Industry zones with arrows?

I was watching a vid on youtube about building a city when he started zoneing his industry into parcels. It made for a really clean effect, and I'd love to do that in my city as well. Is there a way to do this in game, or is it a mod that needs to be downloaded?

Video that shows what I'm wanting:

Thanks in advance!

Yes. it is possible with the regular zone direction keys. It works a bit differently, though. You need to zone as usual but don't release the mouse button. You can use the keys to control the zones while the button is held down, but you won't see the arrows until you release the button. There is a bit of trial and error to it until you've practiced a little. Here's a post to explain it a little more.

If what you mean by "parcels" is the small boxed areas that show arrows, then you need to hold down the CTRL key while zoning industrial.

A building will then grow to be the exact size of the "box" that you zoned. You will need to make each one individually.

Wonderd about but found the answer, there´s no real difference between ordinaire residential, commercial or industrial zoining excep¨t the arrow are shown wth the first two. Industrial as above mentioned don´t but as holding the ctrl key as ussual with the other zoning will add arrows to industrial and agricultural zones. So allmost nothing different except they wil only show afther releasing with the ctrl key pushed in.Dedicated zoning brings a obvious issue on the table ; will the zone be build '? This might be a reseaurch of the standard growable size of the build in lots. Small plots might only have a fule tank or warehouse, larger 3x4 or 4x6 might be enoug for a factory. There several versions with more or less large industrial plots. Ussualy I make blocks of 4x6 good for a factory. What sizes are most common for industrial lots ?

sincerely yours,

Just to add, holding down CTRL whilst zoning for all types, locks in the slope of a network. I.e. it will prevent whatever grows from terraforming the network(s) they are zoned against.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Thanks, that fact I didn´t know. Avoiding unwanted dirty industries develope, with designated zoning might be interesting to explore. Orientation wise you get better control over what in wich way migjht develope, so more control there. On the otherside  some things like industrial stages might be blocked because of designated zones be there ?

Industry zoning experiment with arrows !

Today I experimented with this feature on a small industrial zone to see what happems !

g82p9J7.jpg

Intial lots afther starting the simulation !

ZQw2u5c.jpg

Lots are nicely restricted to their zoned plots ! These dome like are some PEG lots wich I didn´t expect as their supposed to be rural vertical farms !

SBVQhGz.jpg

As I didn´t like them I removed them and found out that with this the dedicated restricted zoning is abolished !

GDNCWx4.jpg

Developing the area on going, established industry avoids most furthur development of these PEG lots !

We see how zoning with arrows influence industrial development in a more controlled way as to ordinairy zoning with some twist !

Sincerely yours,

Kschmidt
