simcity franchise... still a great game though eh?

Definitely agree with you on all of these. Water lots, praticularly those that are half on/half off water, like ferrys and wharves. Haven't really had trouble with the enviroment advisor yet, but the few times she's popped up have been really annoying. Despite that, really, really good game overall.
