Actually, there are bus stops.

wiecher: that is a brilliant airport setup. Just one or two pints. In the first picture towards the top, there isn't a taxiway to connect the terminal to the end of the runways. A large airport like that needs one. Also, one or two of the gates are too close to each other, making it a nightmare to get large planes in/out of the gates.  Finally, there is no way the 737's can get into the gates on the diagonal section of the terminal in the third picture.  Address these, and that would be an exceptional airport.

The runways you see 'sticking out' in the first picture are landing-only. Planes land from one direction so there is no need for taxiways there. And even if they land from the other side, or want to lift off from this side, they can use the runway as taxiway, and then turn around at the end...

But yes, I can see it's quite difficult for some planes to get in or out, but it is possible. I drew some lines from the tip of the wings to see what the path of the plane was, and in theory it is possible to get  in or out without damage. But I will change it,  realism IS important.

And if you mean the red-encircled diagonal section. There are no gate markings, jet bridges or other things to see there... There is no gate and so no 737 has to get in there.

If you meant other places, please tell me...

Here's my first pic of my airport, I'm open for any critique you might have, so don't worry!

Everything looks pretty good.

One tweak I would do:

The space for the planes to pull into the gate shouldn't be so big.  I suggest moving the service road close to the gates, and leaving the open space near the taxiway.  (in this case the taxiway is actually an apron, technically speaking.  Long story, see my discussion earlier in the thread.)

wiecher: I meant the gates on the other side of that building (where the Easyjet plane is). It would be very difficult for planes to get a pushback there. If you turned the gates 90 degrees anti-clockwise, then it would make the system easier.

The runways you see 'sticking out' in the first picture are landing-only. Planes land from one direction so there is no need for taxiways there.quote>

That is fair enough.  In real life, runways close to each other will alternate landing/takeoff operations.  So for that top picture, the top runway would function for landings, the next one for takeoffs, then the next runwy for landings and the bottom runway for takeoffs.

And even if they land from the other side, or want to lift off from this side, they can use the runway as taxiway, and then turn around at the end...quote>

This is also fair, but there is no space for a large aircraft to turn around.  If youdidn'tmake taxiways, then the runways would need turning circles.  See HERE for an example.

I fly FSX (Microsoft Flight Simulater x) regularly and I must say these airports are beautiful. I just would like to know why there is limited functionality to these custom made airports? I would think there would be a way to use the default airports as a base to a custom made one but I know nothing about the technical process of making an airport. The most important thing that helps me decide to download something for this game is functionality (especially if it takes up a lot of city space) unless it's a park or landmark. I am very temped to download these airport packs but I am disappointed that these more realistic airports does not function as airports are meant to do for the cities. Is there a sneaky way to incorporate a default airport into one of these?

Well, there are downloads called airport trams and things like these which act as airports b ut look like a normal building in your city. I would love to give you a link but I don't have one... Sorry about that. Can anyone else post the link? 42.gif

Well I now know I been missing a lot in the SC4 community! After I posted my above question here, I go over to SC4DEV and discover this project: sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php

It's custom functional airports. Please don't laugh at me for being so late. Would like to see more ingame pics though.

The airport that I have pictures of is still under construction. You might see some roads, those are meant to keep track of stuff to maintain consistency.

I plan on having this: Main terminals-triple runways-secondary terminals-triple runways-cargo terminals

Two triple runways. They are designed to be used by two small aircraft at the same time or a single 747.

Sorry for the *very* late reply! Nice airport so far, Loney! Does it overlap into the side-by-side city tiles? Good start!

Now, I know perfectly well that my airport here is not from the custom airport pack .However, I made this in the LE, and I am very proud of it. So, welcome to Capital District International Airport!

capitaldistrictairportn.jpg

Terminal A(Right-most):

Air Tron

UC Airways

UC Business Jet

Terminal B:

UC Airways(International flights)

Terminal C:

Northeast Airlines

The airport contains shops, restraunts, two lounges, a commuter rail station, and a sauna bathhouse. The main way into the airport is via Highway 9(Aka:Airport Pky), and if you need a long-term parking, you need to exit onto exit 6, then go into the parking area, as well as the cargo center. The other parking area(Garages) are all short-term as well as one long term area which is just for Terminal A. Anyone wanting to fly out of this airport must print out their boarding passes online and bring them to the check-in 2 hours in advance of their flight. Guns(Unloaded) are allowed on checked baggage, but you are charged a fee dependeing on the model, and you need to sign a form saying you are not using it for unlawful purposes. There are buses that run between the terminals, to the parking lots, commuter rail station, and the rental car center.

Here is the map of it, united airlines style:

Oh! Nice teaser shot! I'd hate to live in those houses though!41.gif

Did you photoshop it to get the plane in the air, or is that actually in game?

Can't wait to see the rest!

San Angelo International Airport (PWSA / SAI)

Located on the isle of Silverstone, 350 miles south of Bermuda, San Angelo International Airport is the main (and indeed only) airport serving the two settlements of San Angelo and Hobart. It's unique position between Europe and the USA make it a hotbed for smaller jet activity, with 737/ A320 series aircraft frequently making hops to and from the airport.

Due to the lack of space on Silverstone, the airport is boxed in by surrounding residential and commercial areas, making expansion of the airport near impossible. A single runway configuration with an east/west runway is all the airport can manage. Be that as it may, San Angelo is a relatively busy airport, handling up to 80 flights per day to European/ American destinations. Most jets are from charter airlines, however most US legacy carriers have at least one daily flight to hubs on the mainland USA. American Eagle operates an ATR flight daily between San Angelo and Bermuda, and bizjets are frequent visitors to the airport.

pic1ci.jpg

A Gatwick-bound Monarch A300 taxies along Alpha towards runway 27, as a company A300 waits at the stand, for turnaround to Manchester.

pic2ev.jpg

One of Continental's 737's waits for clearance at runway 27. Space is such a commodity that the airport's main taxiway crosses the runway due to a residential block impeding the taxiway's path.

pic3p.jpg

Runway 9 is less landlocked, and has been earmarked as a possible site for expansion to increase the amount of stands at the airport.

pic4u.jpg

The main terminal is fairly modern, and beside it sits Southwest, BMI, Frontier and JetBlue craft.

pic5m.jpg

American Eagle's ATR-42 bound for Bermuda overlooks the huge car park, whilst a United 737 pulls into an adjacent stand.

pic6ca.jpg

The airport has spawned nearby commercial and industrial developments - this industrial park being one such area, housing hi tech and manufacturing plants.

@ citiesxlfan42: I did it in Lot Editor - took a normal piece of grass from the airport lots, put the plane on it and raised it in LE, so its in the air in the game

@ Blakeway: Wouldn't trust that ATC of yours!

Those are some cool airports! Mine is still "under construction". I like that bridge (next to the Sphinx letters).
