    Update 42 - Henne Park - North 32nd Street (Purple Line 6)

The southwest area of Henne Park is more urban and dense around North 32nd Street. Traveling above the street is the elevated rail line WTAM Purple Line 6.

I'm a little disappointed with my update here. I need to really label more buildings especially police and fire houses, but I really didn't plan ahead on that. As always, finding new things to make the journal better and more realistic. Hope you enjoyed the more urban area. No plan for next week's update. Once again, any suggestions for a place to see, comment and request. Check out the District of Wenzel Street Map to get an idea where we are.

That portion of Henne Park just screams "New York City" to me... all the mass transit and old brick buildings look like something straight out of the Bronx or Harlem.

Where do you get above-road El rail stations? And on that note I have to say - your city is impressive!

Can you name a few of BATers that contributed to your city's look? It could help me a bit, since I'm building a new region and wish to build american-style cities.

Update 43 - Wellington Park Neighborhood

Wellington Park Neighborhood is on the south side of Brittany River currently encompassing the area between South Ogden Avenue (N20), West Baltimore Avenue (D10), South 72nd Street (D31), and West Lucas Road. The area is serviced by two WTAM lines - Green Line 4 and Purple Line 6.

Nice update... I like how D31/72nd St has the El line running through the median, nice touch. I also like the placement of the Ukrops and parking lot, making the most of space in a dense area like how grocery stores in real life dense areas appear.

Hey man NICE WORK!!!... My real name is Marshall so I REALLY like all the Marshall St Road and Ave :D Are there any plans to put a limited access bypass around the city with a trunk line into downtown? If that is the case could it be named the Marshall Expressway? :D

Keep it up... I can't wait to get my new PC built next weekend then I can enjoy SC4 again.

As always, love the region shot. I like how the el-rail line runs between the avenue but I especially like that 3rd last picture. The layout of all the retail is very realistic.

    As always, fantastic job! :)

I just took another look at the region map... it is awesome, comprehensive, unlike anything I've seen on Simtropolis. Have you thought about putting in some freeways as your city has gotten quite expansive. Though, I guess you've ameliorated the situation with a lot of public transit.

Thanks for the compliment! Yes, I will be putting in freeways at some point. I really want to have my city core fill out around Hohler, Hawthorne, and the Penelope River. Around that time I will start adding freeways. I look at Milwaukee and Chicago for inspiration and both those cities were much larger than mine before freeways were introduced in the 1950s, so I'm trying to emulate that and all the planning and tough decisions about layout around existing roads and structures.

Benedict: Great new update... but it is nothing compared to the work you've put into your street map - that is just fantastic.

Thank you. Every journal needs a hook I suppose and my map is really my baby!

Sim_link: As always, love the region shot. I like how the el-rail line runs between the avenue but I especially like that 3rd last picture. The layout of all the retail is very realistic.

Thanks. Yeah, I sometimes feel my realism isn't up to snuff, but I'm glad you think it is!

We'll see about what I will name future freeways. I haven't decided if I will give them official names. I live in Milwaukee and we refer to our freeways by the actually highway designation. I-94, I-43, US-45, I-894...as opposed to names I've seen on some maps like the North-South Freeway, the Zoo Freeway, etc. or like in Chicago with the Dan Ryan or the Eisenhower. As I said, we will see, haha.

Dfnva: Nice update... I like how D31/72nd St has the El line running through the median, nice touch. I also like the placement of the Ukrops and parking lot, making the most of space in a dense area like how grocery stores in real life dense areas appear.

Thanks, I wanted the el-rail in the median as opposed to running through an adjacent block or directly over a small two-lane road, and I wanted 72nd Street (D31) to have a big arterial road feel. Yeah, always need groceries in the urban areas!

Bluemoose: Looks very nice, as always!

    Thank you very much.

Nathanthemayor: I like how you put the el-rail line in the middle of the avenue like that....

Thanks, I really like how that area going over the rail turned out. All thanks to SimFox's bushes, right?

Grstudios: Where do you get above-road El rail stations? And on that note I have to say - your city is impressive!

For great midwestern style buildings check out NoFunk and the entire Barry Sanders Project team. You can search the STEX for a number of different over-the-road el stations. I have some from Chicago and I have the ones you've seen in some pictures in the last update. Those are Swamper77's NAM Elevated Rail Station 1.

Houston_Fan: That portion of Henne Park just screams "New York City" to me... all the mass transit and old brick buildings look like something straight out of the Bronx or Harlem.

Yup, lots of New York style buildings in there.

    Emperordaniel: Pretty neat

    Thanks

Dfnva: Nice update, I like the character of the buildings in Henne Park.

Yeah, endless single-family homes get a little dull after a while, right?

    Thanks for all your comments!

Great looking region map and that street map you have created is very impressive. I think the railway lines would look a bit better with fractional curves though.

Thank you for replying me. I searched the STEX for those el-rail stations yet didn't find any - You helped a lot. BTW, forgot to compliment you! Your CJ is my role-model and I'm intending to build my region in your style, e.g. evolving city outwards...

The map is awesome too, as a person whose been attracted to maps since age 3 - your map is adding to your CJ as 100 nice pictures! Keep on the good work, I'm looking forward to more posts...

P.s. Have I seen on the last CJ any street-side parking spaces? That's nice.

Been quite a long time since I last stopped by the forums, and it's good to see Wenzel is still progressing. The region view is really astonishing, and you pay close attention to detail in the close-ups. Frankly, I don't know how you do it! Looks like something from the Great Lakes/ Rust Belt. Keep up the good work, man!

Oh, and that was a close game the other week, Packers vs. Bucs! I bet it scared you a lil bit when they got close, don't lie!

Update 44 - Wellington and Windemere Parks

As promised here is Wellington Park and most of the area between South 64th Street, West Baltimore Avenue, and South 56th Street. South Ogden Avenue cuts a southwest-northeast path through the area paralleled by Green Line 4 of the WTAM. This area is filled with parks and trees, a very pleasant pocket of Martin.

Nice park and I like how you transition ploppable water to real water (thought I guess they're both fake water in the end, haha). Too bad the NAM doesn't have 3 lane OWR bridges for S. 56th St. In fact, that's one of the reasons why I've hesitated using RHW in downtown areas, because of the necessity to make 2-lane bridges.

    1. I love your style, man! The way you 'create' diffrent angles for blocks, break the grid (without any FARs it might be tenacious to do) and still look good... It really looks from above as a real city would look - take for example chicago, mostly grid, yet from time to time it has a road that breaks the grid. I guess it is a relic to village-connecting roads, which didn't follow the wills of 1900' planner.

    2. The trees are beautiful - looks quite real, aren't they from ALN pasture flora? If no, could you tell where they're from? Another question is how do you fill green grass around PEGs streams so perfectly? The details on those streams are remarkable.

Again, thanks for everything - I follow your CJ and everytime discover better things!

Yes, I do like the fractional angle roads and rail, unfortunately, especially for roads they are not always practical, and I tend to use many different angles for my roads and rail, thus the step system.

Grstudios: Thank you for replying me. I searched the STEX for those el-rail stations yet didn't find any - You helped a lot. BTW, forgot to compliment you! Your CJ is my role-model and I'm intending to build my region in your style, e.g. evolving city outwards...

P.s. Have I seen on the last CJ any street-side parking spaces? That's nice.

Thanks, the best way to make a city is definitely have a plan for you downtown (I really didn't do that, oops) and then build out naturally and you fill your region with farms and small hamlets and roads that will break up a grid in the future. Yeah, I've been draw maps and building cities since I was 3 too!

Raysfan16: Been quite a long time since I last stopped by the forums, and it's good to see Wenzel is still progressing. Yes, the last few games for the Packers are really nerve-wracking at times. Thanks, I refer a lot to Milwaukee and Chicago city views, and use a lot of NoFunk and Jasconcw's stuff.

    Scott1964: Nice Job...I give it 5 and 7

    Thanks for stopping by.

Sim_link: It is indeed a pleasant area - I really like the trees between the houses, rail and industrial buildings. It looks very realistic. The photo-editing on the church picture is fantastic, as well. Keep up the awesome work!

Thank you. Different areas, hopefully different realistic feels.

Dannibee: I love the way the el-rail snakes across, from region view it looks like it's at another angle, I love the realism and character you put into your city's

Yup, I love to put in some different angles.

Yup ploppable stream set to real water. I really try to hide the seams with trees and flora. Yeah I really wish we could have different lane number bridges, not yet I guess, haha.

    1. The different angles are definitely for realism!

    2. The trees are SimFox's or VIP's, they have a lot of good stuff. Some of the flora is also ALN's pasture.

Schulmanator: Good looking stuff... I like it!

    Thanks.

Thanks all you guys. I guess I will start working on the next update. I really can't seem to find much motivation or time to really build anything in my region though. I'm glad I have a lot of stuff to show still, though.

Update 45 - Kelvyn Park Neighborhood

We continue our travel views of the city east between Baltimore Avenue and Lucas Road. First we start with Kelvyn Park which is bound by South 48th Street, West Le Moyne Street, South 45th Street, and West Chestnut Avenue.

The region view is updated. I've completed some more of South Martin. I need to get in the habit of preparing areas (even if not fully developed) to be used for updates. I'm doing my best, but it seems I have no time, ha. I want to try to finish of most of South Martin down to the Penelope River and prepare Bayview for update, too. Then I want to expand the city along the Brittany River significantly. Once the city spreads significantly, freeways will be introduced (I really can't wait, haha). Check out the District of Wenzel Street Map to get an idea where we are.
